Welcome I am delighted to welcome you to the University’s Learning and Teaching Festival taking place between the 7th and 17th June 2016. The Festival will formally launch with the Learning and Teaching Conference, followed by a varied programme of events supporting different aspects of learning and teaching. Events are taking place at both Chichester and Bognor Regis campuses, and a number are being repeated at each site to help

UK Professional Standards Framework(UKPSF) The UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) helps us focus our professional development in university learning and teaching. We use it to plan the University’s staff development programme so that our events encompass all of the areas of activity, core knowledge and professional values that form the Framework’s Dimensions of Practice. This session evaluates an approach to teaching and assessment that deviates from the norm in business schools. It assesses graduating students’ experiences with a vocational degree – BA (Hons) Event Management at a post 1992 university in the United Kingdom.The methodology was eclectic and underpinned by an interpretivist philosophy with three (3) graduating cohorts of 2012/13/14 participating in the research. The findings suggest that the majority of students were satisfied with the overall degree outcomes; however, the learning trajectory from induction to graduation included consternation, anxiety and fear about the transition to university life and the contents of the course. Frustrations over group work, client idiosyncrasies including the fact that event management is hard work was perceived negatively by students and as flaws within the university and client organisations. These sessions provides an opportunity for colleagues to share views on how best to approach the employability agenda.

The old adage that “you get what you pay for” seems increasingly outdated in the age of free technologies that provide real value. Like Google’s free tools and all the main social media platforms, Skype is one more free and infinitely useful tool that educators can add to their toolbox.

The aim of this session is to consider what are the key ingredients of module design that will underpin student engagement. The session will look at how to write clear learning outcomes and related assessment criteria. It will also offer ideas on wider approaches to learning, teaching and assessment, and opportunities presented by technology enhanced learning, and the supporting use of Moodle. As part of the session colleagues will have the opportunity to plan a new module or consider enhancements to an existing one.

Assessment and feedback is an area where Universities under perform in the NSS. Reflecting on an area of work with Business Studies students looking at specific NSS questions, the aim of this session is to explore practical ways of enhancing assessment and feedback. Consideration will be given to key areas such as the role of assessment criteria, approaches to feedback and feeding forward, and emerging opportunities for online marking.

Manufacturers including NEC, Crestron and Dalen TopTech will be displaying a range of AV technology and furniture including laser projection, large format screens, wireless presentation systems, digital dignage solutions, workspace and teaching furniture, glass boards and audio solutions. This will help inform AV installation choices being made for current building projects and the upcoming Technology Park on BRC.
