SPEAKERS Hanuman Dass Founder and Chairman of Humanitarian Organisation, Go Dharmic

Hanuman has dedicated the last 13 years to compassion and social action through his non-profit, Go Dharmic. Since its start they have established 108 school libraries and computer labs in India and Nepal, distributed 22 million meals globally and created a mangrove forest in Sundarbans, West Bengal. Recognised for his outstanding contribution, Hanuman received the Points of Light Award in 2023 from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Dr Namir Hassan CEO at Zelluna Immunotherapy

Namir is the CEO of a cancer treatment pioneering company, holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, where he also serves as a visiting lecturer. With over 20 years experience in both large pharmaceutical companies and small biotech, and has led groundbreaking research, including the development of a treatment approved for Uveal Melanoma. In the past decade, he has focused on fostering next-generation organisations to maximise the impact of science in medicine. Namir is also passionate about promoting science education and healthy performance, regularly delivering talks to schools on these topics.

Councillor Ketan Sheth Local Labour Politician and Lawyer

Ketan is a lawyer and a local councillor. He is Chair of Brent Council’s Community and Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee and Chair of Northwest London Joint Health Committee (covering nine central and Northwest London boroughs including Harrow). Ketan also sits on a number of public bodies, including Lead Governor of Central and Northwest NHS Foundation Trust and Chair of Valuation Tribunal for England.

George Lawley Former Political Researcher

George is currently the Director of UK Government Relations for Marsh McLennan. He previously worked as part of the Public Affairs Team at Zurich Insurance Company in both London and Washington DC and as a Parliamentary Researcher for the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP and the Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP. George has a Bachelor’s degree in History from Royal Holloway, University of London, and currently serves as Deputy Chair of Gap-Africa, an education charity working to improve access to education in Southern Kenya.


SPEAKERS Julian Carrera Head of Geography at John Lyon

Prior to teaching, Julian occupied the role of Campaigns Director at the NGO War Child, improving the lives of children growing up in conflict zones. Before that, he worked in public relations in the UK music industry. He is fascinated by the relationship between teacher action, student efficacy, and memory in the pursuit of learning. When he is not teaching, Julian is never happier than when he is exploring a new part of a new city on foot with his family.

Korinna Vosper Science Technician at John Lyon

Korinna worked as a Forensic Scientist at The Forensic Science Service for 10 years, initially in the DNA department, before moving into Drug Analysis to train as a Reporting Scientist. Later, she joined the Gun Shot Residue department as an Expert Witness. Since 2021, she has been our Science Technician, and has worked in similar capacities at previous schools since 2016.

Yusuf Mahroo Lower Sixth Student at John Lyon

Yusuf is studying Biology, Chemistry, and Maths for his A-Levels and has an interest in Medicine. He has a love for music, participating in numerous school concerts, as well as a great passion for bouldering.

Xavier Bird Year 7 Pupil at John Lyon

Xavier has a particular interest in IT, Maths, and Sport. He enjoys coding in Python and loves the logical aspect of it. He is a keen public speaker and will always take the opportunity to present when he can. In his spare time, Xavier plays the bass guitar and drums and is a keen cricketer.


We are proud to present our sixth annual lecture series: Talks-on-the-Hill. This event is organised by our ‘Excellence Programme’ and brings together the John Lyon School community and the Harrow-on-the-Hill local community. A series of short and interesting academic talks will be delivered on this year’s theme of ‘How?’, by two CEOs, a local politician, a former political advisor, John Lyon pupils and teachers. Each speaker will approach the theme in their own unique way. The talks will be delivered over two sessions; complimentary food and drinks will be served during the interval. We look forward to welcoming pupils, parents, guardians, family members, staff, governors and Old Lyonians as well as our neighbours.
