Nov 8th, 2021 marks the date for many families and friends who will be able to reunite in US soil, as the United States open its borders to visitors from the European Union and thr United Kingdom. A

t what age did you realize the importance of taking care of your skin?

I can say at a very young age. Since the first time I grabbed my first beauty magazine, VANIDADES, and admired all the models and their beautiful skin. That's when I knew the importance of healthy skin. I would always put on my Moms and Grandmas face lotion and lip balm. At age 16 I started wearing sunscreen and since then I've taken care of my skin. What pushed you to go to cosmetology school out of high school instead of college? Since I was a little girl I always knew that I loved the beauty world. At age 13 I would style other children's hair on the second floor of my Grandmother's house in Mexico. In middle school and high school I would do my friends' hair and makeup. I was called the “Glitter Queen”. I was also in Poms and Cheerleading, and always added a little Nat sparkle because I always had my beauty bag with me. Even at my high school's football games I would always be fixing the cheerleaders makeup. It feels just like yesterday, I’ve always had a passion for the beauty world. Share with us your thought process in deciding to make a beauty brand of your own. I wanted to create a beauty product that was not yet out on the market and a brand that was also gender fluid. Since I always carry a lip product on me, I wanted to create one that would keep my lips youthful and hydrated for hours, so I wasn’t having to constantly reapply. I'm a big believer that lips are as important as the skin around your eyes. So my team and I created a lip serum/lotion that is strictly lip care and yet falls into the skin care category.

You’ve said that you are very involved in the formulation of all your products. What was most important to you when creating items that would be tied to your name? I have been involved in every step of this process. I'm a big skin care lover and wanted to make sure what I envisioned and expected became an actuality in my product. Since this brand represents me, it took me almost 2 years to approve the formula and we did 17 runs. Starting a business from the ground up is already a hard task, but starting one during a global pandemic must have been a roller-coaster. How has COVID-19 affected your original plans for NRomo Beauty?

“In middle school and high school I would do my friends' hair and makeup. I was called the “Glitter Queen””

It has definitely been a roller coaster creating a business from the ground up and especially through COVID, and now into the world we are living in today. For that reason, my launch date has had to change many times because of circumstances out of my control. It for sure has taught me and my team patience and perseverance. NRomo Beauty company values are as important to me as the product.

Lip care is often brushed over in the mainstream beauty world. What made you want to put great lip care products at the center of your beauty brand? At the age of 5, I always used “Lip Smackers” because I loved their smells and the packaging. Since then I always wanted to create my own beauty brand. After knowledge, experience and time I discovered that there was a big void in the lip care market since I could never find what I needed. And this is when NRomo Beauty was born.

You spent some of your past working as a hairstylist. Do you think you’d ever open up your brand to also include hair products? Funny that you ask. When I was in Cosmetology School, I always dreamed of one day starting my own hair care line. So I do believe that is definitely a possibility for NRomo Beauty.

What inspired the aesthetics of NRomo Beauty一from the logo, the packaging, to the brand’s sun-kissed Instagram feed?

The back story of my brand and the sun kissed aesthetic was inspired by my Father who passed away from COVID in January of 2021. I have not yet shared this with many people, but this tragedy is what inspired the colors and sunsets of my brand. You’ve worked on the set of movies and music videos for artists like Jennifer Lopez and Ariana Grande. Which do you think is more “chaotic”一 life on set or life running and starting your own business?

I must admit that starting up your own business has been a whole journey in itself. You have to be very responsible with every decision you make and always make sure it’s the right move to make. Share with us your favorite skincare tip.

My favorite skincare tips are to always wear sunscreen and wash your face before going to bed. This applies to everyone at every age. That's my best skincare advice, and to apply NRomo Beauty lip serum. When you aren’t working on all things NRomo Beauty what do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time I love practicing Yoga. I also love to be up to date with fashion. I have a passion for fashion. I love to travel whenever I get a chance and of course spend time with my family.

How do you think that taking care of your outer self can affect your inner self? If you look good you feel good. But honestly it all starts from the inner self first. If mentally you are not okay you will not take care of yourself correctly, and it will inevitably show. I believe that the work starts from the inside first. If you weren’t working in the beauty world what would you be doing and why?

I would go back to acting. Which is still in the future for me. I really appreciate and love the art of acting. I feel alive when on the screen. We can do it all. You’ve said before that “NRomo Beauty” is for everyone. What steps have you taken to make your brand inclusive and why was this an important business model for you? NRomo Beauty is an innovative Lip Serum/lotion for EVERYONE. There's nothing like this in the beauty market. We made a lip treatment that was comfortable for everyone to use. It was very important for NRomo Beauty to be gender fluid. The main step we took was ensuring that the formula, packaging and marketing represented everyone, so all would feel welcome. What goals do you have for NRomo Beauty in the next three years? To have a whole skin care line. NRomo Beauty will provide the most innovative lip care on the market. I see NRomo Beauty as the future for lip and skin care.

