Inaugural Patani Science Lecture by Prof Montgomery OBE

The inaugural Patani Lecture took place on Thursday 12 May and was delivered by Professor Hugh Montgomery OBE of University College London, who was appointed as an Officer of the Order of British Empire (OBE) for his services to Intensive Care Medicine and Climate Change.

The Patani Lecture Series has been enabled as part of a very generous donation from the Patani family and is designed to enthuse and stretch aspiring scientist pupils, as part of the Excellence Programme of academic enrichment for John Lyon pupils. The Patani donation has also provided the school with some state-of-the-art science equipment, which has been and will be used by current and future John Lyon pupils. The lecture began with a pre-event drinks reception in the Mall, where selected students and teachers had the chance to speak to Professor Montgomery and the Patani family. The pupils who attended enjoyed hearing about Professor Montgomery’s experience of working as an Intensive Care doctor during the pandemic. Hugh was imparted his wisdom and shared invaluable advice about careers in science. n
