STUDIO SIX TACTICAL URBANISM
Studio Six, We were asked to approach a social or environmental issue using a tactical approach. This project looks to challenge Auckland Cites perception of open space, specifically shared streets asking: How could a tactical approach using multimedia intervention be utilised to resurrect Auckland’s backstreet laneways? - Looking to use Durham St West to test my intervention with the design media school around its corner. The question was tackled through the process of 5 interventions, using nature and awareness as a recurring theme and approach. Each intervention would envelop or evolve from the previous, further provoking the public subconscious to tackle an everyday norm and help make them aware of the space around them. From physical object interventions to sensory visuals or sounds the design progressed to encourage the use of multimedia as a direct response within Durham St. This led to the designs final interventions where people were asked to choose an environment by the use of WiFi off of their phones then each of the spaces would be changed to the favoured environment. Ideally to stimulate the subconscious as a means to temporarily “be away from the city whilst still in it.”

STUDIO SEVEN THE SOUTHERN INITIATIVE Studio Seven, looked at Aucklands increasing growth, and the southern initiative. Investigating the Otahuhu precinct and its disconnection of its residential dominated east side and economy driven west side caused by the State Highway which ran right through it. The design sought the opportunity to reconnect the town through a coastal boardwalk that ran through the edge of Tamaki River and through the revitalisation of the Old Portage connection. The boardwalk would be a mix of different materials, texture and contours to provide a more natural passage, environments and as well programs that fit right through and within the Otahuhu community. Focusing solely more into the redevelopment and restoration of the Old Portage Link. Perspectives show the re-envisioning of the Portage Link and Materials, textures, contours and settings program how the linear park, or any other part of the design could affectively contribute to Otahuhu and Aucklands looking to restore its “thriving, safe community.

NEGOTIATED STUDY BLURRING LANDSCAPE AND ARCHITECTURE Our final years negotiated project looks to investigate an interest we have within Landscape Architecture. Mine: the blurring of Architecture and Landscape two accompanying disciplines that focus’ on the designing of spaces both inside and out. Lead me to question: How could the interweaving of the natural and built form coherently provide a better environmental, social, ecological and economic future for our world? I looked at some case studies and was luckily given the opportunity to design the landscaping of Unitecs new campus. A very ecological and environmentally sensitive site, I focused on Unitecs relationship to Auckland in a macro, meso and micro scale. Directing me to think that the quality of landscape lay in the characters of Unitecs topography. Unfortunately hidden by layers of infrastructure and architecture. A draft plan by Occulus has been drawn showing slight contradiction in my thinking, a grid structure defining a rational response to our human physiology helping locate and direct to places by the use of axis and linear layouts. Through mapping analysis I have overlaid elements of hydrology, public space and infrastructure, etc to show opportunities that were overseen and as well as those neglected by Occulus proposal. I look to develop a strategy and compare and contrast in detail the difference and effects of my findings with the existing Occulus draft. This is where I am currently with my project, but I hope to design a solution where I could effectively sustain the institution and create a positive well-being approach to the Unitec community and ecology.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BLURRING THE BOUNDARIES BETWEEN LANDSCAPE AND ARCHITECTURE? QUESTION
“Our idea for the Google campus is really to give it the diversity, the liveliness that you find in an urban neighbourhood. So that a lot of the traditional distinction in an urban setting or office environment will have evaporated or atleast been blurred significantly” (Youtube:Googles Proposal for North Bayshore Ingles 2015).
“The C3 House is designed to be visually unobtrusive and environmentally sensitive. Designed using ocal stones in Gabion Baskets, local renewable timber, and rammed earth construction in order to limit the use of steel, cement and glass” (Inhabitat: RTA Studio Carbon Home” 2015).

“Understanding the rural heritage space, as more than simply a place to preserve, and whatever existing topography as part of an inescapable memory. Coupled with the belief that all public space is generated through use. We propose the conversion of two areas of different times and occupation in one new urban space” (Landezine: Enviromental Recovery of the Fortress
