I’M SO CONFUSED
The Covid-19 epidemic continues. Recently a cruise ship came into port in my hometown of New Orleans docked with several cases of the virus. I said to myself, “Whoa N e l l y, h o w c a n this be?” Everyone on the ship had been vaccinated and had their proof. When I was a kid, I got shots for the following mumps, measles, polio, Diphtheria, and probably a host of other shots. Low and behold, these medicines all did what they were supposed to. Because of them my little sister and I never had whooping cough or other maladies. The nineteen fifties were scary times for children. I knew children who died of Leukemia and Polio h o w e v e r, vaccines were perfected. Many kids were saved because of work by D r. Jonas
Salk and other health care professionals. Fast forward to my adult years. Pneumonia has tried to kill me on two different occasions. Did you know there is a flu shot and pneumonia shot and guess what after taking them? I took those shots. I have
had no Pneumonia or flu since. If you follow a doctor ’s advice and get the Covid shots, should there be a certain percentage for success? Yo u w o u l d t h i n k s o , h o w e v e r, w e are given axioms that don’t make a lick of sense. We a r t h re e masks. What dummy came up with that idea? Social distancing? I don’t think so. Mandates do nothing but kill our economy as well as mom-and-pop businesses. This year my wife and I both sur-

Please understand this humble publisher to do your homework and decide what is best for you and your f a m i l y. I w o u l d never presume to tell you how to handle your family’s healthcare needs. I am against government mandates but, I am for responsible health care that is honest with the public. It’s time for
us as Americans to stand up to our government and knock down all these stupid mandates. Should we continue to follow sanitary guidelines? Of course, it never hurts to be clean, it will help stop the spread of germs. I hope the new year will find us all in a better position both with our money and our health and let us not be afraid of taking government officials to task when we think they are wrong. Dear Dave, My wife and I are trying to help our son and daughter-in-law. They are both 29-years old, and they have been married for three years. They have good jobs, but the problem is they ask for money on a regular basis. Helping them out hasn’t been a strain, because we’re in good shape financially, but we have started encouraging them to live on a monthly budget. They always say they will try, but it never seems to happen. At this point, it feels like we may be enabling

But they should understand you two won’t be opening your checkbook again if they don’t open up about their financial behavior. This isn’t about mom and dad being controlling or snooping around, it’s about you and your wife making sure you’re not enabling what you consider to be bad behavior going forward. It always hurts parents to see their kids
go through things like this. But if they’re acting irresponsibly with money, they need to suffer the consequences of their actions. Who knows? In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside. Add butter and sugar to bowl of stand mixer fitted with paddle attachment. Cream until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add egg and mix for another minute. Add pumpkin, sour cream, vanilla and almond extracts. Mix until well combined. Detach the bowl from the mixer. Using a silicone spatula, fold the dough once or twice so all ingredients are well combined and no flour streaks remain. Refrigerate dough for one hour up to overnight. Prepare the frosting: In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with paddle attachment, combine butter, yogurt, milk, and confectioners sugar. Beat until creamy and soft. Refrigerate. Preheat oven to 350°. Line cookie sheet with parchment. Set it next to work area dusted with flour. Remove chilled cookie dough from refrigerator. With a medium (1½ tablespoon) scoop, divide dough into 24 even portions, rolling each in flour to keep it from sticking. Dust off excess flour. Place as many cookie dough balls on cookie sheet, about 2½ inches apart. Flour the bottom of a glass and press each ball flat, to about ¾” thickness. Bake for 12 minutes. Let cookies rest on cookie sheet 2 minutes. Transfer to wire rack to cool. Repeat with remaining cookie dough balls. Remove frosting from refrigerator about 10-15 minutes before using. Once cookies have cooled completely, frost each and cover with sprinkles. Serve immediately or store, with wax paper between each cookie, in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
