With only a few weeks to go until Summer Madness, we wanted to pass on some key information to all Youth Leaders as you prepare for the festival experience. Before you do anything else, please do take ten minutes to read through the important leader’s guides available on our website, which will serve you well ahead of gathering at Glenarm. The guides on our website include information on cooking, sub camp rules, child protection and a checklist of important items to bring with you. Below are a few extra points that are helpful to consider before the festival.
FESTIVAL ARRIVAL TIMES On Thursday 29th June, we will be opening the sub camp for you to pitch your youth group’s tents a day early. This will make life much easier when you arrive on the Friday. The site will be open for Caravans from 3pm and between 6pm and 9pm for Tents. On Friday 30th June, Summer Madness begins! Gates will be open from 2.30pm.
SUBCAMP SAFETY FIRE SAFETY In the rare event of a fire in the sub camp field, you will hear a fire alarm. When the alarm sounds, everyone must immediately evacuate the sub camp field and gather in the Muster Field. The Muster Field is situated in the field adjacent to the sub camp - the field between the sub camp and the Castle.
Once you gather in the Muster Field, it is the responsibility of the Youth Leaders to gather their Youth Group for a head count and advise Summer Madness Leaders of this information. Everyone is to remain in the Muster Field until further instructions are granted. COOKING SAFETY Please check the connections on your gas cookers to ensure they are in good condition. It’s important to keep your cook tent away from other tents and to ensure cooking does not take place near any canvas. To cook at Summer Madness, you must bring along your own fire extinguisher and fire blanket which can be purchased at any good camping shop. TENT SAFETY When setting up your tent, it’s important to keep Guy Ropes as close to the tent as possible. We want to prevent as many trips between tents as possible, so please ensure that young people do not run in and around tents. Please note: No vehicles are allowed in the Sub Camp field. HYGIENE SAFETY We know it’s obvious, but it’s important to cook everything well. Please see the Catering Guide on our website for more information. Finally, an important item to bring along with you is a few bottles of Hand Sanitisers and Suncream - we’re hopeful for some sun this year!