BRAND NEW SCI-FI MUSE

The timing couldn´t be any better. We are still shocked by this new pop culture icon, sci-fi extravaganza, called BRAND NEW CHERRY FLAVOR. While this genre has seen quite a lot of recent additions (Thank God for all the streaming services available) no other proposal has struck us more than BNCF. And just right there, in the first episode, is where we get to see Hannah, playing the role of a Real Estate agent named Christine, with such a strong styling (that Nancy Reagan´s T-shirt...). This character was meant for someone like Hannah, with a career just perfect for the role. Not only she acts, but she also writes, currently adapting her short film HUNTING SEASON into a feature film. Interview by ELISABETH HOWER @elisabethhower

ongrats on BRAND NEW CHERRY FLAVOR. I’ve heard you say that it’s been a highlight in your career. Can you tell me why? BNCF was such a collaborative process for me. It was such a unique, creative team and vision - and I felt really grateful to be a part of that. What did you enjoy about playing Christine? In what ways did you most relate to her? I loved Christine’s inappropriateness… and her wardrobe (haha). She was so much fun to play! BNCF is so deliciously stylized. Did that add to your character choices? How much does wardrobe and makeup factor into your choices? The style of the show, (including wardrobe and makeup) absolutely added to my character choices. Every costume-fitting for me was so informative about who Christine was and how she fitted into the BNCF world. And every time I put the wig on, I felt at home in Christine. The set designs and lighting were so brilliant too… They gave me such a great playground. All the elements of production really enhanced my sense of Christine and the story. Keeping any style from Christine or the show? I was lucky to keep a few pieces of her wardrobe! She has the best style haha!

What do you love most about the genre of fantasy and Sci-fi? Do you find it empowering to work outside the normal realm of reality? I love that there are always new paths to forge in those genres. As women especially- we aren’t conditioned as much to archaic character types. That’s a really exciting platform from which to tell stories. What turns on your imagination the most? Thinking outside the box. The bizarre… and spectacle. I love spectacle! Give me fireworks, a disco ball or balloons and I’m happy.

I’ve read that you studied clowning at school. I’ve studied it myself, I know how challenging it can be! Do you have any takeaways from those studies? Do you see it show up in your work? That’s so cool you have studied it! I definitely see clowning and opportunities for clowning showing up in my work. I love the idea that clowns always share with the audience. And in film/ tv, the camera is your audience. It’s really helpful for me to keep that in mind when working onset. And I love that clowns come from a state of joy… I like to remember that no matter how dark the material gets.

What was your favorite look/ piece of wardrobe that you’ve ever adorned?

I love her yellow blazer. That’s a fave of mine. Also Christine had a number of very cute berets, which were never shown on camera, and now I own them all (haha!) You’re making a bit of a name for yourself in the world of Sci-fi and Horror. Have the genres always been a favorite of yours, or has it been a complete surprise?

I’d say it’s mostly been a surprise but I really enjoy working in genre. I love the fantastical elements being combined into everyday life. There’s so much to explore there.

Has working as an actress in Hollywood been as you imagined it might be? In what ways is it different?

There are some moments that have felt like a dream come true for sure. And I’m very grateful for those. But the ups and downs are challenging. I never thought it would be easy, so some days I have to remind myself of that. You studied acting and filmmaking quite a bit before you started working professionally (abroad). Are you glad you devoted so much time to school before your career really launched?

I really am. I was really hungry to learn, and liked learning. And was fortunate to have the opportunity to do it so I’m grateful that I did. I also combined schooling with a lot of onset experience on a number of short films, indie projects and theatre. Really anything I could get my hands on. The practical experience taught me so much as well.

I know you’re a writer as well. Are you working on anything right now that has set you on fire? Right now I’m adapting a short film I wrote called Hunting Season into a feature film. It’s a sci-fi piece and it’s been a really cool process. What feeds you most about acting? What do you find the most challenging? One thing I love about acting is that the work feels as though it changes as I grow and change on a personal level. That feels pretty special. I’d say the biggest challenge is the unpredictability and uncertainty. The world has been a pretty fraught place the last couple of years. How have you stayed sane?

It really has… I know a lot of people have really struggled. One way I (try to) stay sane is to keep a gratitude journal, call friends and family abroad, and go for walks. Getting outside really helps clear my head. And I love a good podcast!
