he days are shorter, a chill is in the air and the excitement of the upcoming holiday season is upon us again. These are just some of the things I really enjoy about the month of November. I hope everyone had a fun, safe Halloween, and remembered to set your clocks back that night! What a terrific year it has been. Can Your Car Weather the Storm? Winterizing your car can keep you safe and your car running smoothly in the coldest time of the year.

eady or not, winter is on its way. With that said, you’ll want to be sure your car is ready to battle the elements before Jack Frost starts nipping at your windshield. Follow these tips before to prepare your venture out into the winter wonderland. • Get a tune-up. Have your mechanic check your hoses, belts and anti-freeze. A weakened hose or belt can break and leave you stranded, or a weak solution of anti-freeze can ice up and damage your cooling system. • Check your battery. Make sure your car’s battery connection is clean, tight and corrosion-free. The battery should be securely mounted. If the battery is three years old or more, have it tested and replace it if necessary. • Check the antifreeze. As a general rule of thumb, clean, flush and put new antifreeze in the cooling system every two years. • Check your heater and defroster. If your heater isn’t working, you’ll probably know. But what about front and rear defrosters? Before you’re faced with a frosty windshield, turn your front and rear defrosters on and off to make sure they’re working.
• Give yourself a brake. If you have the slightest concern that something’s amiss with your brakes, get them inspected immediately. If you have anti-lock brakes, you should avoid pumping the brakes if you begin to slide.

• Check engine performance before winter sets in. Winter magnifies existing problems such as hard starts, sluggish performance or rough idling. • Fill up with washer fluid. Slush and mud splashed on a windshield can spell danger for a winter driver. Make sure your washer fluid reservoir is sufficiently full, and keep a spare jug in the trunk. • Let there be light. Check to see that exterior and interior lights work and headlights are properly aimed. • Consider new wiper blades. Even if your windshield wiper blades are

America’s businesses turn to Ford Vans as economy grows

rowing businesses are increasingly turning to Ford commercial vans, making Ford the largest and fastest-growing manufacturer of commercial vans in the United States in the first half of 2015, according to Ford analysis of IHS new vehicle registrations through June. Ford vans have been America’s best-selling commercial vans for 36 years, helping businesses transport equipment to job sites, shuttle passengers to
their destinations and more. The new Transit, which went on sale just last summer, can be converted to serve as emergency response vehicles, food trucks and mobile dog grooming studios. “Transit customers appreciate the van’s flexibility because it can enable them to right-size their vehicle to the needs of their vocation.” says Yaro Hetman, Ford brand manager for Transit, Transit Connect and E-Series. “There are 12 ship-through upfitters located within 30 miles of Kansas City Assembly Plant, making it easy and fast for customers to design their Transit vans to serve their business requirements.” Commercial van sales are increasing as the U.S. economy is growing. According to Ford analysis of IHS data, Ford vans drove 80 percent of growth in the segment in the first half of the year and are top sellers in 47 states. Those 47 states represent 99.09% of the U.S. population. Ford Transit became the best-selling full-size van in America just six months after it went on sale, replacing America’s best-selling van for 35 years, E-Series, first sold in 1961 as Ford Econoline. For the 2015 model year, Ford produced more than 100,000 Transit vans, wagons, cutaways and chassis cabs at Kansas City Assembly Plant.
Nissan Murano tops Midsize SUV segment in 2015 J.D. Power Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) SM Study
T
hree Nissan models have been recognized as being among the most appealing vehicles to own and drive in their segments in the just released J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Automotive, Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) StudySM – led by the totally redesigned 2015 Nissan Murano crossover’s top finish in the Midsize SUV category. The 2015 Altima, Nissan’s best selling vehicle, improved three positions over the 2014 study to tie for second place, just two points behind the leader in the Midsize Car segment. The 2015 Nissan Frontier finished third in the Midsize Pickup segment behind two recently introduced pickups. The annual APEAL Study, now in its 20th year, surveys purchasers and lessees of new vehicles, giving owners a platform to evaluate their cars, trucks and SUVs across 77 specific attributes. The results are combined into an overall APEAL score measured on a 1,000-point scale. The study found that some safety features substantially improved owners’ sense of security – and satisfaction – with their vehicles. Nissan continues to offer a range of advanced safety and connectivity system technologies across a wide application of vehicles and trim levels – including Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW), Driver Attention Alert (DAA) and Around View® Monitor (AVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD). “Given its bold new design, the APEAL Study results showed that exterior and interior styling are by far the leading purchase reasons for Murano buyers,” said Fred Diaz, senior vice president, Sales & Marketing and Operations, U.S.A., Nissan North America, Inc.
