Ryan woke upon his stiff mattress. He woke up at the same time every day. So did everyone else. At 7:30, he arose out of his bed in a seemingly robotic way. So did his neighbor, Anne and her neighbor, Ben. Ryan’s home was a large white dome. Windows decorated the otherwise bland walls. Everyone’s house was the same, inside and out. And all of the houses formed a perfect circle around another dome shaped building. This one building was 150 miles from each home. What was inside this building was not known. But day and night, it controlled everyone’s minds. At times, though, it did have errors. Sometimes, it had minor errors. For example, someone would fall asleep earlier than everyone else does. They would start eating a few minutes earlier than everyone else. Sometimes, the consequences of this unknown thing’s mishap were serious. Ben, for example (Anne’s neighbor) ate his breakfast until the Zero-Gravity feature in his home stopped working. He lost feeling in his left leg. Then his right. The rest of his body followed. Ben laid on his floor, unable to talk, or move, or
