Pink states there are two type of behavior types. -Type X -Type I Type X are people who are motivated by extrinsic desires and external rewards. Type I are motivated by “freedom, challenge, and purpose of undertaking� Pink states that Type I people are becoming more prominent in this day and age, and that Type X people will need to adjust according or essentially get left behind. Type I behavior can be learned renewable, and promotes greater physical and emotional well-being



Autonomy Mastery Purpose


Autonomy includes: Task Time Technique Team By allowing employees to make these decisions, they will feel more motivated to complete work efficiently.


Pink describes Mastery as “the desire to get better and better at something that matters� Living in a world where information is at your finger tips, Pink states that people are still thirsty of knowledge. With online encyclopedias such as Wikipedia, and video tutorials on YouTube. People are able to master many tasks.


Purpose includes goals of an organization, words to promote team work, and policies that allows employees to “pursue purpose on their own terms� Purpose provides a context for autonomy and mastery. Addresses the situation that even we get what we want.


H&M’S EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT While H&M has a “Type X” approach to their employees, they like to make sure that they are represented and heard no matter level amongst the company. -Employees are represented at board level, with two of nine Board members being employee representatives. -Incentive Programs encourages long term involvement and to further the H&M brand.

As well as Union Network International and Global Framework Agreement as well as International Labour Organizations to protect employees as well.
