HISTORY OF LUNA PARK Welcome to the North 13th Street / Luna Park Business District, home of the Luna Park Business Association. There have been many changes along this historic street in the last 150 years. In the early days, North 13th Street was known as the Oakland Road. Yes, what was then a dirt road was the most direct route between the cities of Oakland and San Jose. North 13th Street has always been one of the main gateways to San Jose, lined with commercial businesses to serve the traveler as well as surrounding community.

Councilmember Raul Peralez talks with Northside community Councilmember Peralez represents the District 3 downtown area that includes the Northside neighborhood where he recently discussed the following issues asked by the Northside Board. Berryessa BART: end-of-line stations often have elevated levels of crime, transient activity, and traffic. How do you plan to spearhead efforts to get ahead of these potential impacts on Northside?; Taylor/101 interchange: The City is planning a full interchange. This potentially will transform Northside into a pass-through neighborhood for both BART and Hwy. 101. How do you plan to drive this issue with Dept. of Traffic to restore the plan to limit access to Maybury traffic only, prevent widening of Taylor Street, and ensure that planning and budgeting for extensive Northside traffic calming improvements are included in the plan?; Transients at Backesto/Watson Park: What is your plan for addressing increasing transient activity through park rangers enforcing park rules?; Streetlights: How do you intend to get priority for Northside in replacing the old yellow streetlights with the new LED lights that San Jose is installing?; 13th Businesses: What initiatives are you planning to address the increased commercial vacancies in the Luna Park Business District?; Illegal dumping: What can you do to increase the frequency of local dumpster days from once per 3 years as part of the new planned garbage contract?; Code Enforcement: What is the most effective way for residents to hold Code Enforcement more accountable for requests for service due to ongoing complaints? If you have other questions or concerns contact your District 3 Councilmember at 408-535-4903 or by the City website District Three page.
