The Christmas Song “The Christmas Song,” perhaps better known as “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire,” is a beloved tune cowritten in 1945 by Mel Tormé and Robert Wells. The song was reportedly penned on a hot July day and the writers had to think cool thoughts to evoke a feeling of the holiday season. This Christmas classic became one of the defining performances of Nat King Cole’s career, as he is one of the most popular artists to perform the song and recorded it on at least three separate occasions.

Wishing You All the Gifts of the Season May this Christmas bring love, faith, friendship, peace, goodwill and great joy to your door. With our thanks for your kindness and support, we wish you a blessed and glorious season.

“The Christmas Song” Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose. Yuletide carols being sung by a choir, and folks dressed up like Eskimos. Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe help to make the season bright. Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow will find it hard to sleep tonight. They know that Santa’s on his way. He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh. And every mother’s child is gonna spy to see if reindeer really know how to fly. And so I’m offering this simple phrase to kids from one to ninety-two. Although it’s been said many times many ways: Merry Christmas to you! The Little Drummer Boy Originally titled “Carol of the Drum,” the song eventually known as “The Little Drummer Boy” was written in 1941 by Katherine Kennicott Davis, who was a classical music composer and teacher. It first was recorded by the Trapp Family Singers and tells the story of a poor boy who had no gift to offer the Baby Jesus. Mary agrees to let him play his drum as a gift. One of the more notable recordings of the song was a collaboration by David Bowie and Bing Crosby for a 1977 television special, which interwove “The Little Drummer Boy” with “Peace on Earth.”

“The Little Drummer Boy” Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum, A newborn King to see, pa rum pum pum pum. Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum, To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum. So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum, When we come.

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” LUKE 2:11

Merriest Best Wishes To our dear friends and customers at the holidays and all year, we wish you contentment, faith, friendship and cheer!

With Our Thanks,

Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum, I am a poor boy, too, pa rum pum pum pum. I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum, That’s fit to give our King, pa rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum. Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum, On my drum. Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum, The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum. I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum. Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum, Me and my drum.

Jingle Bell Rock

Christmas wasn't always on December 25

While Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, the actual date is lost to history. There's no mention of December 25 in the Bible and many historians say Jesus was really born in the spring. Some historians posit the date was originally chosen because it coincided with the pagan festival of Saturnalia, which honored the agricultural god Saturn with celebrating and gift-giving.

Many Christmas songs are traditional religious hymns or slow-paced popular standards. “Jingle Bell Rock” is anything but, with a rock-n-roll hook and upbeat tempo. This popular rockabilly Christmas song was first released in 1957 by Bobby Helms and it fit in perfectly with other songs of the era. It remains a fan favorite today.

We really appreciate patrients like you, and we wish you a very happy holiday season! “Jingle Bell Rock” Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock Jingle bell swing and jingle bells ring Snowin’ and blowin’ up bushels of fun Now the jingle hop has begun.

DID YOU KNOW? CHRISTMAS EDITION Gifts have both Christian and Pagan origins

Winter Wonderland “Winter Wonderland,” with its vivid cold weather imagery, seems like it was tailor-made to sing around Christmastime. But much like “Jingle Bells,” the song wasn’t actually written for the holiday season. The lyrics were penned in the 1930s by Richard Bernhard Smith, who was suffering from tuberculosis at the time and holed up indoors. Smith stared out his window observing kids playing innocently in the snow and wrote a poem evoking feelings of the carefree days he once knew. Smith’s friend and musician Felix Bernard took the lyrics and composed a melody to go with them. Even though the song never specifically mentions Christmas, it quickly became a holiday standard.

“Winter Wonderland” Sleigh bells ring, are you listening, In the lane, snow is glistening, A beautiful sight, we’re happy tonight, Walking in a winter wonderland. Gone away is the bluebird, Here to stay is a new bird, He sings a love song, as we go along, Walking in a winter wonderland. (Chorus) In the meadow we can build a snowman, Then pretend that he is Parson Brown, He’ll say: Are you married? We’ll say: No man, But you can do the job while you’re in town. Later on, we’ll conspire, As we dream by the fire, To face unafraid, the plans that we’ve made, Walking in a winter wonderland. (Chorus) When it snows, ain’t it thrilling, Though your nose gets a chilling We’ll frolic and play, the Eskimo way, Walking in a winter wonderland. Walking in a winter wonderland, Walking in a winter wonderland. Lyrics by Richard Bernhard Smith; melody by Felix Bernard Lyrics courtesy of Christmassongs.net

Christians may have grown up learning that we give gifts at Christmas to mimic the presents the Three Wise Men brought the baby Jesus. But like so many other traditions, that also has its roots in Saturnalia. The pagans originally gave offerings to the gods, too.

