M I S F I T HOUSE 2015-2016 Fall Term
Location: Palm Springs, CA Type: Residential House Instructor: Diaz- Granados This studio examines and investigates how volumetric parts will affect each other in a given rules and system whether they will supplement each other or not. The observation focuses on the relationship between the volumetric parts and the massive whole. Are the parts clumsy but the whole elegant? Do the parts and whole have congruous relationships or not? Students are expected to keep questioning potentials happening between the volumetric parts and the massive whole.
Palm Springs Palm Springs, a city in the Sonoran Desert of southern California, is known for its hot springs, stylish hotels, golf courses and spas. It's also noted for its many fine examples of midcentury-modern architecture. Located in the dry part of Palm Springs, the site is separate from the urban neighborhood and simply contains nothing but desert. It is a guaranteed land where designers can be creative for both a house and landscape.
17
KNOT VECTOR NODE This exercise introduces problems of massing composition through the scripted relationship of multiple centers and their corresponding vectors to nodes along a volumetric knot. Using the provided script(s) students are each asked to create three different massing versions that address the parameters and produce an ambivalent relationship between the following qualities: unified vs. fragmented; clumsy vs. elegant; internally congruous vs. incongruous; in the ground vs. of the ground . Given that multiple centers and vectors are built into the script, consider and speculate on how hierarchy might get established between these qualities and manifested in the overall massing. Variability is quite extensive within the script so each of student needs to determine what set of parameters are being manipulated towards a desired configuration.
18
SKIN SHEME Patterns of the skin or envelope is emerged from the house's own properties with the help of digital tools. As a result, abstract patterns not representing any typical materials are generated on the skins and naturally become a part of the project. Also, by the help of a computative digital tool, certain size of patterns are automatically grouped and transformed to rectangles to act as apertures of the house.

Southern California Institute Of Fashion 2013-2014 Spring Term
Location: Los Angeles, CA Type: School, College Instructor: Christopher Korner This studio explores programming as a means of generating organization models and conceptual narratives that shift basic morphologies into new spatial realms. Primary to this study is an investigation into the gradient of space between architectural form and cultural action. By focusing on methods of
Los Angeles Fashion District.
organization, the project will be engage in processes that can affect traditional systems of order and transform them into renewed models of spatial interaction.
The Los Angeles Fashion District, the is a design, warehouse, and distribution nexus of the clothing, accessories and fabric industry in Downtown Los Angeles. The Fashion District spans 90 blocks and is the hub of the apparel industry on the West Coast of the United States. There are approximately 100 blocks of independently owned retail and wholesale businesses with apparel, accessories, footwear, beauty and cosmetics for the entire family

C H I C A G O VIVARIUM/ LABORATORY 2014-2015 Fall Term
Location: Chicago, IL Type: Research Lab, Learning Center Instructor: John Enright Partner: Goric Wong This studio locates the idea of architecture at the intersection of various systems of information: from technical to cultural, from visual to tactile. Students will learn how to manage the development of abstract geometry as it becomes pressurized toward material concerns. The process of pressurization should yield refinement, nuance, and specificity to a structural framework as it transforms from a generic condition into a complex and particular building proposal.
Chicago Chicago, officially the City of Chicago, is the third-most populous city in the United States. The metropolitan area, often referred to as Chicagoland, has nearly 10 million people and is the third-largest in the United States. Chicago has often been called a global architecture capital[6][7] and is considered one of the most important business centers in the world. The site location has 2 ground levels, one original ground and one artificial ground which is actually seen as actual ground. Because the built ground is now accepted as the actual workable ground, the original ground is taking the underground part but still exposed to the natural daylight.
31
The whole project begins from creating iconic and abstract form of morphology for further structural and geometrical studies. Adding more iterations help understand how each iteration is interrelated to each other in terms of structure and roles.
32
This exercise is not resolving the structure of an idealized, a priori form. Rather, students view structure as a primary layer for giving shape to an abstract system of geometry that emerges when multiple systems collapse onto each other. While some of these layers have been encountered in previous projects (site organization, program distribution, circulation) this exercise adds new performative parameters including structure, envelope, and building systems. For this project structure will be the primary organizational system by which these layers are concatenated. The structural resolution of a building will not be thought of as merely the most feasible way of supporting an idealized form. Rather, structure will be an organizational system rich with spatial content that collapses building performance with effect.
MODULE ARRANGEMENT SCHEME: MULTIPLICITY The project considers the uses of precedent and antecedent, and catch the capacity to use as a methodological tool to guide a rigorous approach to decision making. Villa Capra and Villa Savoye have their identical floor height ratios regarding their forms, spatial functions, zones, and so on. Multiplicity of modules allow project to categorize and arrange programs accordingly based on their sizes, accessibilities and performances. Being comprised of two types of modules, the pair works as a basic unit of ag gregation, and is doubled in size to satisfy different types of programs. This process is required to continue until every program is placed inside of the aggregation.

RESEARCH INSTITUTE AND SCHOOL 2015-2016 Spring Term
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA TYPE: School, College INSTRUCTOR: Michael Rotondi This studio invent a program and a place for education research and practice, based on the potentials of intertwining informal learning and the formal learning that occurs with education theory. Each student will design an educational facility in the cross grain of a non-descript zone and develop it with one's own education theory. This studio encourage students to imagine a place to invent a life in a collaborative community of interdisciplinary creators networked in physical and virtual space.

