Why fear and anxiety are stopping you from starting your business.

We’ve all be been struck by fear or anxiety at some time in our lives. Fear from our past experiences and anxiety for the future can leave us in a constant state procrastination. If you want to start a business from home but cannot overcome you fear and anxiety then it’s going to be a long road.

Remember that what you want lies beyond your comfort zone Our fear from past experiences can have a big impact on the actions we take later life. It’s our minds natural instinct to protect us from danger and when we initially say to ourselves “I want to start a business from home ” our fear begins to take over and we go into survival mode. We think of our past failed experiences and use them as examples of why we can’t succeed. When you experience this don’t see these past experiences as reasons why you can’t succeed, see them as experiences you can learn from to help you succeed in the future. Fear is just your minds way of preventing you from stepping outside your comfort zone. Staying where you are is safe and comfortable but comfortable won’t get you what you want. You need to acknowledge your fear, see it for what it is and don’t let it prevent you from taking the actions you need to start your own business. Remember, every successful person has failed at some point along their journey, but the difference being that successful people learn from their failures and keep moving forward. What you want lies beyond your comfort zone. Whenever you feel fear don’t shy away from it, move towards it because what you want lies in the direction of what you fear most.

I said to myself two months ago “I want to start a business from home” and decided to do this with the “Six Figure Mentors”. I’ve gone through many moments where fear and anxiety have nearly got the better of me, but I have always failed forward and not gone backwards. 1/3

Failure at some point is inevitable; it’s how you respond that will determine if you’re successful.

I want to start a business from home but I’m anxious it won’t work out

Your anxiety for the future will also have a big influence on the actions you take when starting your new business. What if things don’t work out, what if I put in all this effort and I don’t get the results I want? If this is your mindset before you even begin your new journey then I would recommend you spend some time working on your mindset before starting. You need to ask yourself the reasons why you want to start your own business. Do you want to spend more time with your family, gain more financial freedom or to follow your dreams? You need to connect with your “WHY”. Why are you doing this, what is your purpose? If this is strong enough it will enable you to overcome your anxiety and keep moving forwards because your “WHY” is bigger, more important than the anxiety you feel for the future. Everyone is anxious about the future to some degree, but you should be more anxious at the thought of not trying, of mediocrity and of looking back one year from now and being in exactly the same place.

I wish all of you success in starting your new business, like me you are stepping outside of our comfort zone in pursuit of a better life for yourself. That in itself is a great sign of courage and is more than most people will ever do. Take some time to appreciate that. I recently looked up the definition of an entrepreneur and it stated “an entrepreneur is someone who is willing to take higher risk for potential greater reward later on” Make no mistake if you start a business from home then you’re an entrepreneur and you need to start thinking like one. I know it’s not easy but you need to be comfortable with the uncertainty if you decide “I want to start a business from home”

I hope you have found this post helpful? It’s always nice to connect with like-minded people who are on the same journey.

About Jonathan Petrou Hi everyone, I'm 32 years old and currently living in Berlin. I'm originally from London and arrived in Berlin via Amsterdam where i spent four great years of my life. l moved to Berlin with my girlfriend for a new adventure. New city, new apartment & new jobs. After arriving in Berlin I had what you might say was a "Wake Up Call". Realising the career I was trying to create for myself was not what I wanted, not something i was passionate about. I was really not happy and finding my new life in Berlin very hard going. I decided to draw a line in the sand and made a commitment to myself that I was going to make some changes. Find my purpose, my passion and make some changes, but most importantly not allow myself to return to the place that had made me so unhappy. So... I"m now trying to make some big changes in my life and as I do this I would like to motivate and inspire people to do the same. This is the reason for the my blog. Change is hard at the best of times, people need support, so as I grow, learn and make progress i want to share my experiences in the hope of helping others do the same.