REJOICE! May the grace of God’s love shine down on you this season FILLING your soul with delight. It Came Upon the Midnight Clear Written in 1849, “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear” is a poem written by Edmund Sears, who was a pastor of the Unitarian Church in Wayland, Mass. Sears’ lyrics are often put to “Carol,” a melody composed for the poem by Richard Storrs Willis. However, “Noel,” modified by Arthur Sullivan from an English melody, also has been used. Angelic singers share the message of peace on Earth in this carol, and many well-known popular artists, including Josh Groban, have entranced listeners with their renditions of this holiday classic.

“It Came Upon the Midnight Clear” It came upon the midnight clear; that glorious song of old, from angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold; “Peace on the earth, good will to men, from heaven’s all-gracious King.” The world in solemn stillness lay, to hear the angels sing.

You can thank Prince Albert for your Christmas tree Brew a cup o’ tea when trimming your tree this year to pay homage to its origins. When Prince Albert of Germany got a tree for his new wife, Queen Victoria of England, it really took off across the pond. A drawing of the couple in front of a Christmas first tree appeared in Illustrated London News in 1848. To use modern parlance, the idea went viral.

MERRY Christmas

Still through the cloven skies they come with peaceful wings unfurled, and still their heavenly music floats o’er all the weary world’ above its sad and lowly plains, they bend on hovering wing, and ever o’er its Babel sounds the blessed angels sing.

Thanks for hanging out with us this year. We really appreciate your support.

And ye, beneath life’s crushing load, whose forms are bending low, who toil along the climbing way with painful steps and slow, look now! for glad and golden hours come swiftly on the wing. O rest beside the weary road, and hear the angels sing! For lo! the days are hastening on, by prophet seen of old, when the ever-circling years shall come the time foretold when peace shall over all the earth its ancient splendors fling,

DID YOU KNOW? CHRISTMAS EDITION St. Nick was more generous than jolly You probably already knew that the idea of Santa Claus came from St. Nicholas. The saint wasn't a bearded man who wore a red suit; that tradition came much later. In the fourth century, the Christian bishop gave away his large inheritance to the poor and rescued women from servitude. In Dutch, his name is Sinter Klaas, which later morphed into Santa Claus in English.

White Christmas Snow-covered landscapes can make the holiday season that much more special. The beauty of such landscapes are captured in the song “White Christmas,” which was penned by Irving Berlin. No one is sure when Berlin actually composed the song, but it is widely believed he did so in the late 1920s or early 1930s. Just what compelled Berlin, who was Jewish, to write the song also remains a mystery. But “White Christmas” is one of the best-selling songs of all time — particularly after it was included in the musical “Holiday Inn” starring Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby. The song earned Berlin an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1942. In the film, “White Christmas” was performed as a duet by crooner Bing Crosby and Marjorie Reynolds, but Crosby’s solo recording is a time-honored classic that can always be heard during the holiday season.

Silver Bells Each holiday season, representatives for charitable organizations stand in commercial districts and ring bells as they seek donations for the needy. Songwriting partners Jay Livingston and Ray Evans wrote a song in 1950 based on those department store Santas and Salvation Army volunteers and titled it “Tinkle Bells.” Livingston’s wife, Lynne, humorously suggested a new title so that the bells and song would not be associated with visiting the bathroom to “tinkle.” The writers quickly changed it to “Silver Bells,” which proved a much better fit. Holiday celebrants soon made “Silver Bells” a holiday standard.

The Dutch gave us the idea to leave cookies and milk If your kids leave Santa a little snack to keep him sated on your journey, thank the Dutch. On St. Nicholas’ feast day on Dec. 6, Dutch children leave him food and drink to be exchanged for gifts overnight.

“Silver Bells” City sidewalks, Busy sidewalks Dressed in holiday style, In the air there’s a Feeling of Christmas.

May the miracle of His birth and the light of His love fill your days with joy, hope and wonder!

Children laughing, People passing, Meeting smile after smile, And on every street corner you’ll hear.

With gratitude in our hearts, we wish you a merry and blessed Christmas season.

