The Maule mountain range has not only provided a strategic alternative route with the opening of the “Paso Pehuenche”, but also has an incredible potential for the development of sustainable tourism. Extensive areas of national reserves such as 7 Tazas National Park, Altos de Lircay National Reserve; Descabezado Volcano, El Cajón de Achibueno or the El Melado Sector; a inverted waterfall and a supposed platform UFO landings known as El Enladrillado generate great global interest. It is in this context that since 2018 we have developed initiatives for the development of mountain tourism in the Maule Region, which detonated in the exhibition of these possibilities at the event called Maule Day at SOFOFA, invited by the Regional Corporation of Productive Development of Maule (CRDP) together with the local government, evaluating two posibilities:

The first corresponds to a fiscal site called Potrero Lo Aguirre with more than 500 hectares neighboring Laguna del Maule.

Its location a few steps from Paso Pehuenche, the proximity to one of the largest winter resorts in Argentina “Las Leñas”, access infrastructure and even the possibility of extending the winter season for a couple of weeks compared to other winter resorts in the country make its implementation more attractive.

This first study, complemented by the developed of Regional Government, University of Talca and Ministry of Nationals Property delivered a series of records techniques such as coverage measurements of snow, wind speed, zoning, cartographies as well as modeling economic feasibility for the creation of a winter center.

Projecting the real estate factor, we propose a tourism project that incorporates hotels, apartments, cabins, winter sports, snow parks, as well as proposals during the summer period such as canopy, horseback riding, trekking, to name a few.

A second possibility corresponds to a private property that limits with the west edge of Laguna del Maule, known as Las Nieblas, with more than 5,000 hectares and neighbor to the fiscal land, with identical snow conditions. Any of these alternatives could generate more than 250 billion chilean pesos in 50 years of operation, a fiscal contribution of 70 thousand million chilean pesos for first category taxes, and more than 65 billion in relation to the Value Added Tax contributed by investors, that is, a profitable investment for both the state and the private sector.

At this moment, activities such as mountaineering meetings, lodging in lodges, snowmobile rides, guided tours for skiing and snowboard development, trekking, horseback riding, heliskiing, freeride and cross-country randonnée, evidencing the demand and potential sector tourism.
