Behind every creative, successful guerilla media program stands at least one gutsy, energetic individual who makes it happen.
WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE. CALIFORNIA is and always will be a launch pad for the creative concept, trends, and news that spreads throughout the world’s biker communities, and California Motorcycle Magazine has evolved from its regional roots by translating that belief into a now magazine. THINK PROGRESS. Believe in progress, push for progress, we think improvement in everything we do and think high standards in everything as well - START THINKING BIG. THINK SUCCESS. A goal isn’t a just an objective - a purpose. A goal is more than a dream, it’s a dream being ACTED upon. A goal is more than a hazy; “oh, I wish I could”. A goal is a clearly stated, “this is what I’m working toward - Nothing happens & no forward steps are taken until a goal is established. Without goals we just wander through life, never knowing who we are or where were going, as a result we never go anywhere. Goals are as essential to success, as air is to life - No one ever lives with out air and no one achieves a success without a goal.
We take pride in our efforts to excite, create impact and interest our readers with the latest news and biker lifestyle of today and tomorrow. We seek to create a community of people who cherish their individuality, spontaneity, and spirit. THINK CALIFORNIA MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE,

When it was first invented, the sole purpose of the spoked wheel was to make vehicles lighter and swifter, thus making it easier to transport objects and/or people from one place to another. While it’s impossible to re-invent the wheel, innovation and advances in technology have enabled the creation of spoked wheels that are not only much stronger and more reliable, but aesthetically pleasing as well.
If there’s one thing HarleyDavidson enthusiasts can agree on, it’s that spoked wheels look good on just about any bike. One person who definitely likes the look of spoked wheels is Sam Wakim, the owner of Ride Wright Wheels in Anaheim, CA. Sam has been in the wheel business for more than 10 years, and while he likes the gleam of a traditional spoked, chromed wheel just as much as the next guy, in his world of wheels, Sam wonders, “Why limit yourself to just one color or style when there’s a whole rainbow of colors and several styles to choose from?”

EXCLUSIVEPRODUCTS RIDE WRIGHT’S selection varies from the standard cross-laced 40-, 60-, 80-, and 120-spoke wheels with 3/16-inch-diameter solid stainless-steel spokes in traditional round, twisted, or diamond-cut spokes. Rim sizes vary from 16 to 21 inches in diameter and come in various widths, all the way up to 14 inches for 360mm tires. When it comes to colors, the sky is the limit. Ride Wright offers its wheels in any powdercoat color combination you can think of, from red spokes, hub, and nipples to one white spoke with 59 black spokes, matched to a green hub and a rainbow of nipples. For all those who feel bigger is better, one of the hottest wheels Ride Wright offers is its 50-spoke Fat Daddy wheel. The wheels are highlighted by solid stainless-steel 3/8-inch spokes. Aside from the fat spokes, the way the wheels are laced gets a lot of attention as well. The spokes run straight out from the hub to the rim in a radiallace fashion, as opposed to the more traditional crosslace pattern in which the spoke exits the hub at an angle crossing over several other spokes.
RIDE WRIGHT WHEELS FOR MORE INFORMATON - VISIT
While cross-lacing makes for a very strong and dependable wheel, Sam’s Fat Daddy wheels were developed and dynotested to be just as tough and reliable. In fact, the wheels are so tough, they’ve stood up to the abuse of AHDRA drag racer Valerie Thompson hammering the throttle on her daily rider, a 107ci ‘00 Fat Boy with 18-inch Fat Daddys. These wheels caught our attention, and since Sam’s shop is right in our backyard, we popped over to see how they’re built. Copyright © 2009 Ride Wright Wheels. Martin grew up in sunny Southern California where motorcycle riding happens all year round. His humble
upbringing prevented him from being able to own his own car and bike riding became way of transportation. He started with GT and BMX bikes, racing and riding with friends every weekend until it was too dark to see the streets. His excitement for 2 wheeled performance followed him his entire life. As he grew older pedal bikes were just not fast enough for him and motorcycles became his passion. He loves how riding motorcycles reminds of his BMX days being able to spend all day riding with friends, enjoying the freedom

