A LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Hello everyone, and welcome to the latest edition of Elevated magazine, Agent Inc.’s premiere publication designed to keep you in touch with all the latest news and trends in luxury real estate and lifestyle.

Autumn is upon us and I’m happy to report that the real estate industry is still alive and well! Over the past months, there have been a million predictions about what would happen to the market, what could happen to home prices, inventory, demand, etc.

Let’s take a look at the numbers across Orange County. With an expected market time of 41 days in the midst of November, the Orange County housing market is hotter than the spring markets of 2014 through 2019. For homes priced between $750K and $1.25M, the expected market time is 32 days and account for 25% of the market and 36% of the demand. For luxury homes priced between $1.25M and $2M, the expected market time is 64 days and account for 16% of the market and 11% of the demand. And on average, homes statewide in California gained $12K in equity over Q2. Simply put, this is a hot sellers market across the board!

But Elevated isn’t just about real estate. Our goal is to supply our readers with everything they need to enjoy a luxury lifestyle, elevated. That’s why Elevated magazine is proud to feature several local businesses, restaurants, fitness gurus, and expert agents in our fall issue, giving you access to everything you need to make your home, your life, and even your dinners as enjoyable as possible. We’ve got great gift ideas, restaurant spotlights, healthy eating tips, and even the latest news and trends in luxury architecture. So, take a deep breath, inhale the cool autumnal air, and enjoy the latest issue of Elevated magazine!

Grounded in health care expertise and enabled by access to leading experts, technologies and tools, Lead With Care sets out clear procedures that educate and empower employees to take care of guests and each other. • Swim with vineyard views – Two outdoor swimming pools – one adults-only and one for families – are nestled amid the vineyard with scenic views, beckoning with an invitation to play or unwind. Dedicated attendants provide every poolside comfort, and guests will enjoy Campo Poolside, an open-air restaurant featuring an enticing menu of Cal-Mexican dishes. • Farmhouse-chic design – The distinctive design of Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley’s accommodations is rustic yet elegant. The resort’s well-appointed guestrooms and suites balance a neutral color palette that complements the surrounding nature with dark tones inspired by the on-site winery’s barrel rooms, plus ample natural light, unique textiles, and thoughtful furniture and design details such as custom live-edge wooden headboards.

THE ALL NEW

OCMA

60

You’ve been a vital proponent of the Orange County Museum of Art addition at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa for quite some time. Tell us how it all came to fruition and where you currently are in the building process? The vision started with Henry Segerstrom and the Segerstrom family- true champions of the arts. The dozens of early supporters understand how art enhances culture and lives. The impact cannot be underestimatedthe efforts to expose people are continuous. We recently topped of the building with the final steel beam- the structural form is dynamic and exciting. You’ve seen the architectural vision on paper and now in real life. What are some of your favorite characteristics of the new OCMA site? Two come immediately to mind- the building literally hugs the Richard Serra sculpture that has sat alone on the site anxiously awaiting the long journey to this point. The interaction is beautiful. Second, the terrace and gardens on the top of the building give back nearly 80% of the site for public enjoyment. This outdoor space which so perfectly defines California will be a destination.

When the pandemic hit, it looked like the construction of the new site would have to halt. How were you able to continue gaining momentum through these unique times and see the project through? The effort is day to day, and we are not out of the woods. There are hard hat tours every week to introduce potential donors to the vision, the project and the potential. The global pandemic has been particularly hard on arts organizations- we need help. This project is ten years in the making. What has been your favorite stage of the journey? The design phase was a long journey– it had multiple points of reinvention to balance changing needs, lifestyle, technology and capital efficiency. Ironically the stops and starts provided time to get it just right. I could not be prouder of the result. You are a man with vision. What do you see the new OCMA achieving for generations to come?

This venture required a coordinated effort to reach out to several donors and raise a substantial amount of money to build Orange County’s largest and most impressive museum. How did you go about tackling that endeavor?

Art allows us to look at life through a different lens- it challenges us to think beyond our own one-dimensional experience and hopefully embrace other perspectives. OCMA in collaboration with the other arts institutions on the Segerstrom campus will be able to enhance the visual art experience through music, dance, theatre and other live performances.

It all starts with the rather small but dedicated Museum family- one that we hope to expand- come join us! The Board has given significantly to the effort and we are calling on all of Orange County to help complete the cultural campus.

It’s rumored there are still “naming capabilities” for sections of the museum. Tell us how someone can become an influential part of a project that promises to influence and educate the citizens or Orange County for generations to come. Yes! Both the institution and building are available. It’s the last opportunity within our County arts center to make a significant impact and build a multi-generational legacy. When the new OCMA opens to the public in 2022, how will you celebrate? Initially with a sigh of relief and a very large glass of champagne. Secondarily when we witness the over 20,000 school children that we expect to visit annually who will for many be stepping into an art museum for the very first time.

