With its close proximity to the beautiful rolling Yorkshire countryside; this tour has all the ingredients for a truly memorable holiday.

Your Holiday Itinerary

Sunday A scenic drive north through the rolling hills and moorlands of the Peak District, where we pause for a suitable lunch-stop en-route before arriving in Harrogate for our 4-night stay. Monday This morning we make our way to RHS Garden Harlow Carr – a stunning 68-acre garden with contemporary & herbaceous borders, streamside and scented gardens, alpine zone, kitchen garden and woodland walks. Plant centre, shops and Betty’s Tearooms are some of the facilities available. Free time at leisure in Harrogate during the afternoon. Tuesday A full day excursion to the historic city of York. Upon arrival, we include a 60-minute open-top bus tour, so relax whilst your guide shows you all the amazing sights around York’s historic centre. In the afternoon free time for sightseeing and shopping, but there is so much to see you will have to be selective? The majestic Minster, the old Roman walls, the Shambles, the Jorvik Centre and the National Railway Museum are all worth considering. Wednesday Today, we visit Ripley Castle. This impressive 700-year-old castle is located in the beautiful village of Ripley close to Harrogate. We include a guided tour with plenty of extra time for lunch and to explore the walled gardens, lakeside walk, pleasure grounds and deer park. Afterwards we continue to Ripon - the third smallest city in the UK, home to Ripon Cathedral and former home to the famous author Lewis Carroll. The stunning interior of the cathedral inspired many of Lewis Carroll’s characters in Alice in Wonderland and is located just around the corner from the marketplace. Thursday Departing our hotel we journey via the National Coal Mining Museum - Travel 140 metres underground down into one of Britain’s oldest working mines - This unusual and fully accessible experience will offer a genuine insight into the hardworking lives of miners throughout the ages. Here, we pause for lunch, prior to returning home during the early evening.

Your Holiday Itinerary

Monday We travel north with a suitable stop for lunch en-route before arriving at our hotel for our 4-night stay. Tuesday A morning visit to ‘Locomotion’ in Shildon, a branch of the National Railway Museum, which contains many historic and interesting exhibits, locomotives and more, before continuing to Durham City, where there is free time to explore this medieval city’s cobbled streets, packed with history, culture and stunning architecture, including the magnificent castle and cathedral. Wednesday We visit Raby Castle and Gardens, home to Lord Barnard’s family since 1626. One of the finest medieval Castles in England the gardens are a mix of traditional 18th century ornamental Walled Gardens, Yew Hedges, Trees, Plants and Ornaments. We continue deep into the North Pennines to Barnard Castle where we visit the Bowes Museum – an important collection of treasures including fine art, ceramics, textiles and dress. Thursday We drive via Escomb Village, to admire the hidden little gem of Escomb Saxon Church, considered one of the finest 7th century churches in the country before visiting the Auckland Project - a brand new visitor destination in Bishop Auckland, with Auckland Castle as its centrepiece. Located in and around the 900-year-old Prince Bishop’s Castle, we will discover a thousand years of history on our visit which perfectly combines art, history and the outdoors. Friday Departing our hotel after breakfast, we commence our journey homeward bound.

Saturday A morning visit to explore the captivating city of Durham with its winding, cobbled streets, by the dramatic Durham Cathedral and Castle World Heritage Site – one of the most stunning city panoramas in Europe. Following an early dinner at the hotel, we make our way to Auckland Castle for the show. As dusk turns to darkness, Kynren takes you on a spellbinding voyage through history, myth and legend. Sunday Today, we visit Beamish Open-Air Museum – a living museum which tells the story of life in North East England in Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian times. Monday A leisurely drive homeward arriving home during the afternoon.
