Teachers’ Fundamentals: The Catechism

This class will explore principles of effectively teaching the catechism to young adults and adults. The Instructor will survey the catechism, explore strategies for teaching selected sections and provide examples of effective techniques.

Presenter: Rev. Dr. Anita Gould, Agape A.M.E.

The Rev. Dr. Anita J. Gould is the Pastor of Agape AME. Dr. Gould evolved as a leader in the ministry of discipleship development. She has traveled to equip the saints for the work of the church, as an instructor of “Identifying and Developing Your Spiritual Gifts” for classes and workshops engaging pastors and leaders of congregations. She is the founder of New Freedom Ministries, LLC, exercises her gifts as a Discernment Advocate, designing and conducting training experiences which restore spiritual vitality in individuals and congregations as they discover their God-given purpose. A graduate of DC Public Schools, Morgan State (College) University – BS Degree in Education; Howard University School of Divinity – M. Div.; and Wesley Theological Seminary – D. Min. Program for Church Leadership Excellence. She is grateful to be “enabled by Him who IS able” (Eph. 3:20).

Tips for Teaching in the Virtual Environment

Participants will have a brief overview of how to teach effectively in a virtual setting. Instructor will suggest tools to plan virtual classes effectively, teach with clarity while controlling and encouraging feedback, and how to create engaging tasks, as well as offer tips for beginners.

Presenter: Rev. Keithlyn Warner, St. Mark A.M.E.

The Reverend Keithlyn S. Warner was born in Trinidad and Tobago. In 1886, he graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Science. In 2001, he graduated from Payne Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. Rev. Warner is currently on staff at Saint Mark AME Church, Oxon Hill Md. Rev. Warner is actively involved in technological training for the community. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Spiritual Disciplines for Teachers

Participants will get a brief overview of the Nature of the Spiritual Disciplines; The Purpose of the Spiritual Disciplines; The Process of the Spiritual Disciplines; and The Product of the Spiritual Disciplines. Instructor will discuss the Inward, Outward and Corporate Disciplines according to Richard Foster’s or Adele Calhoun’s book.

Presenter: Rev. Aaron Myers, Sr., Gaines Chapel A.M.E.

Reverend Aaron D. Myers Sr. Is the first gentleman at Gaines Chapel AME Church and serves with His wife Pastor Karen A. Myers. As part of his ministerial duties, he serves as Christian Ed. Director and head of the men’s ministry. Rev. Myers has been teaching discipleship for many years. His knowledge of the various disciplines we practice for a closer fellowship with God has marked his walk of faith! His love for the discipline of nurturing others plays a key role in leading the Class Leaders at Gaines Chapel AMEC and his part of a prison ministry that saves and feeds the souls of the inmates through worship and the preached Word of God! His favorite scripture is 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
