Assignment 2 MAP TO JOURNAL

OBJECTIVES This assignments’ objectives included fostering an understanding for the world around us, and communicating our findings through a visually appealing narrative.

REFLECTION Having completed and thought about this assignment, I understand the importance of concise communication between individuals. While I find that keeping to a consistent layout and using icons/callouts ultimately helped my work, I find that a consistent layout works better with more visually interesting imagery.

Assignment 3 LETTERFORM SEQUENCE

Baskerville Italic

OBJECTIVES To explore typographic forms in detail to create a sequence that suggests action or movement. Also, to take conventional letterforms and display them at large scales.

Assignment 4 ANIMAL STENCIL

OBJECTIVES To comprehend and modify positive and negative space, conduct research and perform iterations, and present process and clearly developed ideas.

REFLECTION While my final product ended up depicting an understanding of positive and negative space, I know now that expansive ideation and documentation are crucial to more conceptually stable works.

Assignment 6

USER SCENARIO

OBJECTIVES To use master pages and grids to arrange a consisten grid layout for a story that follows a user through a problem that someone with our buzz word -- “security” may face.

REFLECTION The master pages were used creatively to show the ow of a text conversation with a man and a hacker, but the narrative is a little lacking in depth and hurts the assignment.

Assignment 7 MOVIE POSTER

OBJECTIVES To gain and exhibit a pro ciency with dobe In esign, hotoshop, and Illustrator. lso, to gain appreciation for light, texture, and layering as techni ues to generate visual interest.

REFINEMENT

REFLECTION y final poster did a nice ob of laying out information and accomplished my goal of being a simple way to compare and contrast. To stimulate more visual interest, The poster could use a focal point to add visual interest and to make it dynamic.

Assignments 1 & 2 BOXES & CYLINDERS

OBJECTIVES To understand and use two point perspective to create boxes and cylinders and arrange many of them in an interesting composition.

Assignment 3 SPHERE, TORUS, ETC.

OBJECTIVES To understand how to sketch tori and spheres from observation arrange many of them in an interesting composition.

Assignment 4 100 DRAWINGS

OBJECTIVES To practice sketching and iteration in a quick manner.

REFLECTION This pro ect re ects an important turning point in my pre-design career. I struggled with finding the confidence to sketch more complex forms. I learned the importance of iteration in the refinement of sketches, but also the importance of being quick when generating ideas.

Assignment 5 SENSORIAL INTERIOR

OBJECTIVES To explore and be inspired by the interior spaces of the hio nion, making observations within the space that tie them to one of the five senses.

after

REFLECTION For my submission for this assignment, I stepped outside of my comfort zone by creating a prototype application the display the art of the nion, divided by the sense I felt they best depicted. owever, I feel that I didn’t visualize as much as the assignment asked for.

REFLECTION My biggest improvement with this assignment was coming up with many di erent ideas and refining the ones that I liked. I struggled with perfecting material choice and craft, as it was my first time constructing with bristol and chip board. Overall I believe the final forms are strong in concept, but could use better craftsmanship.

Assignment 7 VISUAL NARRATIVE

OBJECTIVES To rethink the original treasure from A1 in 2110 to create a narrative that re ects a greater learning and understanding of the design process.

SKETCHES AND NOTES

PROCESS This assignment was a lengthy process that went through many variations and styles. Many of these changes were made digitally, and in the future I plan to improve documentation of digital process in physical form via printing.

FINAL IMAGES

REFLECTION I felt this was a strong representation of the lessons I learned in 2310. With ideating through sketching. I didn’t stray from the original concept too much, but my biggest gripe with the original was how unfinished it looked. Although this game isn’t playable, it feels much more harmonious with the story it tells.

Assignment 1 COMPOSITIONAL TRANSFORMATION

OBJECTIVES To use the elements and principles of design to create a visually interesting extension of an interior space. lso, to show a visual transition from to , and also static to dynamic.

PROCESS AND DEVELOPMENT

PROTOTYPES

REFLECTION With this assignment I learned the importance of prototyping in figuring out a transition between and , and also in making a static ob ect appeal dynamic. I refined my installation following submission and criti ue and changed the pattern from checkered to an pattern from arrow-es ue shapes that harmoni e with the pyramids.

Assignment 2 FACE OFF

OBJECTIVES To expand upon the essense of an inital duality to improve or augment some part of the body in a meaningful and visually interesting way. lso, using only planar materials and one structuaral material.

REFLECTION This pro ect fell around the same time as some important family events, and inspired my decision to represent the family using a mix of lines and shapes. We make close connections within our own home as a form, but much like our neural network, there are many links and ties to other lines and shapes. While this came at a hard time for myself, I still did my very best to bring the most I am capable of to the table.

Assignment 3 GIFTING DESIGN

OBJECTIVES To design a gift and its packaging for an upper class design student using no more than three materials, placing emphasis on hierarchy, scale, and positive and negative space.

Assignment 1 STORYBOARD & COLOR KEYS

OBJECTIVES To use color and camera angles and positioning/movement to create a narrative based ona shel silverstein poem.

Bird’s eye/Zoom Shot: starts all the way out from outer space, and zooms into a ->

Full shot of the yard sale sign, the sun is just beginning to rise over the horizon

Close Up: Sister runs outside and down the steps of the front porch, crying

¾ Angle of brother following out the same door after her, look of anger in his eyes.

Extreme Close up/ Canted: Runs behind her and grabs her wrist abruptly

Track: follow shot as brother takes sister to podium to be sold

Worm’s eye: Between the sister’s feet we can see a spotlight shining onto her.

Close Up brother yelling out prices super loud into a megaphone, very angry.

Long shot: people are getting confused and beginning to walk across the street

Dolly: Mom turns the corner and runs towards the sun as the camera walks to her to emphasize the her face.

Parent View: Mom scolding son as he sits on his well-made bed, the calander on the wall marked

Assignment 2 CHARACTER DESIGN

OBJECTIVES TO create a backstory that inspires a character with an artifact and environment in which they live.

I made these logos in an e ort to represent myself as VC applicant, but the implimentation of them into my final imagery was slightly lacking. They could be emphasized more if i want them to be shown o , which I don t think would hurt.

Assignment 3 ANALOG GAME DESIGN

OBJECTIVES To design a an analog game that is fun and exhibits a strong narrative that drives the mechanics, story, and aesthetics.

IDEATION We went through many ideas before settling on Hornswaggle, but our initial ideas involved vertical boards that took players through all 11 levels of Thompson Library, climbing mountains, or trying to get into the design program at OSU.

GAME INSTRUCTIONS

REFLECTION This was my most proud piece of work i submitted this year. The visual identity of the game feels very unified with its minimal use of color and consistent use of fonts and textures. I feel as if more time could’ve been put towards making more modifications to the mechanics, but players of the game did not find them to be a problem.
