Quietly American BY AARONSANTOS These photographs are simple descriptions of a complex American landscape. They are fragmented views of everyday scenes. I have always been interested in the relationship between people and their surroundings, in how we all leave our mark on the world, in whatever small or seemingly inconsequential way. The photographs here are a concise narrative of those obstructions.

Self-Portraits #1 Eleven subjects. Eleven portraits. But whom have the photographs captured? BY JONGCHULLEE I like to photograph people. It is exciting to meet new people, learn about them, and listen to them. I try to understand their world of thoughts, feelings, and activities and capture that world in one symbolic image. In these portraits, i tried to photograph the stories of my subjects. Shooting portraits is a process of trying to capture the essence of the subject. I look for something unique in my subjects, something that defines who they are. But whom do the photographs really depict? One day I realized that by photographing other people, I was actually photographing myself! I understand the stories of others through my own experience. I understand their emotion through my emotions, and their thoughts through my thoughts. I press the shutter at the command of my karma. I thought I was capturing the stories of other people, but I was actually creating stories of myself. These images are self-portraits – of 11 different subjects.

moving on.. BY AARONMCELROY Steve is a survivor. He has been living with AIDS for 20 years, one of the consequences of the drug addiction he has overcome. Much of Steve's days have been a struggle but he is making a better future for himself. Recovery from decades of drug use is part of his new life's routine. Since becoming clean he has completed his GED and is now attending UMass. He is an undergraduate attending classes with students much younger, but like him, are starting out in life for the first time. Steve is moving on, but he will never escape from his past. He pursues his dreams while carrying the burden of his regret; the joy of starting new things is colored by a constant twinge of self-doubt; the feelings of health and vitality are the result of a daily ritual of medication and incessant medical visits. Everyday is enriched as he continues to bravely face these challenges. Steve is surviving everyday- living with his past.

The Tourists/The Pilgrims #1 BY YOAVHORESH What the social functions of tourist photography? Why do tourists take photographs when they are on holiday? How much are these photographs about reflecting their real experiences? What are vacation photos for, and what role do they play in preserving our memories for the future? The small possible glimpse into people’s own family albums and lives led me to travel and photograph in well known tourist attractions and locations in Paris. I photographed the tourists I encountered there in a very similar way to how they would pose for their own albums. Such photographs not only confirm that the photographer and company were in a particular place taking photographs, but also aim to capture the state of pleasure that this activity entailed. Smiling for the camera is a way of signifying this happy state to future viewers. These photographs were made in two sites located across from each other: The Eiffel Tower and Trocadero.