Summer House Corona Del Mar Ask any Corona del Mar local about Summer House, and you’ll immediately get a warm smile. Summer House has been a neighborhood favorite for years, serving up coastal comfort cuisine that combines the laidback CDM atmosphere with local ingredients, fresh seafood, craft cocktails, and a perfectly paired wine list. Designed as a quintessential SoCal beach house, Summer House’s warm and inviting interior aesthetic echoes the endless summer vibe Corona del Mar is renowned for. With a dedicated staff committed to harmoniously blending the oceanside lifestyle with attention to detail, Summer House continues to create world-class dishes designed to take “beach cuisine” to the next level. So, it was with great pleasure that Elevated magazine was able to swing by and grab ourselves a bite (Ginger Crusted Fresh Ono, Potstickers, Baby Back Ribs, and a couple perfect Ultimate Margaritas), and check in with owner Dale Pierro to discuss the locals’ favorite relaxed, yet refined, spot to dine.

Summer House has been a favorite among locals for years. Tell us why you think Summer House remains the go-to casual dining spot in Corona Del Mar? There is something about the sea air and the welcoming spirit of Corona Del Mar that attracts people to this area. The Summer House restaurant has become an icon not only because it is located along beautiful Pacific Coast Highway, but also because upon stepping inside there is a welcoming family spirit and an aroma of “home” in the air. Also, what truly makes Summer House the go-to location is the consistency of quality. Our chef takes pride in creating dishes that leave a lasting impression with our diners. Over the past 12 years at Summer House, our dedication to quality and consistency has been an integral part of our reputation, and pairs perfectly with our friendly and attentive staff of servers. Your menu is defined as American comfort food with a tropical twist. Tell us what inspires the menu. The Summer House menu offers a wide variety of food choices and combinations that satisfy a wide range of palettes. From our iconic comfort food dishes to our signature entrees like Island Chicken, to our flagship Ginger Crusted Fresh Ono, we serve up cuisine with a tropical flair that delivers a true island feel. The Summer House brunch is a staple for Corona Del Mar weekends. Why are people so obsessed with it? There’s something special about sharing good times with good friends— and that’s what Summer House delivers day in and day out—especially for brunch! Our delicious food and cocktails are built to please the most discerning palette, whether it’s our savory, homemade biscuits and rich gravy, our Hangover Burger, or our Eggs Benedict with thick Canadian bacon in a creamy fresh hollandaise sauce. Plus, our iconic Bloody Mary’s and fresh Mimosas are guaranteed to make you smile. Everyone who has sat down at Summer House knows there is harmonious blend of a casual beach vibe combined with impeccable service and attention to detail. How are you able to walk that fine line between a relaxed atmosphere and excellent customer service? The Summer House has always been a family-first restaurant, and our entire staff is an integral part of the family. Each and every one of our crew lets our diners know that when you’re here you’re family—and that’s what makes it a 5-star experience for our customers every time. Also, our distinctive, relaxed coastal decor and atmosphere is designed to create the feeling of being inside the home of a close friend. Summer House boasts a fine craft cocktail menu including several variations on the classic margarita. Can you tell us a little about the bar program and how you select your cocktails and wine. Many of our specialty cocktails have been inspired by some of our local regulars, which make each of them a special addition to our menu. Our expert mixologists have also added their own signature creations, and many of those have become Corona Del Mar favorites. Personally, I’ve been in the restaurant business for over 45 years and pride myself on customer service and experience. Uniqueness and delicious craft cocktails and spirits are an important part of dining enjoyment. All of our craft cocktails feature fresh, seasonal ingredients that work in harmony to create a special taste sensation.

It’s impossible to discuss restaurants these days without mentioning Covid-19. What has Summer House done to recreate that laid back, beach house vacation feeling it’s known for in the midst of a global pandemic? The pandemic has impacted the restaurant industry in ways that have challenged even the most experienced owner, like myself. First and foremost, we at the Summer House wanted our valued customers to feel confident in the safety standards we put in place for their dining experience. Every table is appropriately spaced apart, our entire staff wears face coverings at all times, tables and chairs are sanitized between use, and sanitizer is provided throughout the restaurant for staff as well as customers. We have patio areas in the front as well as back of the restaurant. Our beachfront bistro style layout allows for safe conversation and dining. The back patio area is covered by a large open-air tent that is comfortably boarded with palm leaf fabric allowing for a protective area while dining. All patio areas have space heaters to keep our patrons comfortable and warm. During warmer days we have fans to cool you down—along with that sweet ocean breeze. Many people also request our two-top on the front patio. It provides a private little enclave surrounded by flower boxes, and is safely distanced from other tables, giving you a private and secluded dining experience. If you could pack Summer House into a suitcase and pop it open anywhere in the world, where would you take it? I’d take Summer House to Nassau in the Bahamas where the laid back and welcoming vibe fits right in with ours. If you’ve ever experienced the Bahamian people you’d know why this would be the perfect place for a Summer House restaurant. They treat everyone like family, and take pride in serving others for a memorable experience. All that, and the trade winds that blow through have Summer House written all over it. When the day is done at Summer House and it’s time to relax, what are you most proud of? As I mentioned previously, I have 45 years in the restaurant business. I started in my teens and have worked from the ground up, literally. The Summer House here in Corona Del Mar is the pinnacle of my career in this business. I truly could not be more proud than to have been blessed to not only own this iconic establishment, but also to be able to prove the same delicious food, spirits, and experiences to the fine people of Corona Del Mar and beyond. Summer House and the people it employs is a dream come true for me, and I am dedicated to keeping it the same great place that our customers have always enjoyed. Our staff is the best, and they truly enjoy their jobs and the people they serve—we’re family! We’re on a first-name basis with many of our customers and I love that people can connect and catch-up at our establishment. When the day has ended, it’s common to hear someone say, “That was a good day, let’s do it again!”

