Architectural Design: In Place Jonathan Piper | s1031314
AD2-In Place: Contents After a deep exploration of the History of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile and Old Town I feel that my design responds well to the opportunities that the site offers. With a vast historical background, the Tron Kirk in Hunter’s Square has been a highly important part of the deign as well as the lively square itself. After embracing an enjoyable body survey, looking into imprints the body makes on impact with the ground, both myself and partner developed our seat into a landscape with a wide opportunity of place in which to sit. This landscape ranged from high areas to low, as well as wide and narrow, and certainly guided us in the next stages of AD2. With a primary design theme of layers, coming from the Body Survey and Seat Design, these characteristics of the building almost control those who move within it. The layered concrete structure moves on and through the exterior facade and into the buildings space inside. Some very interesting spaces were concluded from these abstract layers and by also building into and redeveloping the Tron Kirk Church, I feel it makes a somewhat exciting building to experience.

Body Survey: Ground Imprinting
Exploration of the body through imprints stressed onto the ground as the body interacts with it. More pressure results in more depth.
Plans and Sections - Various body sitting actions , each distributing pressure in different ways and directions.
Seat Design: Manipulation of Scale
Layering of position sections resulting in abstract places in which to sit.
Developed landscape seat. Different levels in which the occupyer can chose which to sit on.
