BESPOKE PUB SIGNAGE LOCATION: ASHLEIGH SIGNS LTD., INSIGNIA SIGNS LTD. ROLE: LEAD DESIGNER Often, pub signage schemes require an identity to be created for them, something creative to make them stand apart from other free houses. Displayed are some examples of the wide variety of identities I have created.
RESTAURANTS LOCATION: ASHLEIGH SIGNS LTD., INSIGNIA SIGNS LTD. ROLE: LEAD DESIGNER FOR SIGNAGE & BUILDING FRONTAGE
• I was tasked with producing a more neutral external image for an under-performing chain of Stonegate-owned, ‘Great Traditional’ pubs, to reflect the food offers and welcoming atmosphere inside. • A number of styles were proposed to the client with great feedback on all, settling on a bistro-style design scheme with illuminated glass fronted fascias, to have remote control, colour changing lighting for weekend events. • The brand rolled out across multiple sites around the UK through 2014.
NEW PUB BRAND CREATION LOCATION: ASHLEIGH SIGNS LTD. ROLE: LEAD DESIGNER
• Flipside Brewery, wishing to expand into a chain of pubs, asked me to produce a ‘quirky’ new brand to stand out against trendy bars such as BrewDog. • Working closely with the clients, I proposed this vibrant, modern style, which received high-praise, and is currently being rolled out at sites across the UK.
NEW PUB BRAND CREATION LOCATION: INSIGNIA SIGNS LTD. ROLE: LEAD DESIGNER
• Thaikhun’ was a relatively new chain of Thai restaurants. After rolling out a few sites around the UK, I was tasked with creating a more coherent signage package for the brand, really capturing the essence of the street food carts and markets of Thailand. • To match the ‘bric-a-brac’ Thai Market style internals, I produced a design pack which included, stitched-together effect awnings, banners and flags, neon signs with a dilapidated look, corrugated panels and road signs fixed to the fascias.
RESTAURANT CHAIN LOCATION: ASHLEIGH SIGNS LTD. ROLE: LEAD DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
• In early 2014, Harvester approached us with a proposal to update the signage across the brand. The only detail provided was the new logo), and a green reference colour. We were told the interior was going to be much more ‘farmhouse’ style, and more family friendly. The brief was to match this new approach. • I was chosen as part of the initial project team to develop the brand to a workable level. Meeting with marketing representatives from Harvester, I developed a scheme of options using traditional shapes and timber finishes to give a rustic barn feel to the exterior

LOGO DESIGN LOCATION: FREELANCE ROLE: LEAD DESIGNER
• DinkyPops Designs is a small local business specialising in handmade gifts and trinkets. • I was asked to provide a design which reflected the homely and hand-crafted nature of the business, whilst remaining simple and recognisable. • The proposed Matryoshka doll design was greatly praised and is now being implemented onto labels and marketing material.
• Stohik is a new gym and sportswear brand. The name coming from ‘stoic’, they asked me to provide a brand identity which reflected the focus and strength implied in the name. • Using the Easter Island statues as reference, I produced the bold and impactful scheme displayed.
• Applejon Associates is a Leeds based property consultancy. Only having a limited number of staff, the company struggled to re-brand after a shift in business. As such I was asked to undertake the project. • The result was an attractive, modern style, with a recognizable logo that would appeal to both the residential and commercial client bases that Applejon caters for.
BUSINESS BRANDING LOCATION: FREELANCING ROLE: LEAD DESIGNER
• Insignia Signs required a re-brand after a multi-million pound deal breathed new life into the business. The increase in productivity required the brand to be updated from the existing, tired image. • Multiple logo designs were presented to Insignia Signs, including the one displayed which was the most liked. Decisions are still being made, but they are aiming to implement the new brand by late 2016.