Elevated Agent Spotlight: Hoda Hajirnia and Drew D’Angelo of The HD Team Integrity. Inspiration. Dedication. Success. When it comes to real estate elevated, few teams have accomplished what Hoda Hajirnia and Drew D’Angelo have in the four years they’ve been revolutionizing the real estate industry. From record breaking sales, to cutting-edge home redesigns, to starring in Bravo’s Real Estate Wars, to forward-thinking development endeavors, Hoda and Drew have redefined the luxury real estate industry in Orange County, representing one-of-a-kind listings that will make your jaw drop. Known for their expertise, passion, and overall positive vibes, Hoda and Drew have created a business that offers clients a personalized and curated real estate experience from start to finish, leaving no stone unturned. Elevated was excited to sit down with the dynamic duo for an insider’s look at what’s happening in the world of HD, and to get to know a little bit more about their roots, aspirations, and predictions for the future. The last couple of years have been impressive for the HD Team, from starring in Bravo’s Real Estate Wars, to consistently breaking real estate records. What’s the secret to your success? Hoda: Keeping on top of the market and remaining on top of current trends has helped keep our game in HD. We’ve always striven to be a step ahead in all aspects of real estate, from marketing to branding to selling. We are committed to being the first to implement new innovations and set the standard for the industry. Drew: There are no secrets to success—there are only measures. My approach is and has always been that every level has a different process associated with that achievement and that process changes you and grooms you for the next level. The HD Team is tenacious, relentless—we never doubt we are ready for the moment we find ourselves in. We are undergirded by faith and belief and as such, we humble ourselves to listen first, respond—not react—and above all else, to be effective. The HD Team prides itself on an unparalleled knowledge of the industry, from development, to construction, to marketing, to negotiating. Tell us how you consistently remain on top of your game? Drew: Experience is the largest part of this. My career leading up to becoming an agent as a land developer and fund manger has given me the basis to understand how information streams are dealt with, how to disseminate this information, and how to prioritize and manage the trades associated with the tasks. My experiences and professional relationships I’ve cultivated have also taught me how to implement a marketing vision for what we do—I know exactly how I want our strategy to be executed. Hoda is a huge part of this because she understands my vision, allowing us to create our pieces together. It also helps that I am intimately involved in the design of projects, construction, and the backend of deals as it helps me keep a pulse on what people want. We are always seeking new ways to improve and innovate. Hoda: Drew has really helped infuse our business with development, construction, entitlement, and design. I get involved on the sales side of things by bringing my A-game when it comes to branding and marketing, no matter what the product or property is. From brand new construction to seasoned homes, I keep a pulse on everything marketing related, and if I see marketing materials that aren’t real estate related that capture my attention, I take note, reimagine them, and use the information to create our own addictively captivating campaigns. We always strive to bring something fresh and new to the marketplace not only with our product, but also with the way we sell it. 2020 happened and is still happening. Has the real estate industry