He entered it running and never looked back, his love for creating performance based exhausts carry him forward every day. He started Freedom 5 years ago, in a small building in south LA. After a year Freedom grew and found itself a new home in Gardena, in a 26,000sq. ft. building better equipped to handle the demand of the larger inventory. Freedom started in the Harley world and has successfully created performance lines for metric motorcycles. For the past five years Freedom has been working hard to set

Tom Lane Inventor of Cruise-Mate Inc.
INVENTOR’SPROFILE
: Why did you invent the product? TOM- Several years ago I drove a spike through my right hand which never fully healed causing my hand to cramp and go numb very easily. After searching the market for a functional, affordable, lever operated throttle lock that looked good on the bike without success, I went into my garage (I have a small machine shop there) and experimented with many different configurations of what I thought would fit the requirements I was looking for. It took approximately 20 failures and several switch housings before coming up with the current configuration of Cruise-Mate. After installing it on my own bike (Electra Glide Classic) several riding buddies saw it and wanted one for their bikes, so I made and installed several for free. Their feedback was so positive I decided to apply for patent (presently pending) and research marketing to the riding public.
: When did you invent Cruise-Mate? TOM- Invention
process started in spring of 2004, final product installed and operating in late winter 2005, applied for patent Aug 2005. NEXT PAGE >

When did you launch Cruise-Mate? TOM- Started
selling to the general public in November 2005
How did you start marketing Cruise-Mate? TOM- Selling on eBay and presenting to area shops on consignment.
How does Cruise-Mate work? TOM- Cruise-Mate
is a very simple lever operated throttle lock which was designed to replace the original equipment Harley-Davidson thumbwheel throttle lock. Demand has forced me to adapt Cruise-Mate to Victory, Big Dog, many Metric Cruisers and most recently Can-Am Spyder. Presently available in approximately 200 shops throughout North America. BUILDER PROFILE
BIKERMagazine.com
SATYA KRAUS Satya Kraus was born in Sao Paulo Brazil and raised on a mountain overlooking the redwoods north of San Francisco. His ability to build machinery came naturally but thinking out of the box came from his desire to improve performance. Satya’s passion for motorcycle building was born from a
unique mixture of deep seeded love for all things mechanical and a desire to ride. Since a young age, he’s had a deep passion for motorcycles and at age 10 Satya bought himself a dirt bike and spent more time on the bike than on his feet. Through riding Satya’s interest and respect of the machine grew. At twelve he rebuilt his first motor and subsequently motorcycles became an essential part of his life.
Today, drawing from prior careers as a graphic designer and a heavy equipment owner/operator Satya, age 32, uses his mechanical knowledge and his artistic skills to build motorcycles that are innovative in their design and engineering as well as bold and creative in their styling. Kraus Motor Co is a full fabrication and machine shop that can produce anything from a one-off part to a full one of a kind custom. Everything is done by hand and with the rider in mind. Satya combines aesthetics that catch your eye and performance that captures your spirit.

