Dear Family, Friends, Partners and Members, Welcome! We are so honored that you chose to be part of the Colorado Black Health Collaborative’s (CBHC) First Fundraising Gala! On behalf of CBHC’s Board of Directors, I thank each of you for your extraordinary support to make our First Fundraising Gala a great success. I am especially grateful to the Sponsors, Planning Committee members and patrons who contributed to make this event possible. I have met so many soldiers in the cause for achieving health equity, and it has been a pleasure to work with people and organizations that believe in and support our mission. What a great way to celebrate and help further CBHC’s work in the community. CBHC’s mission is “To Achieve Health Equity in Colorado Black Community.” It truly takes all people to bring their passions and ideas to the table. CBHC could not do this important work alone. No matter your race, creed or color, CBHC seeks to bring all hands-on deck to help organically shape the course of our Community outreach. Collaboration and partnership are the keys to making it happen. The theme of the First Fundraising Gala is “Laughter is Good for Your Health.” Scientific studies have shown that laughter is good for your health – to relax the body, boost the immune system and trigger the release of endorphins in the body, to name a few benefits. CBHC believes this night of laughter will facilitate the important message of healing and self-care. We thank Ms. Jenifer Lewis for coming to share her impactful story with humor and love about her journey to mental wellness and providing hope to others. She is indeed a star and testament to mental wellness. CBHC has a wonderful 10-year legacy! I recall when CBHC was born – it started as a Planning Committee preparing a community mobilization effort to inform the Community about health disparities. It was the start of a tremendous journey, thus far, forged in collaborations, partnerships and volunteerism. We have come this far by faith. As we look forward to the future, we should recognize the importance of community engagement. CBHC will continue to be an empowering force helping to debunk the stigma associated with Mental Health in the Black community. We want to bring attention to Mental Wellness. We will continue the work of community outreach and engagement, shedding light on all health disparities impacting our community, as well as pursuing health equity. If you haven’t already, please JOIN CBHC as a partner, donor, member and/or volunteer and become part of the ongoing legacy To Achieve Health Equity in Colorado’s Black Community. We hope that you enjoy this evening! Thelma Craig Chairman of the Board of Directors.

As our history demonstrates, Colorado Black Health Collaborative is organically grown by the people, for the people. We are a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to achieving health equity in Colorado’s Black Community. We are proud of the work that we do. We are progressive, professional, purposeful, have plenty of volunteers, and are passionate with a capital P. CBHC is encapsulated by the six C’s- collaboration, cultural proficiency, community engagement and involvement, community education, community empowerment, and covering all lifecycles – prenatal, seniors, all areas of health and social determinants of health. To accomplish our goals, CBHC has a number of programs and partnerships. Some of our flagship programs are our health forums, shop program, mentorship and directories. We have hosted forums quarterly since inception. A broad range of topics including physical, mental and spiritual health, as well as the social determinants of health are covered at the forums. The third forum of the year is usually still educational but with a heavy dose of fun and physical activity. In 2012, we started a Barbershop/Salon Health Outreach program. At that time, we started with one shop and now perform screenings and education in the shops nearly every Saturday. With this program we are truly meeting people where they are. We mentor students and offer internship opportunities for college, public health, and premedical students. One of our students that volunteered with the program while in college went on to start a barbershop program when she went to Miami. We have created 3 hardcover resource directories as requested by the community. These directories feature relevant health articles and resources to all sorts of health professionals. We also have an online F.L.O.W directory that we started as part of a Centers for Disease Control project. This online guide highlights many community resources that provide health and wellness focused on our community. We also utilize our website to feature educational articles and personal testimonials- neighborhood stories. Our Quarterly Forums are educational, informative, interactive, and community members leave with an action plan. These are just a few of the things that we do. Go to our website, www.coloradoblackhealth.org to learn more or send us an email to arrange a meeting. If you are interested in becoming a partner or volunteering with CBHC you can sign up on our website.