changed? If so, what should every client be aware of nowadays? Hoda: Yes, the real estate industry has changed. It has become more difficult to do pretty much everything. It’s harder to get foot traffic in the door when we can’t hold events or broker opens. The HD Team has also made its name with our signature events, especially for our “megalistings.” There are several additional protocols in place now, such as signed COVID release forms in order to hold private showings. It has certainly been quite the year, but all that said, with every challenge there is opportunity. We adapted to thinking even more outside the box, and have made it work for all our clients. Drew: The industry has changed so much with legislation that, in my opinion, it only hurts sellers and agents. The COVID 19 disclosures are great for all parties. But the clear cooperation policy is ambiguous at best and now not allowing agents to disclose off-market properties is absurd. The selling point was “leveling the playing field.” The reality is that larger companies were unable to compete with hyper-local agents who are well connected and can make deals happen with one phone call. Every client should be aware they are protected by disclosure and they should also make sure whoever they hire understands all the various elements of said disclosure. The HD Team was featured on Bravo’s Real Estate Wars. Tell us what it was like being in front of the camera and what you gained from that experience. Drew: For me, being in front of the camera was intimidating at first—it’s more psychological than anything. It brings to the surface the insecurities that lay within. As time goes on, it becomes your friend and a place where you overcome these insecurities, and eventually, it gives you the confidence to continue to persevere. For me it was a form of therapy. It allowed me to overcome my shyness, to overcome what others thought of me, and to start caring more about what I thought. It forced me to truly find myself and be original without sacrifice. I always wanted to be on TV, and somehow God made it happen. It’s an experience not too many people have the luxury of achieving, and I’m grateful for it. Hoda: I went to school to be a journalist, and found myself at a television news network where they wanted me to be on camera. That was not my intention. Then Real Estate Wars happens, and there I am on camera. At first, I absolutely hated it. I was at a point where I was just gaining momentum in my real estate endeavors and we were shooting during a serious breakthrough in my career. I had just transitioned from submillion dollar homes to multi-million dollar estates. My confidence wasn’t quite there—I was the only female on the team and I was also traversing a male-dominated industry while recording a new series for the first time ever while taking my career to the next level. From that experience I gained confidence, and became less reserved on camera, which allowed me to be myself and come out of my shell, both on camera and off. Real Estate Wars also gave me a platform to discuss my eating disorder and brought some light to an issue that many people struggle with. As a result of the series, I was able to appear in various outlets such as the Today Show and People Magazine to discuss my struggles, provide hope for those afflicted with eating disorders, and help people see the light at the end of the tunnel. Drew, you previously made a name for yourself in real estate development. Now the HD Team is one of the top luxury duos in Orange County. So, how did the HD Team start? Drew: Hoda didn’t want to partner up with anyone at first. Hoda: I got Drew’s attention because John McMonigle, founder of Agent Inc., would always mention me when we were at another brokerage. We had a small team, and John would always mention the properties I would list and close, and Drew had just hung his license at the brokerage. I got

a lot of team members’ attention and I said no to a few people, thinking I would be better off on my own. But then Real Estate Wars happened and suddenly, we were together. Drew: I kept hearing about this new agent in the office, someone I’d never heard of—Hoda. I had my license before she did and was on the team well before she was there. Then Real Estate Wars came about and a mutual client of ours mentioned her. So I figured if we were going to make good TV, why not team up for the show and see what we could do. And bam! I called her one day and said “Hey, we’re teaming up.” I explained why and she bought in. And then The HD Team officially started after Hoda and I closed our first transaction together in Woodland Hills. It was something that, from a marketing perspective, I wanted to play with. I thought with our initials we had something that we could really work with. When we first discussed working together, my mind went directly to the idea of making peoples lives and their experiences with us…HD. Hoda at first didn’t even respond—I’m sure she didn’t think this could be a longterm thing. Then after we closed two more deals setting records, we both committed ourselves to our brand--#lifeinHD and #missionHD.

dedicate ourselves wholly to our clients. Drew: First, I’m extremely grateful we have the bond and friendship that you mention. Second, as Hoda explained, we have grown into a family. We love and appreciate one another and do things that will benefit each other and the team. We operate with accountability and trust as a result of a relationship that has blossomed. Teams and teammates often have rituals and superstitions. How about the HD Team? Hoda: In the Middle East, there is a symbol and piece of jewelry I wear called the “evil eye” that protects me from negative energy and bad luck. Drew: Always speak it into existence. I pray a lot when it comes to our business and for the wisdom to handle everything that is set before us. I always pray over the home privately and for the family that we are selling for. The first thing you do when you close a sale is…

Hoda: The energy, the vibe—everything was on point during our first transaction, and I really enjoyed working with Drew and having a partner. It organically bloomed from the first deal we did. After that, it was a snowball affect. We constantly had deals back-to-back during that time and it’s been the same ever since. When it comes to rethinking and rebranding properties, The HD Team sets the standard for the industry. What should homeowners be thinking about before they take their property to market? Drew: Purpose. Sellers need to have real discussions about their purpose for selling, and outline a plan and strategy that benefits them the most. They need to be aligned with their agent in regards to this purpose, as it only works when all parties are committed to the same goal. People. Sellers need to relate and understand their agent as they take this journey together. The agent subsequently needs to put the relationship before commission. The seller needs to be heard and understand the character of the agent. Once this key factor is solidified, the purpose is further defined and the flow becomes much better.

Hoda: I have a “wishlist” on my phone. When we close a deal, I grab something that will make myself and my loved ones happy. Drew: I thank God, our clients, and my partner for a great team effort. Then, typically, I buy myself a new pair of shoes. Most people don’t know why, but I do this because if you have a fresh pair of shoes, it’s symbolic of walking a new path and keeps me reminded that I am once again setting out on a new journey with a fresh perspective. You’re both Southern California natives, so we have to ask—Lakers or Clippers? Dodgers or Angels? Hoda: That’s not even a question. Lakers all day. I bleed purple and gold. I don’t watch baseball, but if I had to choose, I would choose the Dodgers. Drew: Lakers all day! Dodgers all day! You two know OC like the back of your hands. What’s your go-to spot for a pitch perfect meal?