(Chorus) Silver bells, silver bells, It’s Christmas time in the city. Ring-a-ling, hear them ring, Soon it will be Christmas day.

Coca-Cola played a part in Santa's image Before Coca-Cola decided to use his image for advertising, Santa's looks tended more spooky than jolly. Then, in 1931, the beverage company hired an illustrator named Haddon Sundblom to depict the jolly old elf for magazine ads. Now, kids see visions of sugarplums instead of having Santa-themed nightmares

All I Want for Christmas is You Who can resist the magic of the holiday season? Especially when that magic brings a normally inanimate snowman to life! That’s the concept behind “Frosty the Snowman,” a song both children and adults enjoy each holiday season. Musicians Jack Rollins and Steve Nelson co-wrote the song in 1950, when it quickly caught on as a catchy and memorable tune. Just a year earlier, Rollins and Nelson penned “Here Comes Peter Cottontail” for an Easter special, so they were no strangers to kid-friendly holiday songs. The “Frosty” song led to a children’s book soon after, and later was brought to the television screen in 1969 for a holiday special that has become a must-watch in many households.

Frosty the Snowman

Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul, With a corncob pipe and a button nose And two eyes made out of coal. Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say, He was made of snow but the children Know how he came to life one day. There must have been some magic in that Old silk hat they found. For when they placed it on his head He began to dance around. O, Frosty the snowman Was alive as he could be, And the children say he could laugh And play just the same as you and me. (Chorus) Thumpetty thump thump, Thumpetty thump thump, Look at Frosty go. Thumpetty thump thump, Thumpetty thump thump, Over the hills of snow. Frosty the snowman knew The sun was hot that day, So he said, “Let’s run and We’ll have some fun Now before I melt away.” Down to the village, With a broomstick in his hand, Running here and there all Around the square saying, Catch me if you can. He led them down the streets of town Right to the traffic cop. And he only paused a moment when He heard him holler “Stop!” For Frosty the snow man Had to hurry on his way,

But he waved goodbye saying, “Don’t you cry, I’ll be back again some day.” (Chorus)

Written by Jack Rollins and Steve Nelson Lyrics courtesy of Christmassongs.net

Many popular holiday songs are time-honored classics that were written decades or even centuries ago. It takes a special tune to become a contemporary Christmas song with staying power — one that’s enjoyed each year along with hymns, carols and other standards. “All I Want for Christmas is You” is one such song. Released in 1994 and featured on Mariah Carey’s hit holiday album “Merry Christmas,” the song has sold millions of copies around the world and quickly became a contemporary holiday standard. Often covered, not easily outdone, Carey’s version is frequently included in “Top 100” lists for Christmas tunes.

“All I Want for Christmas is You” (Intro) I don’t want a lot for Christmas, There is just one thing I need. I don’t care about the presents, Underneath the Christmas tree. I just want you for my own, More than you could ever know. Make my wish come true. All I want for Christmas is you, yeah. I don’t want a lot for Christmas, There is just one thing I need, (and I) Don’t care about the presents, Underneath the Christmas tree. I don’t need to hang my stocking, There upon the fireplace (Ah). Santa Claus won’t make me happy, With a toy on Christmas Day. (Chorus) I just want you for my own, More than you could ever know, Make my wish come true, All I want for Christmas is you, You, baby. Oh, I won’t ask for much this Christmas I won’t even wish for snow (And I) I’m just gonna keep on waiting Underneath the mistletoe I won’t make a list and send it To the North Pole for Saint Nick (Ah) I won’t even stay awake to Hear those magic reindeer click (Chorus) (Bridge) Oh, all the lights are shining So brightly everywhere (So brightly, baby) And the sound of children’s Laughter fills the air (Oh, oh yeah) And everyone is singing (Oh yeah) I hear those sleigh bells ringing (Oh) Santa, won’t you bring me the one I really need? (Yeah, oh, oh) Won’t you please bring my baby to me? Oh, I don’t want a lot for Christmas This is all I’m asking for (Ah) I just wanna see my baby Standing right outside my door (Chorus) (Outro) You, baby All I want for Christmas is you, baby (You) All I want for Christmas is you, baby (Ah, oh, ah, oh) All I want for Christmas is you, baby (You) All I want for Christmas is you, baby (All I really want, baby, ooh) All I want for Christmas is you, baby (All I want, all I really want is you) Written by Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff Lyrics courtesy of Genius.com
