Thursday 30 November 2023 TEDxJohnLyonSchool talks will cover a range of topics, including gene-editing, mental health, bullying, the value of water and private schools.
SPEAKERS Eric Zoica is a Year 10 John Lyon scholar pupil who has
an enjoyment for all Sciences. He has a keen interest for Biology in particular, focusing on new research in genetics and immunology. In his spare time, Eric also enjoys choir singing and playing the piano.
Madisan Nimalathasan is a Year 11 John Lyon pupil
who has a particular interest in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, as well as being thoroughly curious about the world around him. Madisan is no stranger to public speaking, having led a session at John Lyon’s ‘Talks-on-the-Hill’ event. He has always had a passion for medicine and is working towards studying it at university.
Yash Shukla is a Year 11 John Lyon pupil who demonstrates a passionate curiosity for global affairs, with a longing to unravel the complexities of our social, economic and political systems.
Sarim Daniyal is an Upper Sixth John Lyon student who is currently studying Economics, Politics and Mathematics for his A-Levels. He has a passion for flying, is a plane-spotting enthusiast and enjoys playing cricket.
SPEAKERS Chana Hughes is a family psychotherapist from Edgware, working for the NHS and a private practice. Chana regularly writes about mental health, neurodiversity and Jewish thought for several newspapers and specialist publications. Chana also offers systemic training to multiple organisations and charities.
Julien Andre is in his final year at the University of Exeter
reading Philosophy and Spanish. At the age of 10, Julien became the beneficiary of a radical programme that uses boarding school’s as an alternative to foster care. Using the lessons from his experience, he now publically speaks about how education can transform lives; notably speaking at the House of Lords and ITV’s ‘This Morning’, as well as being featured in The Sunday Times. After university, Julien plans to pursue his entreprenial venture.
Agathe Lemaitre is the author of ‘Le Livre de Liane’, a
novel against bullying at school, and is currently leading awareness events in France, Denmark and Switzerland. Agathe uses art, words and social media to promote empathy towards victims, as well as awareness and efficiency on how to prevent bullying.
Shaun Flores is an acclaimed speaker, mental health
advocate and catalyst for change. Shaun inspires countless indiviuals worldwide through the powerful narrative of transforming personal pain into purpose. Undiagnosed mental illness left him feeling hopeless and depressed. He had a moment of realisation: “I’m going to change the world.” He has since been diagnosed and navigates living with OCD and ADHD and says: “OCD was the worst thing to happen to me and I will be the worst thing to ever happen to OCD.”