Product. The seller must understand that if the purpose and the people are aligned, the product needs to be presented in the best possible light. The seller needs to trust the agents’ knowledge of what the market wants, and how the asset should be presented.

Hoda: I’m a lover of sushi, so if I had to choose the perfect place to dine, it would be Bluefin in Newport Beach. But my go-to for a healthy, quick bite would be Zinque in Lido Isle. I get the Le Bowl with cauliflower instead of brown rice, add chicken!

Price. An agent needs to be the local expert. A seller needs to remove their emotions from this part of the process. At the end of the day, if everyone is on the same page and everything is agreed upon and successfully implemented, the seller will get exactly what they want.

Drew: A pitch perfect meal is with my family and friends. The more I am with them, the better the meal is.

Process. Sellers should always be briefed in detail about the steps and timing associated with selling their home. If they are not given this information problems will arise.

Hoda: In 5-10 years, I see us continuing to kill it and geographically expanding our farm areas. In 30 years, I see our children running the HD Team.

Hoda: And make sure to de-clutter and clean your house!

Drew: In 5-10 years, I see us expanding to different areas along the coast and strategically targeted locales across the nation. I would like to create a franchise. I also see the brand creating a design/build firm under the HD company umbrella. I see us continuing to double our business annually as we have always done. 30 years?!!! Wow. I hope to be retired and having Hoda and her children and my children running our companies. She’s younger than me, so she’s got more time, lol!

You two spend a ton of time together and have formed a strong bond and friendship. Tell us why that is such an important part of the process. Hoda: I consider Drew family now, and I’m sure he feels the same about me. We are family, and family means everything to us. We both share the same views and believe family comes first. Trust is built on having similar views and values, and I think Drew and I came together when we realized that this was more than just a real estate partnership—it is a true friendship. We want the best for the both of us, and that allows us to

Where do you see the HD Team in 5 years, 10 years, 30 years?

Elevated Design Spotlight: Chris Brandon of Brandon Architects

Photography by Braedon Flynn

For over a decade, Chris Brandon and his team of diverse and talented designers have been dramatically influencing the architectural and interior design elements of Newport Beach and Coastal Orange County. Since Chris first began designing high-end custom homes and modern custom luxury boutique hotels, he’s placed a high value on intertwining art, architecture, and the natural environment into his projects, with a focus on inspiring an environmentally sensitive footprint. His unique and progressive approach to design has made Brandon Architects one of the preeminent firms in Southern California, and has literally changed the face of Coastal Orange County by seamlessly blending architecture with its surrounding environment. Elevated was excited to check-in with Chris and find out more about his vision and what’s new and exciting in the world of design.

1. Everyone has a vision of their dream home. How do you get inside your client’s heads and execute that vision? Great question—it’s one of our favorite parts of the job. We love to get to know our clients and feed off their creativity. We achieve this mostly through conversations, looking at tons of images, sharing books, and touring various completed projects and projects under construction. Everyone speaks a different language when it comes to design, so getting on the same “wavelength” with our clients is important and we try to have a lot of fun with it. 2. Your homes are extensions of the environment they are built within. How important is it to create a residence that not only fits the personality of the client, but also seamlessly transcends the spirit of the community or region it is in? Paramount! What we design becomes the built environment that surrounds us all, not just our clients. So we always try to find a way to satisfy our clients’ needs while being sensitive to the existing neighborhood and the pattern of development. When we hear positive feedback from the community around our designs, we feel like we’ve done our job well. 3. When it comes to architectural design, trends come and go. What design element do you see right now that will have the most longevity? I think the connection we have to the outdoors is here to stay. Our team has a deep understanding and passion for indoor/outdoor design, and we are dedicated to creating integrated spaces that stand the test of time. 4. You’ve built in the mountains, you’ve built by the sea, you’ve built in wine country. How do you approach your projects with environment in mind? We approach each of our projects with a very open mind and careful consideration of the setting, views, community and environment. Our approach is to strike a balance between what our client wants to achieve while being sensitive to the site, designing around challenges, and exploiting positive features. Sometimes that means picking highly durable materials to withstand extreme marine exposure by the beach, orienting a mountain home to maximize sun during the winter months, or designing around extreme wildfire risk. Being conscientious while designing a beautiful and functional home is what good architecture is all about.

