SEMI - DETACHED APARTMENT BUILDING
THE MAIN CHALLANGE OF DESIGNING THE BUILDING WAS TO REACH A BALANCE BETWEEN THE SYMETRICAL FLOW OF FOUR RESIDENTIAL APARTMENT AND ACCOMODATING ALL THE SERVICES IN THE CLIENT'S BRIEF. A COMMUNAL SERVICE AREA COMPRISING OF TWO STAIRWAYS, ONE AT THE ENTRANCE AND THE OTHER AS AN EMERGENCY ROUTE LOCATED CLOSE TO THE KITCHEN. MODERN AND LOCAL MATERIALS WERE COMBINED IN ORDER TO CREATE A DESIGN THAT WOULD EMPHASIZE ON THE AFRICAN ARCHITECTURE MIXED WITH CONTEMPORARY UNORTHODOX STYLE. EACH APARTMENT IS MADE UP OF THREE ROOMS, ONE DINING, ONE KITCHEN, VISITOR'S TOILET AND A STORE.

MULTI - PURPOSE TIMBER FURNITURE DESIGN
THIS PROJECT STEMS FOR THE CONCEPT OF DYNAMIC UNITY OF FUNCTIONS BASED ON THE WILL TO INTERPRETE THE WORK AS COMPLETE, MULTIDIMENTIONAL FURNITURE. THE FORM IS OBVIOUSLY A QUADRRILATERAL HAVING OPPOSITE SIDES PARALLEL GEOMETRIC FORM WITH MULTIPURPOSE FUNCTION TO FORM A BED HOLDER AND A FLOOR LEVEL, APPROPRIATE FOR COMMERTIAL, RESIDENTIAL AND RECREATIONAL PLACES. THE CREATION OF THIS FURNITURE TAKES ITS DIMENTION FROM SIMPLICITY WITH CONSIDERATION OF HAVING A BED HOLDER AND A FLOOR LEVEL IN ONE FUNCTION. A BED HOLDER SHOULDNT NECESSIRILY BE USED FOR BEDS ONLY BUT CAN ALSO SERVE AS A LEVEL BETWEEN TWO FLOORS.

CRAFT OF PASSIVE COOLING AND CONSTRUCTION OF THATCH MUD HOUSES OGOJA IN CROSS RIVER STATE AND ALIADE IN BENUE STATE
THE THATCH ROLLING ROOF AND MUD CIRCULAR HUT. SUCH SWOOPS AND ROLLS. WHILE ON A US.AID PROJECT OF TEACHING ADHEARING, SEEKING ADVOCACY, PROVIDING STERILIZATION AND SENSITIZATION (SMILE - SUSTAINABLE MECHANISM FOR IMPROVING LIVELIHOOD AND HOUSEHOLD EMPOWERNMENT), I DECIDED TO STUDY THE THATCH MUD HUTS IN THE VILLAGE, THE SYSTEM OF CONSTRUCTION IN THESE SMALL VILLAGES AND REMOTE COMMUNITIES REFLECTS THE PECULIARITIES OF THE ENVIRONMENT, BUILDING SKILLS, TECHNOLOGY AND AVAILABLE MATERIALS. FORMS AND SHAPES ARE DETERMINED BY TRADITIONS AND NECESSITY RATHER THAN A SENSE OF TASTE OR AESTHETICS. ONE OF THE GREATEST ATTRACTIONS I DISCOVERED IS THAT THE THATCH IS EXTREMELY THERMAL EFFICIENT - WARM IN COLD WEATHER AND COOL IN HOT WEATHER. UNLIKE CONVENTIONAL ROOFING SYSTEM THAT TRAP HEAT AND MOISTURE VAPOUR IN ATTICS. THE INTERIOR IS WONDERFULLY DESIGNED MY THE VILLAGERS. BEAUTIFUL WONDERS OF ARCHITECTURE, NATURE AND TRADITION. CLASSICAL IRONIC ORDER FIDELITY MANSION, IKOYI LAGOS, NIGERIA
THE IRONIC ORDER IS ONE OF THE THREE ORDERS OF CLASSICAL ARCHITECTURE, ALONGSIDE DORIC AND CORINTHIANS. THE IONIC COLUNMS ARE THE THINNIEST AND SMALLEST COLUMNS OUT OF THE THREE CANONICS ORDERS SCOPE: THE IONIC CAPITAL IS CHARACTERIZED BY THE USE OF THE VOLUTES. THE IORNIC COLUMNS NORMALLY STAND ON A BASE WHICH SEPARATES THE SHAFT OF THE COLUMN FROM THE STYLOBATE OR PLATEFORM; THE CAP IS USUALLY ENRICHED WITH EGG AND DART. BASICALLY, THE EUROPEANS USE THE IONIC COLUMN IN BANK BUILDINGS AND CASTLES BUT SELDOM USED IN RESIDENTIAL BUILDING BECAUSE OF THE COST OF CONSTRUCTION.

