Robert Lee is located in West Texas, and it is the County Seat of Coke County with a population of 1,071. Our little town was once known as the Playground of West Texas due to the many activities we are able to provide to travelers. Mountain Creek Golf Course is a 9-hole public golf course that hosts many tournaments for locals and visitors alike. Another great attraction is Lake E.V. Spence which is located upstream to the Colorado River. This grand lake provides great fishing opportunities, camping locations, nature trails and lets families enjoy their time on the water. Robert Lee is also home to the Red Canyon Gun and Archery Club which is located just outside of town. Again, we hope you will have a wonderful time while in Robert Lee. The friendly people and beautiful countryside will surely make your trip a pleasant one.

COKE COUNTY RANKS # IN THE NATION

By Hal Spain, Coke County Judge We have received notice that West Coke County leads the nation in percent increase in adjusted GDP (gross domestic product) for the year 2021. According to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), Coke County experienced an 81.8% increase in GDP over the previous year of 2020, which was a larger increase than any other county in the nation. With over 3100 counties surveyed throughout the United States, Coke County led the nation in the year 2021 for percentage increase in GDP. Gross Domestic Product is defined as the value of goods and services produced within a county. It is calculated with a four part formula which includes consumer spending, business spending and investment, government spending, and net exports. In their news release from the BEA, the utilities industry was credited as the leading contributor to the county’s large percentage increase in growth. What that means to us locally is that most of the increase in GDP is being credited to our Grape Creek Wind Farm, or as it is now called Apex Clean Energy. This 525 mega-

watt windfarm is one of the largest in North America, and their energy production began in the year 2021. In addition, Coke County has experienced some other growth factors recently which may have added to this increase. In the past two years, two new pipelines have been constructed to transect the width of the county. One is a 24 inch gas pipeline, and the other is a 36 inch liquid petroleum pipeline. Both have pumping stations that have been constructed in the southern part of the county, with an overall value of approximately $32 million. Coke County has also added some new businesses in both Robert Lee and Bronte, which have also contributed to our success. Lest we get too excited about these numbers, these figures also show that Coke County GDP in 2021 totaled over $234 million, which places us 219th out of the 254 counties in Texas. Harris County leads the list with over $364 billion. Be that as it may, it is a very positive and exciting thought to be named the county with the largest percentage increase in the nation for the year 2021.

Coke County Livestock Show The Coke County Livestock Show is the kickoff event of the year for our youth showing livestock in Coke County. The Livestock Association spends the year gathering donations for buckles and premium sale money for each exhibitor that enters an animal project. Exhibitors spend spring, summer, fall, and part of winter preparing their projects to exhibit in the fair. The local 4-H and FFA Chapters provide leadership and direction to each exhibitor bringing projects to the show. At the show you will see steers, heifers, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits and a project show full of crafts, cookies, cakes, and art. A great place to come and support the youth of Coke County. For updates like and follow the Coke County Livestock Association on Facebook or you can send in a donation to PO Box 555 Robert Lee, TX 76945 Spring Stampede In 2018, we formed RL4Restoration Foundation with the initial project to build a new playground at our County Park in Robert Lee. Our first big fundraiser was the Spring Stampede in the Spring of 2019. We continued to have this yearly (skipping 2020) and each year we nominate a Citizen of the Year. By Fall of 2021 we were able to complete the playground project. We continue to have the Spring stampede each year as are major fundraiser for other projects. The date varies each year, but has been either late April or Early May. There are varying factors including school activities and other community activities and available of our board to which date is chosen. The Shindig Deep in the heart of West Texas is a rural community. With a population of a little over 1,000 people, Robert Lee is known to show up big for the town’s annual event The Shindig. This event includes a big car show, vendors, a kid’s fair, washer pitching tournament, Cook Off, and ends the night with a good old fashioned street dance! ATTRACTIONS 1907 Old Coke County Jail Successor to County’s first one-room jail of rough lumber built about 1891. This building was erected 1907 in by Southern Structural Steel Company, San Antonio. Officials who led the contract were P.D. Coulson, County Judge; C.M. Barger, S.W. Gaston, T.J. Goss, M.C. Jones, Commissioners. At Least seven early Sheriffs lived downstairs, acting as jail keepers. The prisoners averaged about four a month, jailed only for short terms for minor law violations. Coke County never has had a felon assessed the death penalty. The gallows on the second floor were never used. Located at 601 Chadbourne Street, call 325-453-2641 or 325-453-2169 for a tour. Mountain Creek Golf Course Mountain Creek Golf Course is a 9 hole course with dual tee’s for a 71 par yardage 5718 yards. Open 6 days a week Tuesday-Sunday, closed Mondays for maintenance & watering (exception is Monday holidays). $15 green fees, $10 cart fee per person 9 holes, $15 cart fee per person 18 holes. Memberships are available with or without a cart shed, $70 or $85 a month. Tournaments are scheduled throughout March-September. Golf course is located at 170 Park Road, 325-453-2317. Caliche Loop Bird Sites From TX 158 and TX 208 in Robert Lee, take TX 158 west to 4th St. Turn right and go to the end of the road. This multi-use park on the Colorado River provides good habitat for butterflies and dragonflies, as well as birds such as Pied-billed Grebe, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Belted Kingfisher and Great Blue Heron. Memorial & Peace Garden Located behind the Coke County Courthouse. Memorial & Peace Garden was built by the Vision With A Purpose Foundation. Lights around the gazebo at night, decorated for the holiday. Coke County Park County Park has a community swimming pool, playground, tennis courts, bbq areas. Lake Spence & Marinas Another great attraction is Lake E.V. Spence which is located upstream to the Colorado River. This grand lake provides great fishing opportunities, camping locations, nature trails and lets families enjoy their time on the water. Wildcat RV & Marina Located just 5 miles west of Robert Lee, Texas, Wildcat RV Park is nestled right on Lake E.V Spence. Our park features RV sites, cabins and tent sites, suiting all of our guests! The RV Park is a great place to enjoy some time out on the water, and features multiple boat ramps.