5. You grew up in rural Oregon in a vibrant, natural locale. How do you incorporate the beauty of the outdoors into your architectural designs? I did grow up around rural natural beauty and spent most of my free time outdoors enjoying it. Yet during college I spent an amazing year living in Sydney, Australia, which is a beautiful and dense city. I realized that natural beauty could come on a very small scale too. So, I think my designs are always trying to better connect us to outdoor beauty, whether it’s with a small interior courtyard in Corona Del Mar, or an expansive view of the Russian River Valley. 6. Brandon Architects is dedicated to designing homes that leave a small environmental footprint. How do you go about creating residences that lead to better living for all? Socially responsible design is more than just solar panels and recycled materials. We try to look holistically at how our homes will impact our clients, the land, the neighborhood, and future residents. For example, for our Farmhouse in Santa Ynez we had 22 acres to work with, but finding a place to put the home to have views without disturbing the beautiful oak trees gave us a very small buildable area. Designing for resiliency is also important. I’m sure we’ve all seen some homes in the Newport Beach area that have been torn down that are less than 20 years old, because the house is poorly designed and doesn’t support the price of the land. That’s wasteful. Good design is timeless and should give a home a long useful lifespan. 7. Most people think building a luxury home from the ground up is a difficult and time-consuming goal. What advice do you have for someone who is interested in working with Brandon Architects but is unsure about the process? I always tell people if they’ve never built a home before they’ve come to the right place. Sometimes, building a home is a difficult and timeconsuming process, but we try our very best to make the journey an easy, efficient, and rewarding one. We pride ourselves on “demystifying” the process and making it very easy to understand what the design will look and feel like. Our renderings and VR technology are a significant part of that. Having an incredible staff to thoroughly document our designs and manage all the consultants and permitting processes is all part of our concierge customer service. 8. Name one design feature you think every one of your clients needs when it comes to enjoying their ideal home. Natural light. It’s hard to downplay the importance of this in a new home. It’s simple, but oftentimes overlooked. 9. You can build your own dream home anywhere in the world—where is it and what’s the defining feature? Ha! Classic question. Every architect probably dreams of designing their own private lakeside retreat with mountain views surrounded by nobody. I think Wanaka, New Zealand is that place for me—it’s absolutely stunning! Austin Hope Winemaker & President In 1978, Austin Hope came to Paso Robles with his family, when his parents bought a ranch and planted both vineyards and apple orchards. Attempting to punish the rebellious youngster, his father, Chuck Hope put him to work in the vineyards. Much to his father’s surprise, at just eight-years-old, Austin took to the work immediately. Austin studied Fruit Science at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, while Chuck Hope and Austin’s uncle Paul were laying the groundwork for Treana Winery. When Paul passed away in 1996, Chuck Hope turned to his son to lead the family business. The bold and brash 23 year old jumped in ready to make his mark on the business. Working alongside then winemaker Chris Phelps, Austin quickly learned the ropes began producing a $30 red table wine from Paso Robles, which at the time was a largely unknown region. “Maybe it wasn’t the smartest thing in the world to be the first ones out there doing things, but that’s what we do.” says Austin. Austin became Winemaker for the Hope portfolio in 1998. In 2007, with fellow Paso Winemakers started to create what would become the TTB petition for the creation of 11 new sub-AVAs for Paso Robles, a critically important distinction in moving Paso Robles towards becoming a respected wine region. In 2019 Hope was awarded “Wine Person of the Year” by the City of Paso Robles. Upon the inaugural release of the Austin Hope Cabernet, the wine was awarded 97 points, the highest rating ever given by Wine Enthusiast to a Paso Robles wine. Most recently, the 2017 Austin Hope Cabernet was chosen by Wine Enthusiast as #10 Top 100 Enthusiast Wines of the World and is the first time a Paso Robles wine has made the Wine Enthusiast Top 10. Today, Austin is showcasing an even greater sweep of the Paso region and has set the standard for Paso Robles luxury Cabernet Sauvignon, his portfolio of wines has expanded to include Austin Hope, Treana, Liberty School, Troublemaker and Quest wines. With his everlasting desire to make wines that reflect all that Paso has to offer, Austin Hope Cabernet is – Paso Robles Defined.

Elevated’s Fall Focus on Fitness

It’s officially Autumn! That means it’s the season of cool breezes, breathtaking sunsets, a cozy fire, and cute little scarves. It also means it’s the season of pumpkin spice lattes, decadent desserts, roasted birds, buttery mashed potatoes, rich beef burgundy, and all the other scaletipping comfort foods that slowly drip like gravy into our dietary habits. We all know the holiday season is notorious for overindulgence. But even though sucking down a gallon of rum-spiked hot cider alongside half a pumpkin pie sounds like pure heaven (especially during these interesting times), it’s always best to maintain a healthy diet and healthy mind. That’s why Elevated is bringing you some fall lifestyle tips courtesy of Gil Yurly, renowned trainer and owner of Body Wise Fitness in Costa Mesa. From celebrities, to athletes, to politicians, to real estate agents, Gil has been keeping everyone in shape for over 30 years, and is dedicated to helping each of his clients create the best versions of themselves. Fall is a time of overindulgence when it comes to eating. What’s the secret to keeping the pounds off when the temperatures cool down? People should realize they may not be as active in the fall as they were in the summer months. That realization will hopefully translate into better food choices or foregoing some less healthy ones. In a positive light, if

