You’ve already accomplished a great deal. With the wide range of graduate programs we offer, your options going forward are as open as your potential.
As one of the first colleges founded by two women, Gertrude I. Johnson and Mary T. Wales, JWU offers a progressive approach to learning — it’s at our core. Since 1914, our goal has been for students to make the most of their time here — to bring out their potential and turn it into a career. What began as a business school has since become known not only for culinary and hospitality expertise, but for cultivating a supportive environment where students and faculty work together to bring out the best in each other. We continue to evolve as we apply our passion and knowledge to everything we teach, from undergraduate to graduate and doctoral programs. Through education that instills a love of learning to industry connections that put that love into practice, we work by your side to turn your passion into a life.

PUT TING KNOWLEDGE
TO WORK Saying Tod Nissle ’17 MBA knows how to manage people would be an understatement. In his position with Compass Group North America, he oversees nearly 3,000 employees and contractors. His JWU MBA, Nissle says, has deepened his management skills and insights. “We looked at a lot of peer-reviewed case studies — the educational truisms that validate why we do what we do,” he notes. “In an organizational behavior class, we learned about the two-factor theory and that pay does not lead to long-term employee satisfaction. It can remove dissatisfaction. However, it’s elements such as recognition, status, challenge, growth, etc. that can lead to higher employee satisfaction.” He’s used this knowledge to motivate Compass employees in servicing their accounts, including one of their largest: Microsoft, in Redmond, Washington. Compass was challenged to provide a dining experience that could enhance work life at Microsoft, keeping employees on the campus and satisfying their taste buds. Nissle helped develop several solutions to this problem. One was to install a variety of restaurants on campus, some of which rotate pop-up style. “Building a place where people stay on campus builds productivity,” he says, “so we have autonomous 24-hour markets that don’t require staffing.” “There are such inspiring leaders [at Microsoft] and the cultural diversity is greater than you’d see in New York City,” he adds. “I really feel like I’m part of something.”

That’s why we provide each student with a financial planner to guide you through the process of financing higher education. Here you’ll get in-person financial counseling, education, and strategies to make attending JWU financially possible. If you’re ready to work with us, we’ll work for you. As a domestic graduate student, you can apply for student loans by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can complete this process online at fafsa.gov. JWU’s FAFSA code is 003404. Have you served in the military? JWU participates in the Yellow Ribbon program, which means you may be eligible for education benefits through the GI Bill. Let us know if you think you might qualify. Johnson & Wales has educational partnerships with many companies which offer tuition discounts. Check with your HR department to see if they’re already a partner with JWU, or offer their own tuition reimbursement.