aglow
• ‘Aglow’ was a series of lights designed to create a multisensory experience, allowing the user to manipulate light levels through deeper interactions than standard light units. • Project aims to ‘reinvent’ the mood light, moving away from the coloured LEDs and silicone shells so frequently used, and instead focusing on user connection and involvement. • Using contrasting materials against a clean, wood finish, the units promote interactivity through exploration.
LIGHTING DESIGN LOCATION: LEEDS METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY ROLE: DESIGNER, WORKSHOP PRODUCTION
• ModuLuminaire’ was the solution to a live brief from High Technology Lighting Ltd., whereby a ‘Xicato’ LED had to be incorporated into a table top luminaire. The Xicato had particularly good colour rendering qualities and as such I began to develop a design for a task light for artists and designers. • The resulting lamp was a semi portable unit with docking stations around the workspace. • The concept was to tackle the issue of difficult lighting angles when drawing, etc. It’s size and ergonomic shape also meant it could be held like a torch for intricate creative tasks where a very specific angle of light is needed.
MODULAR LIGHTING DESIGN LOCATION: LEEDS METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY ROLE: DESIGNER
• ‘Tidy’ was a project tackling the issue of redesigning the ‘desk tidy’. • A modular system was developed so that the solution was personal to the user, and constructed in a building block fashion to add an element of entertainment to a space which may be demotivating. • The user would only have to purchase the units they need, therefore making the whole system more personal to them, especially with the wide range of colours and features available. • The solution focused on verticality, leaving a small footprint on the desk to provide the largest free space possible on the surface itself.

PERSONAL BRAND DESIGN LOCATION: FREELANCE ROLE: LEAD DESIGNER
• In 2011 I attended the ‘New Designers’ convention in London with 11 other students from my course. Along with 2 of these students, I helped design our branding for the convention. • We wanted a clean style, but also an attractive amount of colour. To achieve this we assigned each student a colour which suited their displayed projects, which they would use as accents on their sheets and material.
• Earlier designs for the New Designers logo developed into a project called ‘GRIM (Great Imaginations) up north’. The initial concept of this project was to hold networking events for the growing design industry in the north of England, much like the New Designers convention. • The brand was eventually adopted as an identity for me and fellow graduate in some freelance work after university, but the initial concept is still one I am very passionate about approaching.
• In early 2016, discussions began with a former colleague about starting a design agency. We wanted an identity that promoted our creativity and our ability to apply imagination where there is blank space, but also our passion and strength in the field of design. BLANKWOLF was born.
IN CLOSING Hopefully, from the work displayed on the previous pages, you can see that I like to apply myself to a vast range of project types under the umbrella of ‘design’. My ‘all-round’ approach to design is fueled by a willingness to have input in projects from start to finish. This in turn means I work great within the creative, brainstorming environment of a team, but can also apply myself to a variety of tasks when working on my own. My involvement with a project becomes very personal, as I feel it is important to have pride in my work once it is installed/supplied to the client. Being involved with live projects in my time as a student, and becoming brand guardian and the sole designer for certain brands in my time employed, has developed my determination to provide solutions of the highest possible standard to a client. My ability to handle projects that have strict criteria with ease, means that I can put my mind to use in many situations, and gives the opportunity to be open to new challenges. My years at University and my time employed as a Signage Designer have given me an opportunity to work in many creative environments and experience many methods of working. Many of my personal favourite projects relate in some way to manipulating a space to create a better suited environment. This experimentation with spatial design stems from an interest in architecture, interior architecture, and landscape design. My interest in design stems from a very young age where a bucket of lego and a couple of cardboard boxes was my design studio, and as such my passion for design spills into my personal life. Influences in the more recent years in my life come from a keen interest in pop-culture and videogames. These will often culminate as a new style or idea that I like to implement into design work for personal projects. Occasionally I will create a series of posters or artworks, relating to a specific theme or style, to put up in my office at home. This interest in personal design works keeps me creative, and busy! Some examples of the stuff I do in my free time can be seen around this page.