your hectic summer took away from your regular workouts, the fall and winter seasons can become a mental and physical grounding to get back to the basics, regain continuity, and make progress. We all know it’s going to happen. Halloween candy suddenly finds it’s way into the house. Thanksgiving leftovers. Holiday parties with chips and dip. Cold nights where only a burrito will satisfy the cravings. What’s the best way to make up for dietary mistakes? The best scenario is to not go there in the first place. Prolonged disregard for health will reveal itself on the weight scale, in your blood, and in other health tests. My advice is to have one to one-and-a-half cheat days a week. Eat clean the other five-and-a-half days and you’ll be fine. Obviously, refraining from overeating is the key to making it through the fall and winter. But not everyone possesses the mind-power needed to navigate the heavy culinary terrain. What can people do to control their cravings? To help with cravings, try to avoid simple sugars which peak blood sugar levels and lead to eating more and storing body fat. Eat healthy foods, like lean proteins or fruits and veggies, and drink lots of water, which in itself

will cut the cravings. When the temperatures cool down, people head inside. How can people replace the outdoor activity that comes with summer, when the weather isn’t as inviting? Here in SoCal, we are fortunate to be less restricted with regard to climate than most of the country. In the event of laziness, many activities can be brought inside the garage or home. Yoga, Pilates, and cardio exercise are common—grab a set or two of dumbbells and a bench and you can exercise the whole body. Hire a trainer like my wife, Laurel, and myself who will come to your house and bring the necessary equipment. The number one reason people hire a trainer is because they will not or can’t do it on their own! Some of us will avoid the pitfalls of cool weather eating, but some of us won’t. What’s the best advice you can give to those of us who pack on a few pounds during the fall? Get back to the basics when you’ve had enough. Or, I offer the amazing Heaven Sent Weight Loss Program, designed for our clients to lose 15-30 lbs in just 30 days! Bit.ly/HeavenSentWL

You obviously have incredible self control when it comes to your diet and exercise routine. That being said, what’s one food you can’t stay away from when you’re at the Thanksgiving table? When Turkey Day arrives, it’s usually a big feast! No holding back for me. Then again, I workout regularly and eat pretty well, so it’s definitely a welldeserved cheat day! If there’s one thing people can do to eliminate that post Thanksgiving spare tire, what would you recommend? Be smart about what you’re doing to yourself. If you’re careless, you’re going to pay the price! Have a strategy and do your best to follow it! And remember, Body Wise Fitness is a clean and friendly place to get fit!!! To get started on your fall and winter fitness routine, visit mybodywisegym.com or contact Gil Yurly directly at (949) 645-6110.

Europa Village Our story began in the 1970s, when a young businessman named Dan Stephenson visited Europe for the first time and fell in love with the countryside, the food and wine, the culture and the lifestyle. From then on, he had a passion to share his experiences with whomever crossed his path. Thirty years later, Dan and his friend purchased more than 300 acres of land in a little place called the Temecula Valley Wine Country. At that moment, his dream to bring Europe and her old-world charms to our corner of the world sprang to life. Europa Village was born and the strategy for a multi-winery resort was carefully crafted and began rolling out phase by phase, one exciting destination at a time. Today, more than thirty acres of prime Temecula Wine Country property have been planted with popular European-style varietal grapes, bringing forth premium wines in the classic traditions of France, Spain and Italy. Our resort boasts two current winery “destinations”—Bolero, a vibrant new Spanish adventure, and C’est La Vie, the first phase of our amorous, French affair. Here you can indulge in lush vintages, delicious food, exclusive accommodations and one-of-a-kind experiences. And there’s more on the way every day… The next chapter in the Europa Village story will continue our journey through France, with an expansion of C’est La Vie, as well as a brand new winery—Vienza— inspired by the Italian countryside. These exciting European-style venues will be connected by a village of restaurants, boutiques, tasting rooms and walking paths anchored by a luxurious 40-room resort and spa, all designed in classic European style. Until then, our story continues with each new guest, each new wine, and each new seasonal harvest. Our vision can be seen taking shape on the lush hills of Temecula Wine Country, and our commitment to providing the most unique wine country experience in all of California is ongoing. We invite you to join us for a taste of old-world charm, and an experience you’ll never forget. https://www.europavillage.com

SERVICE ELEVATED Pastor Jonathan Domingo and Horizonte Church Rescue Impoverished Special Needs Children in Ensenada, Mexico

The Bible is one of the only religious books that encourages young people to be leaders. A church that does not reach the next generation has an expiration date. JONAT HAN DOM I NGO Pastor | Horizante Church, MX

To donate, volunteer, and change a child’s life at Horizonte, visit www.horizonte.mx today.

