Master of Arts in Communication
Health Communication Concentration
Learn the skills you need to become a catalyst in the health sector. About the Program Health communication professionals serve a critical role in today’s society. They are part of a select group of communicators skilled at turning complicated health and medical information into digestible content and campaigns that improve dialogue between consumers, health care providers, policymakers, and scientists. These skills also serve to help average citizens understand health issues, make better informed decisions, and advance health causes for the common good. The Health Communication Concentration at Johns Hopkins University’s Washington, DC Center equips students with the skills necessary to compete in this growing and dynamic field. Students study how to select and understand target audiences; create messages based on behavior-change theories and best practices; launch, manage, and evaluate public information campaigns; and communicate with diverse audiences. At JHU, we recognize that health communication is a private- and publicsector endeavor performed in many different settings. The Master of Arts in Communication Program offers students the flexibility to take electives from all of our concentrations to make sure their coursework suits their unique professional needs. In addition to health communication, we offer coursework in public and media relations, political communication, digital technologies, and corporate and nonprofit communication.
