She was a sales rep for a Colorado-based company trying to push hemp and CBD products in Texas. But customers were apprehensive. “No one wanted to touch [CBD]. No one wanted to talk about it. No one was interested in carrying this product in any sort of spa or retail space,” Kerver said. Today, the market for CBD, or cannabidiol, is exploding. Sisters Shayda and Sydney Torabi founded Restart CBD in September 2018, just before the Farm Bill passed. Sydney Torabi said the changes in the law have made business run more smoothly. The two originally intended to operate the business
exclusively online but decided to open a brick-andmortar location in Austin after having difficulty with several online payment companies, from momand-pop merchants to giants like PayPal, that didn’t want anything to do with cannabis. “We were a business, but it wasn’t as functional as it could’ve been until the [Texas] law passed,” Sydney Torabi said. The Torabis started with a pop-up store and expanded to a permanent location last April, a month before Texas law changed. “We were operating in a gray area until the Texas bill passed,” Sydney said. “It did take away a little bit of the stigma. Like, ‘OK, now it’s legal in Texas. We can go to a CBD shop and not feel like we’re doing something bad.’

BLESS THEM DON’T ENABLE THEM Dear Dave, My husband and I are both teachers, and we’re on Baby Step 7. We’re struggling with things where our wills are concerned. Three of our four adult children aren’t being wise with their money, and my husband and I disagree on how to talk to them about it and how it may affect us re-structuring our wills. We don’t want to be judgmental, but at the same time we agree something needs to be said or done. Danielle Dear Danielle, Let’s say someone is working at my company,
and taking my money in the form of a paycheck. Let’s also say this person isn’t doing a good job. If I don’t talk to them about their performance because I don’t want to be seen as judgmental, I’m not doing my job. I owe them the feedback necessary for them to become a good team member. Otherwise, they could just get fired one day without really knowing what happened because I refused to “judge” them. You’re supposed to judge people. The idea that you’re not supposed to is ridiculous. But you don’t have to be a jerk about it. There’s a big difference between judging people and being judgmental. But it’s unkind not to share insights or suggestions for a better way of life with those you love most. Holding back and telling yourself the way someone behaves is just the way they’re made is wrong in most instances. Overspending and not saving money aren’t character traits—they’re decisions. They’re adults now, and they’re going to do what they want. They don’t have to understand or support your ways of handling money, but you and your husband have every right to tell them they have to start behaving in certain ways if they expect to receive your money when the time comes. If they’re
misbehaving, and you give them money, you’re funding that bad behavior. That’s not love, that’s enabling. And a big pile of money isn’t going to heal the bad things—it’s only going to magnify them. Sit down with your kids, and have a loving, clear discussion about the situation. Remind them that they’re adults, and you and your husband are no longer able to tell them how they have to live. But let them know in no uncertain terms, gently but firmly, they will not receive your money if they continue to behave in ways you both consider foolish or unreasonable. Let them know they’ll always have your love, just not your money, unless they begin behaving more intelligently and maturely with their finances. You can’t make them do anything, Danielle. Blackened Salmon Sliders with Pickled Beet Relish
Recipe courtesy of tarateaspoon.com Prep time: 40 minutes Yield: 12 sliders (2 per serving) 4 single-serve cups Aunt Nellie’s Diced Pickled Beets 1 finely chopped scallion (about 2 tablespoons) 1/2 cup shredded radishes 1 cup plain Greek yogurt 1/2 cup finely crumbled feta cheese 2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley 2 teaspoons chopped oregano 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, plus additional, to taste, divided 1 pinch ground black pepper 2 pounds salmon fillets, skinless 3 tablespoons blackened seasoning 2 tablespoons olive oil 12 slider buns 1 cup baby arugula Drain beets well. In medium bowl, combine diced beets, scallions and radishes. Set aside. In small bowl, combine yogurt, feta, parsley and oregano. Stir in 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt and black pepper. Set aside. Cut salmon into 12 roughly 2 1/2-inch squares, about 1/2-inch thick. Slice thick parts of fillets in half to make thinner, if needed. Sprinkle fillets with salt, to taste, on both sides. Sprinkle evenly with blackened seasoning until well coated. Heat nonstick skillet or cast-iron pan over medium heat and add oil. Add salmon, in batches if needed, and cook, turning once, until salmon is crisped and almost cooked through, about 1 1/2 minutes per side. Remove and let rest. Spread each slider bun with about 1 tablespoon yogurt sauce. Layer arugula, salmon and beet relish on each slider and serve.

3 tablespoons olive oil 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon black pepper Place potato salad in large bowl. Gently stir in diced tomatoes and onion. Add arugula; stir gently to combine. Sprinkle with crumbled bacon. To make dressing: In bowl, combine apple cider vinegar, olive oil, salt, garlic powder and black pepper. Drizzle over potato salad to serve.