ABSTRACT
BY ALI JOSEPH (REG. NO: 10/24573U/4)
A RESEARCH SUBMITTED TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE, SCHOOL OF ENVIROMENTAL DESIGN, ABUBAKAR TAFAWA BALEWA UNIVERSITY UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, BAUCHI, BAUCHI STATE. IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENT FOR THE AWARD OF BARCHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY DEGREE_ (B-TECH) ARCHITECTURE.
MARCH 2016.
THIS PROJECT STUDIES THE PROPERTIES OF GREEN ROOFS AND THEIR POTENTIAL MITIGATING EFFECTS ON THE URBAN HEAT ISLAND (UHI) AND HOW IT CAN HELP REGULATE THE MANGROVE SWAMP FOREST HARSH TEMPERATURE. THE UHI IS ASSOCIATED WITH MANY NEGATIVE EFFECTS SUCH AS INCREASES IN AIR POLLUTION, HEAT RELATED ILLNESS AND MORTALITY, WATER TEMPERATURES IN STREAMS, AND GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS IN THE MANGROVE SWAMP FOREST. THESE NEGATIVE EFFECTS WILL BECOME PRONOUNCED AS IT IS ESTIMATED THAT OVER THE NEXT CENTURY, URBAN TEMPERATURES WILL INCREASE BY AN ADDITIONAL 3 TO 7OC. THE AIM OF THIS STUDY IS TO ESTABLISH THAT GREEN ROOFS ARE OF BENEFIT TO BUILDINGS AND ITS USERS. THE POTENTIAL THEY HAVE TO AID CONSERVATION OF CLIMATE IN AREA. MANY STUDIES HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED CONCERNING THE UHI EFFECT AND THE BENEFITS OF GREEN ROOF MITIGATION, BUT STUDIES HAVE BEEN LIMITED ON THE OVERALL EFFECTS OR BENEFITS GREEN ROOFS COULD HAVE ON AN ENTIRE CITY OR COUNTRY. WITH THE USE OF DATA COLLECTION, THIS PROJECT USED TWO EXISTING BUILDINGS IN LAGOS STATE TO GAIN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE EFFECTS WHICH GREEN ROOFS HAVE ON AN ENTIRE CITY. ONE BUILDING INCORPORATED GREEN ROOF WHILE THE OTHER IS MADE OF STANDARD BUILDING MATERIALS. THE BUILDING TEMPERATURES WERE MONITORED USING TEMPERATURE, HUMIDITY, RAIN, AND WIND SENSORS TO ASSESS THE IMPACT OF GREEN ROOFS ON THE OVERALL TEMPERATURE OF THE BUILDING. THE DATA WERE COLLECTED FROM DECEMBER 2015 TO JANUARY 2016, ON AN HOURLY BASIS. THE DIFFERENCES IN THE INDOOR AND OUTDOOR TEMPERATURES SHOW THAT BLACK ROOFS WERE WARMER IN BOTH CASES. GREEN ROOFS WILL CREATE AWARENESS AND HOPEFULLY PROVIDE GUIDELINES AND STEPS IN MICRO BUILDING CLIMATE WHICH COULD BE PLOUGHED BACK INTO THE DESIGN STAGES, CONSTRUCTION STAGE, AND REGULATORY STAGE AND MAINTENANCE STAGE