BUILDERPROFILE
COMPANY STORY: Satya was invited to be a contestant on Speed TV’s reality show “Build or Bust” hosted by Russell Mitchell of Exile Cycles. The basis of the show is for a beginner to try to build his own custom bike in 12 days! If the contestant succeeds in building and doing a burnout by the end of the 12 days, he gets the pinks. The show ran two seasons, but as it turns out only Satya and 3 others out of the 20 total contestants succeeded. He then entered the bike in the 2004 L.A calendar show and was awarded 3rd place. Satya immediately started a build in his own shop, the bike came to be known as the Thirty:Sixty and was completed in 2005. In the last 2 years this bike has been featured in The Horse magazine, Hot Bike magazine, and Freeway magazine, distributed throughout Europe. Thirty:Sixty placed 1st in the David Mann Show, 3rd at the California Rod and Custom Show and as time went on Thirty:Sixty became a landmark in the custom bike industry and an inspiration to many builders. Russell Mitchell of Exile cycles asked Satya
to be a part of TV show Motorcycle Mania 4 for the Discovery Channel. The TV show took place at Daytona Bike week and was based on a build for John Mellencamp. While developing his own parts line and building bikes for customers Satya found time to build a bike that would compete against the best in the world, the Kyrgyz. This bike would redefine his style and zero in on his niche. The Kyrgyz made its debut at Sturgis in 2007. Kyrgyz placed 12th in the world at the AMD World Championships and went on to be recognized 6 other times over the next year including a first at the Grand National Show, 2nd at the Rod and Custom Show, 1st at the San Fran Cow Palace Show and 2nd at the Arlen Ness Custom Show. By 2008 Kyrgyz had been featured in Hot Bike Magazine, Wild Magazine, and Custom Bike magazine. Receiving many accolades for his work Satya was then asked by Kirk Taylor to be apart of his build crew on the number one rated prime time CMT TV show Chopper CHALLENGE. One of Satya’s most recent builds Snatch has received 5th place in the 2009 AMD world Championship of Custom Bike Building. Although Satya has been competitive in the custom show scene his real passion lies in developing and testing fully functional groundbreaking motorcycle designs that are for one purpose. NOT BAD FOR A STOCKER!
DYNA story written by Satya Kraus
I have a lot of full custom bikes and love to ride them but when you’ve got that much money and time invested in something it’s hard to take it out and beat it up on a daily bases.
set of mid controls. I got an Acerbis LED headlight and some cool parts from my bro at MX1West to give the bike a little style. A few little pieces here and there and I was ready to head off to Sturgis for the yearly trip. The bike performed great and got plenty of looks too. I pissed off hundreds of baggers as I flew by them on the many amazing roads of the Black Hills. The Ohlins rear suspension and upside-down front end, not to mention a lot of brakes, has put the Dyna in a whole other riding bracket. Able to lye the bike over in a corner and not worry about the kickstand or controls slapping the ground gives the rider piece of mind and confidence. CONTINUE >

hen you leave a $50k bike on the street in front of the bar its hard to be relaxed. Not that everyone shouldn’t own one or two full customs, but that you should also have the modified stocker that is replaceable. That’s what I set out to do with a ugly, heavy, 1999 Harley Dyna. First thing to go was the front end which I replaced with a inverted sport bike model that is running big radial brakes. I set it up with a set of Black Bike Aluminum spoke wheels and some oversize Ohlins shocks on the rear. The only frame modification was cutting short the rear fender struts and removing the oversize square box on the side of the bike that held all the electrical. I beat out some aluminum panels to thin out the look of the center of the bike under the seat and fashioned an aluminum tail section to give a bit of a dirt bike feel. Fabricated the gas tank, a set of 1 inch motocross bars, and a simple

was helping a Dirty Dave finish up his Streamlined Sportster for Bonneville Salt Flats when he talked me into taking something to the salt myself. I figured the Dyna might be fun to get out there so I changed the bars out for some clip-ons and banged out a front fender. We rolled into Bonneville after a couple late nights of working on the bikes and a 12 hour drive and settled right in with the other salty dogs. We took the first day to get everything squared away with tech inspection and registration then got right on the track the next morning. The first run I figured I’d go out and feel the salt under my tires and maybe just break 100mph.
Taking the bike up to speed felt smooth and comfortable; I think all the time I’ve spent on dirt has payed off. As I passed 107mph my speedo cut out so I just kept rolling it on and before I knew it I’d passed the 3rd mile and it was time to
BUILDERPROFILE start decelerating. Rolling into the pit I heard over the speaker my numbers and a time of 131 mph. Right away I thought to myself lets go again‌ I changed out a sprocket and despite the 3.5 hr lines to get to the run we pursued and got faster every time. Next run was 139.5. That’s when I realized I was getting close to the record of 142.7mph. All the sudden the game changed and I had a mission. I spent the next two days tuning and running to get the last few mph and on the last day it came together for a record run of 143.57mph and a back up run of 146.54mph for an average record of 145.05mph in the 1650cc mpf class.