Chinese Town Chinatown is a neighborhood in Downtown Los Angeles, California that became a commercial center for Chinese and other Asian businesses in Central Los Angeles in 1938. The area includes restaurants, shops and art galleries but also has a residential neighborhood with a low-income, aging population of about 10,000 residents. There are two schools and a branch library in Chinatown, as well as a city park, a state park and a medical center and hospital. Many motion pictures have been filmed in the area.
Mai n ideas of this education theory is that an education system suggests learners to find learning methods they fill most effective and enjoyable. Each person has different range of learning ability and different learning styles. One group of people might find listening to teachers is useful while reading books are boring and indifferent. In this school, each student is freely allowed to choose his/her well fitted educational methods. Three main educational categories are Auditory, Kinesthetic, and Visual. These are selected highly based on human main senses.

Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market Tokyo, Japan’s busy capital, mixes the ultramodern and the traditional, from neon-lit skyscrapers to historic temples. The Tsukiji Market is the biggest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world and also one of the largest wholesale food markets of any kind. The market is located in Tsukiji in central Tokyo, between the Sumida River and the upmarket Ginza shopping district. While the inner wholesale market has restricted access to visitors, the outer retail market, restaurants and associated restaurant supply stores remain a major tourist attraction for both domestic and overseas visitors Specific site location is not decieded until each student finds right places regarding their olympic activities and harmony with energy.
T O K Y O 2 0 2 0 OLYMPIC 2016 Summer Term

Location: Tokyo, Japan Type: Sport Center Instructor:John Bohn This studio approaches to architecture where intangible and unseen objects or topics are addressed, which is so-called Energy. This studio starts to explore them as design materials and finds ways to manipulate so that they can actually be part of the project features, Tokyo 2020 Olympic. Wind, temperature, sound, and shadow, but not limited to, are considered as the main materials of Energy and each student chooses their own Olympic activity to corporate with their Energy design. Also the students have opportunities to find project site within the boundary of Tsukiji fish market. Because most of energies do not have visibilities, digital energy simulation tools, such as Grasshopper, Hodini, Process, are utilized to change the energies to certain forms and colors.
The Olympic activity I selected is Badminton. Badminton is an indoor sport mostly because wind and light give huge influences to the game. Shuttlecock, the game ball, is so light that small amount of wind can easily change its speed and direction. Also if the lights are too bright, players will have difficulty to keep their eyes on the shuttlecock. Badminton itself already has challenges against wind and light sources. By manipulating the main affections of badminton, I manage to bring badminton from indoor to outdoor. First of all, badminton only has high density of popularity for certain countries and only few number of audience attend preliminary rounds. The exposure to the public will make people easily enjoy watching badminton. Tsukiji has compact building arrangement so that game court is placed above a building roof. By raising the ground level, the place is partially separate from public noise. Surrounding buildings have their own circulation so that audience can have easy access. The built structures are composed of big shields , play court, and light reflectors existing above the court. The shields can block public noise, especially traffic noise, wind, and provide dark environment. The light reflectors block direct sunlight and provide small amount of light by dispersing lights.

SET 1 :Default View
SET 2 : Thermal map added
SET 3 : reflected light added
The thermal map keeps its well-known graphic style. The reflected light is shown in black and white. Whited parts are where light is hitting. It shows that most part of the court is covered so that players can have visions to all possible area. Sound is shown in sphere shape particles. when the bigger and redder particles gets, the sound is getting stronger. They are mostly happened from the noise made when players hit the shuttlecock or audience talk. (Assume there are some amount of audience) However, sound does not really distract the match. Natural wind has range from yellow to red and daylight has range from green to blue. Red and blue mean stronger effect. It is hard to recognize yellow and red, which means there are weak wind influence, and mostly green is demonstrated in the image.

LA MODERN MUSEUM 2012-2013 Spring Term
48
Location: Los Angeles, CA Type: Museum Instructor: David Freeland This studio serves to develop analytical and conceptual strategies that direct notions of spatial ordering systems and architectural form. A series of evolutionary and interrelated projects involving various media (both digital and physical) will serve to guide the students toward an understanding of sophisticated notions of spatial compositions and material considerations.
Little Tokyo Little Tokyo, also known as Little Tokyo Historic District, is an ethnically Japanese American district in downtown Los Angeles and the heart of the largest Japanese-American population in North America. It is one of only three official Japantowns in the United States, all in California (the other two are Japantown, San Francisco and Japantown, San Jose). The area, sometimes called Lil' Tokyo, J-Town, is the cultural center for Japanese Americans in Southern California. It was declared a National Historic Landmark District in 1995. In addition, the project site includes 2 adjacent museums, MOCA and Japanese American National Museum, which can strengthen one of the features of Little Tokyo.
Altes Museum Architect: Karl Friedrich Schinkel Type: Cultural Architecture/ Museum Completion year: 1830 Location: Berlin, Germany Style: Neoclassical architecture. Construction system: Bearing Masonry
The exercises begin with a research based formal analysis of a significant building. The individual assignments can only be understood together as constituting a whole; they are a series of investigations interrelated with one another. The exercises start with constructing, disassembling, and later reassembling space to closely understand the complex relationships that lie within. Each exercise will require a rigorous method of working, deploying representational strategies for examining and describing geometry, form, and effect. Emphasis will be placed on developing precision in the investigational process through critical thinking, drawing, and model making.
49
The primitive geometries found in the previous exercises will suggest a new way to form a module which is 2 massings are intentionally penetrating each other so that, through this process, three different zones will be automatically generated. On the intersecting points of the 5x5 grid, the modules will aggregate and be read as a bigger whole. Each module will be fairly scaled in its own way and the grid will also have a chance to alter its system to get a clearer identification. The basic massing will be cut out from the grid by project site boundary box.
