A trip we would have never forgotten and still won’t forget because we never went.

The Central Australia trip is a significant adventure in any students journey at John Paul College. It’s a trip that sees Year 11 students tackle the red dirt and humidity for a once in a lifetime opportunity to the Red Centre. The Class of 2021 encountered many challenges when trying to embark on this journey. In Year 11 the trip was cancelled because of COVID - 19. Unfortunately, in Year 12 despite the College’s best efforts to organise another trip, COVID once again prevented these students from adventuring to Central Oz.

YEAR 7 Iqbal

by Francesco D’Adamo

Really sad book. Easy to read. Helped us appreciate our lives.

YEAR 8 Rapunzel’s Revenge

by Shannon and Dean Hale

Wasn’t boring. Rapunzel saved the day. Lots of pictures which was great.

The Book Thief

by Markus Zusak

Interesting. Was written from the perspective of death which was unique. Gave an insight into life during World War 2.

YEAR 9 Rich & Rare

Edited by Paul Collins

SO SO bad. At least the stories were short. Pretty sure we only read one story from the whole book.

Romeo and Juliet Insight

by Shane Barnes and Aidan Coleman

At least we didn’t have to try and interpret the play. The book did it for us. Leonardo Di Caprio in the movie was the best bit.

YEAR 10 Jasper Jones

by Craig Silvey

His mum was mean. He lived a rough life. We felt sorry for him. #chaliza4eva

Lord of the Flies

by William Golding

What even was this monstrosity? We all hated reading it. Movie was all right. Killed the only nice person. Spark notes was the only reason we passed. #sparknotespulledthrough #RIPPiggy 0/5 STARS

YEAR 11

The Longest Memory

by Fred D’Aguiar

Sad book. Easy to read and was short. Gave an insight into slavery in America. #wehateSanderssenior #chaliza4eva

Tracks

by Robyn Davidson

The book was set in Australia, we got to watch ‘Into The Wild’. Highlight of the book was the camels.

Macbeth

by William Shakespeare

Was actually good. Way better to read than Romeo and Juliet. We thought English was for reading books. Not reading plays.

YEAR 12 Like a House on Fire

by Cate Kennedy

They were short. Interesting topics.

The Golden Age

by Joan London

Sort of interesting. Storyline didn’t develop that much. At least we learnt a lot about polio in Australia. Should’ve channelled Albert and ran away from the book. Sister Penny lived a good romantic life.

Ransom

by David Malouf

Mixed reviews. Some people hated it and found it painful to read. Others like that it was different and unique, and written in a poetic way. But one thing we can all agree on, is that none of us will ever read it again.
