(A movie meets a novel ①) Movie ‘The classic’ & Novel ‘Sonagi (Shower)’
This special class is for intermediate level Korean learners to better understand Korean culture, society and language through Korean literature and film. Participants will be watching a movie called the Classic and reading a book ‘Sonagi’ or Rain Shower in Korean.
The Classic is a romance movie directed by Kwak Jae-yong who is a director of the famous ‘My Sassy Girl’, while Sonagi is a short story written by Hwang Sun-won, one of the wellknown writers in Korea. Both the film and the book deal with the same theme: love story between a boy and a girl. It will be an interesting way of studying more about different portrayals of Korean culture and society through novels and films.

Godeungeo Jorim(braised mackerel)& Jjuggumi Minari Muchim (spicy webfoot octopus with water parsley)
Godeungeo Jorim(Braised mackerel) Mackerel is effective in prevention of hardening of the arteries and stroke. Godeungeo Jorim is made of mackerel with vegetable as radish which is known to be the well-suited food with mackerel in a mixed sauce.
Jjuggumi minari muchim (Webfoot octopus and water parsley seasoned with spicy sauce) Koreans usually eat this dish in spring to have appetite and energy back and beat the winter blues. Minari (water parsley) is rich in vitamins and good for blood purificatioin for detoxication. Natural lip balm and solid perfume making class
The Yeoksam Global Village Center is hosting a lip balm and solid perfume making class this month. Participants will make lip balm and perfume with some natural ingredients without using any chemical preservatives. This class will provide you with a great opportunity to learn how to make your own lip balm that will keep your lips moisturized and perfume that will make you smell even more amazing. Volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital
Volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital (강남 성모 병원) with the Yeoksam Global Village Center! On Saturday, April 20 from 10:00 to12:00, our volunteer group will visit St. Mary’s Hospital in Gangnam to help with the preparation of medical kits, cleaning hospital facilities and spending time with young patients. Those of you who have interest in music, magic, arts or other recreational activities to share with children are welcome to join us!! (No prior experience required.) Walking Tour of Seoul in April
Feel the history of the Three Kingdom Period On the tour to Mongchon Toseong
Located in the heart of the city, Seoul Olympic Park was built in 1988 to hold international sporting events. It now serves as a public park offering the citizens a wide range of cultural and leisure opportunities at its outdoor sculpture park, art museum, water fountains and walking trails. It is also home to historically valuable artifacts that dated back to the Baekje Dynasty, one of the ancient Three Kingdoms in Korea. The ramparts unearthed in the area are officially named the Mongchon Toseong (Mongchon Earthen Fortress) and they are designated as Historic Site No. 11. A walking tour is available at the site of historic value where visitors can learn about the history of the Three Kingdoms including Baekje through valuable artifacts along the fortress while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the eco-friendly park. Cosmetic Box (Gyeongdae) Making Class
The Yeoksam Global Village Center is going to have a gyeongdae making class. As a small piece of traditional furniture, gyeongdae is a rectangular cosmetics box with a mirror and a drawer. Traditionally it was made of wood, but participants will be using hanji, Korean traditional paper for the main material in the class. Through this event, participants will be able to experience the spirit of Korean culture and the traditional makeup box will make a great gift or a souvenir for your friends or family back home. Come and learn about Korean culture in a fun way!
