MAMMA MIA!
It was a Saturday, that we took initiative to show our cooking skills to the school. It was another kind of challenge where big pans, firewood and smoke in the eyes were the biggest rivals of our creation – spaghetti with soya pieces, tomatoes, garlic, onions, mango slices and spice sauce, every single ingredient mixed with passion.
Firstly we went to Mzimba boma, in English Mzimba town, to select fresh products. This was easy. We already knew all the corners of the market like the back of our hand.
Secondly, we prepared the firewood together with some students. We felt a little bit nervous because they were staring at us wondering what kind of meal we were cooking. Pasta with Mango? It didn’t sound nice. In fact, we didn’t know if it was going to work or not, but anyway we took the risk, since we bought a lot of tomato sauce if the things were wrong. It could masquerade the taste.
In the end, the mission was successfully accomplished, at least nothing was found in the pan when we came back to the kitchen.
It was almost all the afternoon cooking so we had a sample of what is like to cook for so much people in the college and it was less than half of the number of students that is used to be. Part of them had gone home to spend the Christmas holidays.
So, when they are in the rout, is really all day cooking. It’s a hard task for them but if you embrace it in a positive way, it’s an experience.
