ASSIGNMENT 1 Living House
The Plus Plus Doesn’t Equal Plus Minus House transforms the established language of the terrace house and gets its name from the way that it approaches the issues where a terrace house traditionally has a positive front and a negative rear. It seeks to make both ends of the house facilitators of positive effects throughout the design. It addresses three key ideas: light; the contrast between old and new; and making more with less. The house facilitates everyday family activities and seeks to become a house that is loved by the people who occupy it over generations. It adapts to its changing conditions in that the front bedroom transforms into an office, sliding doors provide accessibility for the elderly and a child space opens onto multiple green spaces, and the kitchen extends into the hallway. In the post-design process, I have corrected issues with kitchen placement, planning and bathroom layouts.

The solar analysis scripts analysed solar irradiance, as well as shadow, based on the location of the Pavillion and weather data. A bubble called ‘sun angles’ was found on-line as a pre-programmed Python script which would accurately inform the rest of my solar analyis script based on the input weather and location data. The insulation analysis was achieved by baking a mesh input from which several thousand vectors would input for the calculation of insolation against each side of the Pavillion. A gradient function was finally used to visually represent the solar irradiation of the structure.
