Cinco de Mayo Music Fiesta is a huge annual two day event celebrating hispanic heritage held at the Sutton County Pavilion. This is a fun-filled fiesta showcasing Mexican cultural traditions with Tejano, Norteño and even country music; dance, food, beer and wine-a-ritas. There is also shopping and games for kids of all ages.

The Dry Devils River Music Flood brings music with varying artists performing on a live stage! Homecoming weekend comes alive in Sonora as musicians fill the town with immense talent and style.The music festival and cook-off attract music fans and cookers from all over Texas and it all takes place in a serene environment in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. This event offers primitive camping, RV sites and is filled with food vendors to help ease that appetite! Mark your calendars homecoming weekend for the FLOOD is coming!!!!

The Old County Jail was built in 1891 b y t h e P a u l e y J a i l C o Living quarters for the deputy and family were on the first floor and the second floor contains the cells for prisoners.

The f i r s t p r i s o n e r w a s o u t l a w John D e n s o n , a cousin of John Wesley Hardin.

A Veteran's display was added in t h e t w o b e d ro o m s downstairs with lots of memorabilia from Sutton County veterans as well a s t h e i r p i c t ur e s an d w h a t b ra n c h o f t h e m i l i t ar y t h e y served in.

T he I c e H o u s e M u s e u m w a s b u i l t i n 1 9 2 7. T h e y m a d e i c e here in 300 pound blocks and w o u l d d e l i v e r to y o u r h o m e. Meat processing and bar-b-que were added later.

T h e S u t to n C o u n t y H i s to r i c a l Society acquired the building in 2005 and it was opened in 2008 as a museum. Lots of history a n d i n t e r e s t i n g m e m o ra b i l i a about the founding families of Sonora and local history.

The Miers Home Museum was built in 1889 by Isaac and Victoria Miers. They were sheep ranchers who came to Sutton County in the late 1800's. It was the 5th house built in Sonora and features artifacts and memorabilia about the pioneer heritage of the community of Sonora.

The Old Train Depot was built in 1930. When the train no longer ran to Sonora the tracks were taken up and the building was p u rc h a s ed b y Su t to n C o u n t y r e s i d e n t s and the C a u t h o r n Trust. The building was given to t he S u t to n C o u n t y H i s to r i ca l Society and moved to its present location behind the Miers Home Museum. An amphitheater was built in the back of the building. The building is rented out for parties, weddings, meetings, etc.

Designed by Oscar Ruffini and constructed in 1893, the Sutton County Courthouse anchors historic downtown. The adjacent jail was built in 1891 and housed outlaws like Will Carver. See Carver’s pistol at the Old Ice House Ranch Museum. The Sutton County Courthouse is fully restored. The historic jail houses years of history, having been home to locals and outlaws alike. See them both with a guided tour.

Old Ice House Ranch Museum

Our Exhibits feature a wide and wonderful array of historical artifacts to educate and entertain visitors about area ranching in the late 19th and early 20th century. Delightfully paired with heritage exhibits, you’ll find a special exhibit discussing Will Carver - a member of the infamous “Wild Bunch” gang that met his fate on the streets of Sonora. Visitors will leave with a new appreciation for the pioneers that developed this rugged area of Texas following the discovery of a deep water well. Learn how the discovery of the well opened this parched prairie to sheep, cattle and goats long after the bustle of the West had passed it by.

Miers Home Museum & Depot

The historic Depot is located just behind the Miers Home Museum. This Santa Fe Depot, built in 1930, watched over the busy stock shipping activities that tied the economy of Sutton County to the rest of the nation. While local trains sailed into history in 1977, today it serves both as an attraction and as a venue available for both as an attraction and as a venue available for rental.

Sonora depart from the visitor’s center in groups of 12 or

throughout every day except Christmas Day. The historic section is seen as

Built in 1961, the visitor center is a ranch barn design with vaulted ceilings and exposed oak beams. Come in and explore! Items in the gift shop are Fossils and Minerals, Jewelry, Souvenirs and Gifts, Home made fudge, Nature Trails, Gemstone/Fossil Panning and Sluice.

Camping - Stay With Us

Our RV Park and campground is nestled in the heart of the working ranch. There are 48 total sites, all with good water and electricity. Bathrooms with showers are available. Several RV sites are pullthrough. Don’t have a tent? Bring your bedroll and camp in the tipi.

Eaton Hill Nature Center

Eaton Hill Nature Center and Preserve offers visitors a unique and educational West Texas outdoor adventure. Only a stone’s throw from the award-winning Sutton County Courthouse and historic downtown Sonora, the trails at Eaton Hill meander over the 37 acre preserve. The Nature Center is located in the historic Eaton family home, atop the hill. Venture inside the nature center to check out the educational displays, including the locally excavated mammoth tusk and an entire room dedicated to a fascinating rock collection! The Nature Center offers birthday parties for young explorers, as well as guided tours and field trips to arouse interest in the great outdoors. With approximately 3 miles of trails to explore, visitors can enjoy hiking in a land of contrasts where delicate wildflowers bloom alongside the grand Spanish Dagger and prickly pear cactus. Catch a painted bunting bathing in the rock waterfall, a black-capped vireo flitting in the brush, a whitetail deer, or even a Texas horned lizard basking in the sun.
