The Yellow House is an artist’s studio and residence in one. Set in the Noda Arts district of Charlotte, NC, the space intends to interact with the public by opening its front wall to the street while delivering a multi-purpose program. The spaces are developed from the carving away at the mass with light. Natural light and artificial light are deployed as means of dividing space and informing the program; while color is activated as a material variable. Geometries are derived from a series of sectional investigations of shadows made within selected architectural precedents and analyzing their respective color fields.