For Calvary Chapel Pastor Jonathan Domingo, serving God and community runs in the family. Jonathan’s father, Juan, had a bright business future ahead of him. As a rising star in the MBA program at San Diego State, Juan had just begun building his career and sharpening his professional acumen. But after visiting Mexico and witnessing the rampant poverty surrounding several communities, he wanted to do something different with his life—he felt compelled to help those in need. So, he packed up his ’69 VW Bus and set out for Mexico City, determined to change lives at all costs. Forty years later, Juan Domingo and his family have established over 100 churches across Mexico dedicated to helping impoverished communities and uniting followers. And so, it’s not surprising that today, Jonathan is following in his father’s footsteps, providing spiritual guidance and support for their church, Horizonte, located in Ensenada, Baja Mexico. As a leader of Horizonte, Jonathan works diligently to connect with the youth of his region to spread the word of God through upbeat and engaging services, as well as community outreach—but it doesn’t stop there. Fifteen years ago, Juan and his wife, Tania, established Casa Horizonte, a home devoted to caring for abused and abandoned special needs children, and dedicated to providing the essential love and support critical to transform their lives. Now, Jonathan finds himself as the overseer of Casa Horizonte, where he aims to expand the orphanage’s capabilities and services. Agent Inc. Founder and Co-Founder, John McMonigle and Scott MacDonald recently visited the Casa Horizonte orphanage to lend a hand and witness firsthand what Jonathan has been doing to help children in desperate need of care. From the moment they set foot on the beautifully maintained grounds, John and Scott knew Pastor Jonathan and his family had created an environment designed to give special needs orphans the atmosphere they so desperately need to live a full and fruitful life founded upon love. “I’ve known Juan since he began this journey forty years ago and I’ve been blessed to be a part of it,” says MacDonald. “When I arrived at Casa Horizonte, I was surrounded by smiling children, who, if Juan, Tania, and Jonathan hadn’t stepped in, would most likely not be here with us today. To see children who have survived horrendous atrocities and physical hardships smile and engage with us and one another brought tears to my eyes.” While visiting the Casa Horizonte orphanage, John and Scott were able to witness the children in their new environment under the attentive care of the devoted staff. But they also witnessed something else—a group of children once left to hopelessly fend for themselves now undergoing a spiritual and developmental transformation. “These kids normally wouldn’t have had a fighting chance in life—they were completely neglected and abandoned. But because of the devotion and dedication the entire staff at Casa Horizonte provides, these children have a reason to smile again,” says McMonigle. “And those smiles deeply moved me.” For Jonathan and his family, the presence of the Horizonte Church is fundamental in building a better future for everyone in the community. The on-site Cavalry Chapel Bible College provides education for those who are called to serve, and the weekly events are designed to encourage unity, faith, and compassion within the community. But for Jonathan, it’s not just about what is happening right now—it’s about the future. “The youth of today will be the Christian leaders of tomorrow,” says Jonathan. “I am deeply devoted to communicating God’s message of love and service in an exciting, engaging, and inclusive way to my generation and the generations to follow. By communicating compassion and encouraging ministry, we can create a space where each member of the community and each underprivileged or special needs child has somewhere to turn for help, guidance, love, and joy.” Casa Horizonte prides itself on providing abused and abandoned special needs children the spiritual and personal nourishment they need to continue moving forward. “Jonathan and his family have a deep understanding of the human condition—they’ve seen it all,” says MacDonald. “Jonathan is devoted to nurturing and developing the lives of the children he looks after, and he looks to the Christian community to help continue bringing his family’s vision to life.” Horizonte encourages people of all faiths to visit and experience their vision and take part in community events and charitable works. “Every child deserves to be healthy and supported by the Christian community,” says McMonigle. “By uniting to help children in Mexico and across the planet, we can build a better future here on earth and in the Kingdom of Heaven.”

We Are In the Community, For the Community… We’re passionate about serving and loving the community. Our events, programs and resources are designed to be relevant to our community and are open to everyone – regardless of race, religion or social status. We know you will feel at home here.

CLOSING NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

CYNTHIA LEMAY-TOMASINO It’s hard to believe that 2020 is nearing an end. When this year began, we all had high hopes, relaxing vacations, big plans, and even bigger dreams ahead of us—and many of us had to put much of what we envisioned for this year on hold. But here we are, still moving along, still remaining connected, redefining our communities, and reimagining our lives and our relationships. As the weather cools and we set our sights on the upcoming holidays, I’d also like to remind everyone to be grateful for everything we have right here in front of us. Be grateful for friends and family fellow coworkers. and especially our first responders! At Agent Inc., we understand and celebrate the value of community, of friendship, of stewardship, and of helping others. It is our duty as agents and caretakers to provide the camaraderie and guidance necessary to help all of our clients reach a new, brighter plateau in their life.
