CODE OF ETHICS
As a member of the Fiji Police Force I have a duty to:

Rights of arrested and detained persons
13. (2) Whenever this section requires information to be given to a person, that information must be given simple and clearly in a language that the person understands. (c) to communicate with a legal practitioner of his or her choice in private in the place where he or she is detained, to be informed of that right promptly and, if he or she does not have sufficient means to engage a legal practitioner and the interests of justice so require, to be given the services of a legal practitioner under a scheme or legal aid by the Legal Aid Commission; (k) to communicate with, and be visited by, - (i) his or her spouse, partner or next-of-kin; and (ii) a religious counsellor or a social worker (1) Every person who is arrested or detained has the right – (a) to be informed promptly, in a language that he or she understands, of – (i) the reason for the arrest or detention and the nature of any charge that may be brought against that person;(ii) the right to remain silent; and
(iii) the consequences of not remaining silent;
(b) to remain silent;

(f) to be brought before a court as soon as reasonably possible, but in any case not later than 48 hours after the time of arrest, or if that is not reasonably possible, as soon as possible thereafter;
(d) no to compelled to make any confession or admission that could be used in evidence against that person;
(e) to be held separately from persons who are serving sentence, and in the case of child, to be kept separate from adults unless that is not the best interests of the child;
(g) at the first court appearance, to be charged or informed of the reasons for the detention to continue, or to be released;
(h) to be released on reasonable terms and conditions, pending a charge or trial, unless the interests of justice otherwise require;
(i) to challenge the lawfulness of the detention in person before a court and, if the detention is unlawful, to be released;
(j) to conditions of detention that are consistence with human dignity, including at least the opportunity to exercise regularly and the provision, at State expense, of adequate accommodation, nutrition, and medical treatment; and
(3) A person who is deprived of liberty by being detained, held in custody or imprisoned under any law retains all the rights and freedoms set out in the Chapter, except to the extent that any particular rights or freedom is incompatible with the fact of being so deprived of liberty.
Giraftaar Vyektion ke Adhikaar
13. (2) Is section ki jaankaari giraftaar vyaktion ko saralta and spashtata se us bhasha me deni chahiye jis bhasha ko woh vyekti samajhta ho.
(c) Giraftaar vyekti ko yeh bhi batana hoga ki woh apne vakeel/ kaanooni salahkaar ke saath ussi hiraasat mein sampark kar sakta hai. Agar woh vakeel nahi kar sakta hai toh woh Legal Aid Commission ki sahayeta le sakta hai.
(k) Har ek giraftaar vyekti in logon se sampark kar sakta hai.
i) unka/unki pati/patni, saathi ya rishtedaar aur
ii) ek samaajik/dhaarmik karyekarta/salahkaar
(l) Har ek giraftaar vyekti ke paas ye adhikaar hai ki
(a) usse us bhasha me turant samjhaaya jaaye taaki woh samajh sake ki
i) usse kyon giraftaar kiya gaya hai aur uss par kya aarop lagaya ja sakta hai.
ii) usske pass maun rahne ka bhi adhikaar hai aur
iii) usske maun na rahne kaa parinaam kya ho sakta hai.
(b) woh maun rahe [IS SE JYAADA KUCH NA SAMJHAYEN]

(f) Har ek giraftaar vyekti ko kam se kam samay mein 48 ghanton ke darmiyaan adaalat mein pesh kiya jaaye. Agar kissi bhi halaat mein aiysa na ho sake to jitna jaldi sammbhav ho sake usse adaalat mein pesh kar dena chahiye.
(d) Giraftaar vyekti ko baadhye na kiya jaaye ki woh kissi bhi baat/bayaan ko sweekaar kare jo uss ke khilaaf adaalat mein laaya jaa sake.
(e) Giraftaar vyekti ko unn logon se alag rakhna chaahiye jinhen saza mil chuki ho. Bachon ko un logon se alag rakhen jo unhe thes pahuncha sakten hain.
(g) Adaalat ki pehli sunwaayee mein usse giraftaari ke kaaron aur unn par lage aaronpon ki jaankaari dii jaaye. Usse yeh bhi bataya jaaye ki usse ab hiraasat mein rakhaa jaayega ya chor diya jaayega.
(h) usse uchit kaanoonon ke darmiyaan chor diya jaaye yaa phir charge lagaaya jaaye aur mukadmein ki taareek ka intezaar karen ya aur kuch usske saath kiya jaaye jo kanoon ke darmiyaan ho.
(i) Giraftaar vyekti apni giraftaari ka kaanooni chunauti kar sakta hai, aur agar usska giraftaari gairkaanooni ghoshit kar diya gaya ho toh usse chor diya jaaye.
(j) Giraftaar vyekti ko hawalaat mein usski manav adhikaar milni chahiye aur sarkaari kharch par paryaapt jagah, bhojan aur swasth salah/seva milni chahiye.
(3) Har vyekti jiss ki swatantrata usski giraftaari se ya kaid hone se har li gayee ho ke adhikaar aur swatantrata is chaptar se surakshit hain magar unn adhikaaron ko nahi jo unki gair swatantrata seh judi nahi ho.

(k) ra sikovi ka veitalanoa vata kei na—
(i) nona lewenivale, itokani se wekana voleka; kei na
(ii) daunivakasala vakalotu kei na dauveiqaravi ni bula raraba.
(1) Na tamata e vesu se vesu vakawawa, e tu vua na dodonu me—
(a) tukuni ena kena gauna totolo duadua, ena vosa e kila—
(i) na vu ni nona vesu se vesu vakawawa kei na matailalai ni itotogi ena tau vua;
(ii) na nona dodonu oya me kua ni vakamacala se sauma e dua na taro; kei na
(iii) veika ena yaco ke vakamacala se sauma e dua na taro;
