Sunday Travelling east we head to Stamford, where you are free to explore this interesting town, before continuing to our hotel in West Norfolk in the afternoon. Monday After a leisurely breakfast we visit Houghton Hall. With its domed corner towers, this is one of the finest Palladian-style houses in England, built in 1735 for Robert Walpole, Britain’s first Prime Minister. Its sumptuous Stone Hall, Marble Parlour, Cabinet Room and Salon are just some of the rooms to explore, all lavishly endowed with pictures and fine furniture. Free time in Kings Lynn in the afternoon. Tuesday On the stunning north Norfolk coast, surrounded by rolling parkland, lies Holkham Hall. This Palladian-style stately home is a treasure trove with incredible architecture, art, original furniture and classical statuary. The collection includes works by Rubens, Van Dyck and Gainsborough. A Cream Tea is included during our visit. Wednesday Located just six miles from our hotel, we discover Sandringham House & Gardens. This estate is the much-loved Norfolk retreat of her Majesty the Queen. The magnificent stately house is set in 24 hectares of stunning landscaped gardens with a museum that is home to an extraordinary collection of memorabilia. Thursday Today we visit Oxburgh Hall (NT) – a moated manor house with a Tudor gatehouse with displays of embroideries by Mary Queen of Scots and Bess of Hardwick. Later we visit Downham Market, an old market town, located on the banks of the River Ouse. Friday Returning home, we visit Peckover House (NT) - an elegant Georgian town house overlooking the River Nene. Built in 1722, the house has some fine interiors with panelled walls and fine Georgian fireplaces. Outside, the gardens are outstanding and include an orangery, summerhouses, croquet lawn and rose garden with over 60 varieties of rose.
