That stress is sometimes magnified if you’re serious about getting out of debt during the holidays. I’m glad you two are on the same page where your finances are concerned. The fact that you’re committed to becoming debt-free as a couple will go a long way toward ensuring a merrier Christmas. Just sit down together, have a look at your budget, and ask what she thinks is a reasonable amount to spend on gifts and things while you’re trying to get out of debt. If you think her suggestion is a manageable figure, just give her a hug, tell her you agree, and move on. If you’ve been trying to get out of debt for a while, you might even propose using last year’s Christmas budget. The important thing is to make sure you listen to each other, and approach this together. I am ambivalent al. I’m reminded of the
about the holidays. I guess I fall somewhere between BAH-HUMBUG and It’s a wonderful life. I’ve had good and not so good holidays. Good memories and some not so stellar. But, I keep reminding myself it’s not about me. It’s about he birth of Jesus and he is after all the reason for the season. I also like to see the faces of children on Christmas morning. It’s a joy to see kids faces full of joy and wonder in the season. When I was a kid I had a bunch of great Christmases, however, I remember a few that were quite dysfunction-
movie, A Christmas Story. This is one of me and my father’s favorite Christmas movies. I recall asking for a BB gun and I distinctly remember being told I would put my eye out. I sware my family spent one Christmas having dinner at Young’s Chinese restaurant in New Orleans. For a reference see the scene where the family has dinner at the Chinese restaurant after the neighbor’s dog demolished the family’s Christmas Turkey. I can laugh at it now, but if I were a parent, I would have been horrified to have to go out to eat for Christmas.

However, I’m not sure it really happened to the Fuller family but I sure think it happened to my sister and me. I mean it could have been worse, it could have been more like Chevy Chase in the movie National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. At least I’ve never had to kidnapp a boss to get a Christmas bonus, hmmm, or have I? I have had cats roost in my Christmas trees, I’ve walked in the cold on Christmas eve to see my favorite cousin. By the way, she was not home when I got there. My parent’s did not know I had left to go see Peggy. I’m sure there were words said and I got in
some trouble for walking at night alone on a major highway much more so for walking in the dark. I’m reminded that the spirit of Christmas can be found in the eyes of a child, or in the story by O Henry about the gift of the Magi, or the story of the first Christmas, and how the world came and worshipped at the feet of the Christ Child. It is more about Jesus and less than about us and our pathetic needs, wants and desires of our petty hearts. It is indeed better to give than to receive and let this be the season that you reach out to help the less fortunate. This year our publicaton wants to offer a free
