LINK (List-Inquire-Note-Know)
Description
Students prepare for new learning by activating their prior knowledge about a topic or concept. This strategy provides an opportunity to clarify misconceptions before a study of a new concept begins. It also engages students' learning by making and discussing predictions.

- 1. Show students a picture, diagram, or key word or term related to the new topic or concept. 2. LIST- Working individually, students list everything that comes to mind. 3. Working with the whole class, the teacher asks students to give their responses and lists them on an overhead or a blackboard. 4. INQUIRE- Working in small groups, students inquire of each other. They ask for clarification or more information about the points listed. The teacher may also clarify any important misconceptions that could affect the students' understanding of the concept. 5. NOTE- Students note (write, list, draw) everything that they have learned, with the overhead turned off. If students appear to have a number of misconceptions, the teacher may wish to make another list of student-suggested points on the overhead. 6.
