2024 Junior Golf Program

Total Golf Wednesdays OBJECTIVES Our objective for this year’s program is to teach children and teens relevant skills and techniques used in the game of golf. They will develop an understanding of the rules, etiquette, and social skills necessary for golf and life away from the green. We want the participants to experience success, build self-esteem, and have fun. STAFF & VOLUNTEERS The professional golf staff will oversee the basic operation of the weekly activities, including tournaments, clinics, camps, etc. The professional staff consists of: Mike Zeeman, PGA, Director of Golf Jesse Hackett, PGA, Head Golf Professional We will need 50+ volunteers to keep the program running smoothly. The volunteer duties consist of walking with juniors as they play, monitoring activities for etiquette and safety, providing transportation around the golf course, and other duties that may arise on the golf course. To volunteer, please contact Jesse at jhackett@marylandgcc.org ELIGIBILITY Total Golf Wednesdays is open to any child of any club member, ages seven to seventeen. Junior Golf Code of Conduct CODE OF CONDUCT Arrive at the course 15 minutes before your scheduled time. All juniors must carry their own bag; push carts are allowed. Juniors are responsible for playing the game in accordance with the rules of golf. Juniors must conduct themselves properly at all times. Note: Conduct such as throwing clubs, using profanity, failure to replace divots, repair ball marks, or rake bunkers will not be tolerated. The first offense is a warning; the second offense will result in a meeting with the junior, their parent(s), and the Junior Golf Chairman. Serious breaches of conduct may result in suspension from the program. DRESS CODE Proper golf attire must always be maintained, including while on the driving range, putting green, and all other practice areas. Shirts must be collared and tucked in, and caps must have the brim forward. No jeans, tank tops, short shorts, or cutoffs. PACE OF PLAY - PLAY WITHOUT DELAY Always keep up with the group ahead of you. Select your club and be ready to play play-ready golf if possible. If you or your group fall behind, pick up the pace. Slower groups should let faster groups play through. Limit your practice swings to one or two, and try not to take a divot with your practice swings. Leave extra clubs near the flagstick so you don’t forget them. Do not waste time between holes. To avoid a lost ball, watch where it stops and walk directly to it. When the course is busy, do not hit extra shots on the course. Lead by example. If your group is slow, speak to your fellow players.

Etiquette & Safety Proper etiquette must always be practiced. Replace divots, rake bunkers, and fix ball marks on the putting surface. Do not hit until the group in front of you is out of range. Do not move around or make noise while others are playing. Stand in the appropriate place while others are playing. Do not walk in front of other players when they are hitting. Leave golf bags off the putting surfaces. Do not drop flagstick on the green. Do not do anything that may cause damage to the golf course. Always record and verify scores after leaving the green after each hole. Scorecards must be signed by the player and the marker. Always loudly declare “FORE” if a ball is struck toward anyone on the course or practice area.
