FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF THE SITE - ÅRNA A two day “field recognition” trip, through the mountains and along the river, where the paths deserved my main attention. First impression of terrain and of the site.

How does Årna’s landscape look like, what we can get from the abstraction and visual connection with the real representation of the terrain, in a tottaly new experience, from being there. Plan, isometric and section studies. By changing the orientation of the view, we change our perception.

TOPOGRAPHY

topography as visual structure The purpouse of this work was to analyse the Årna’s terrain. What are their components, but also plants and animals. The fisrt model was a macro approach of the area, assuming the bigger area as a base, and overlapping Hodarland. The second model was an extrusion of all layers on height, to show them seperately. As a group work, was very interesting how the gone with this model idea until the end. It’s even more for me, assuming it as a continuation of the previous topography studies.

WHAT THE NATURE GIVES TO THE PEOPLE. HOW DO THE PEOPLE EXPLORE IT. THIS WAY THERE IS A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE NATURAL RESOURCES AND THE LANDSCAPE.

USING ALL POSIBLE NATURAL RESOURCES, OUR DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY IS ABOUT HOW THE HUMAN CAN USE THESE ELEMENTS AS MEANS TO EXPAND AND DENSIFY A ZONE. THIS PHASE IS ABOUT IDENTIFIYNG ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF CLUSTERS, THAT WERE BUILT AND WERE USED TO EXPLORE THESE NATURAL RESOURCES.

natural resources + clusters I started analysing the map of Ă…rna , in order to allow myself to know the site. I “scannedâ€? the main forms of all the buildings and realised that there are at least 3 different types of clusters: “fish housesâ€?, “water factoriesâ€? , “farmsâ€?. I also noticed that the water (from the fjord) is the natural resource that there is more abudantly, and that nobody or nothing is taking advantage of it. Thus I choosed the “water factoriesâ€? cluster to analyse.

NEW PROGRAMS IN OLD BUILDINGS/NEW CITY CENTER

PATHWAY

In the workshop given by S333, I was working on the fjordscape group. This was based on the development of mini-flash projects. The connections that could be made between the shores, the use of the water, new connections over the air (with cable cars), and a new pathway all over the water line. This pathway is the connection between all the group work, and the area I’m working on, is like a checkpoint on “the route”.

// Reuse existing buildings. // Workspaces, Housing, Culture, 24 hour use of the building. // Harbour: use the water as transport. //Move the actual center zone //Use all unused spaces, voids.

// Connect Arna’s and Ytre Arnas’s facilities. // Along the sea, connection with the water. // Shelter from wind and rain-enjoy the sun. // Points of interest along the pathway.

On the bottom, is the final result of the sustainability delivery (work group). This time was about having a sustaibale approach onto the project we were developing. I’m still connected to the idea of the path connection.

RAILROAD NOT WORKING

FACTORIES NOT CONNECTED TO THE WATER

The plan shows the intervention area, and makes reference for what is wrong and right. For wrong we have the non working railroad, and the factories that are no longer making their “job” - not connected to the water, like in the beginning. For right we only have the natural potentials of the site - solar exposition closeness no water and the bathing area that is enjoyed every summer by locals.

The picture above show what is the actual situation of the area. There are a lot of different firms established. Some of the needs of today’s Årna, are planned to move there, such as a new supermarket, or the new doctor offices. Some of the uses are not connected to anything, neither to the water, that should be used as a fuitful resource.

What to do next?

• DISCOVER WHAT IS HAPPENING ON THE SITE, NOW. • ANALYSE SPECIFIC PARTS OF THE TERRITORY. • TRY TO GIVE BACK IDENTITY TO THE SITE. • ANALYSE CORRIDORS THAT CAN CONNECT THE FJORD WITH THE TOP OF STEEP MOUNTAINS, GOING THROUGH HOUSES, PUBLIC SPACES, INFRASTRUCTURES... • WHICH IS THE BETTER WAY TO DENSIFY?
