Spring/Summer 2014 Trend pack
1
Welcome to the Spring/Summer 2014 Trend Pack for Heritage by John Lewis. This pack has been put together with the intention to guide designers and buyers for the new 2014 Heritage Collection to the key trend directions for Spring/Summer 2014, and should be adapted to suit the individual style and target market for the range. The season sees a mix of colour, print and texture come together to form three strong, versatile trends which can be translated into any product category and carry the consumer comfortably and fashionably through each season.

delicate pastels A confection of pastel shades appeared on the Spring/ Summer ‘14 catwalks, and is sure to trickle down to the high street to form this season’s biggest trend. Elegance and sophistication replace the ‘cute and girly’ aesthetic that we’re used to seeing with pastels, with these key colours best translated onto spring essentials such as the pencil skirt and midi circle skirt, with a contrasting simple boxy tee to break up the colours.

Viscose, Rayon, Modal, Polyester, Lyocell, Silk, Cotton,
Slightly textured lightweight fabrics with good drape are key for flattering tops and shirts.
Raw stripes
Thicker slouchy fabrics will increase comfort and ease in casual pieces such as the t-shirt dress.
Fabrics with detail and texture such as lace will need to be comfortable and easy care with a durable lining.
Roughly stacked colour stripes are explored in flamed linen and irregular twist-yarn cotton knits, 14 ŠWGSN 2013

floral infusion Spring florals never go out of fashion and can be worn by women of all ages for a fun, feminine look. Floral Infusion is about telling a story through a print whilst creating a personality, and will be a key trend for the Heritage Collection to adopt in order to promote the original, heritage aesthetic. Key colours play a big a part in this trend, although the prints take centre stage. Bold block colours will be essential for breaking up and contrasting with the printed pieces.

Fitted at the waist and flaring out at the hips, this dress is perfect for flattering the figure. A floral print makes the dress suitable for elegant daywear.
The simple and classic slip dress returns again in Spring/Summer, updated with fun bold prints.
25
Viscose, Polyester, Lyocell, Silk, linen, Cotton jersey,
Slightly draped fabrics will make prints look more full and fluid on tops and dresses.
26
Flexible thicker fabrics improve the shape and fit of pieces like the skater dress which need slight structure to flatter the figure.
Lightweight sheer fabrics give fluidity and drape to styles which need to hang off the body such as the slip dress.
27
Berries and cream With typically autumnal tones, Berry brings a new fresh fruity twist to Spring/ Summer 2014, with fun prints and rich colours matched with contrasting neutrals. A more flattering, classic trend with wearable colours and shapes, and less of a focus on the bold colours and prints we’re used to seeing in Spring. This colour will easily bring the wearer through various seasons.

The oversized shirt is great for the transition between a winter wardrobe to a spring one. Great for layering and using to create a more tailored, put together look. 37
Scuba, Polyester, Wool, sILK, Linen, COTTON.
This season’s boxy shapes look best in structured, flexible fabrics such as scuba.
38
Sheer, iridescent fabrics such as organza are great for layering and making darker colours stand out.
Natural stiff fabrics work well for this season’s tailored styles. Linen and viscose update pieces such as the slim trouser for a cool summer style.
