A new build residence located on a woodland site set back from Squam Lake. The house is designed as a vacation getaway for the client and extended family. The 5,000sf residence is designed to float amongst the trees, with the main level cantilevered above the ground with the lower level below the center of the house rooted in the landscape. The main level includes 3 bedroom suites, open plan kitchen and living spaces, craft studio, window daybeds and utility room. The lower level includes a large entertainment living room, bathroom and utility + storage areas. The project was conceived and constructed in a very short time-frame using the same materials as the larger cabin. Duties included: Concept design and construction documentation drafting. Urban Sanctuary Seattle, WA Olson Kundig 2019
A condominium remodel in the historic Pioneer Square Neighborhood of Seattle. The scope of work includes opening up the wall between the new unit and the client’s existing condo residence. The expansion will provide the client with an additional guest suite on the lower level with an elevator that connects to a large living room office upstairs. The upstairs living room opens up to the clients existing kitchen through a large barn door. Duties included: Site survey and measurements to create the Revit model accurate to the existing conditions. Design of the remodel proposal including renderings and client presentations. Produced the Permit application and construction documentation. Consultant coordination and on site progress review during demo and construction. C

A new build residence located in a luxury development on the periphery of Las Vegas. The house optimizes the SouthWest views towards Diamond Hill and the mountains beyond. The main hallway acts as a gallery space for the clients art collection - leading towards an uninterrupted view of the mountains in the distance. The design incorporates solar shading and passive cooling to reduce the heat load in the living areas of the house. Duties included: Design and Revit model production from early SD. A new build residence for a Tech Executive client located in Medina, a high end neighborhood on the East side of Lake Washington. This project has an ambitious sustainability agenda and is seen as an office case study to develop and pioneer high-end sustainable design. Duties included: Involvement from early concept design and production of the initial proposal documentation. Development of the Revit model and early visuals. Involvement in client presentations and consultant coordination from an early phase in order to define the sustainability benchmarks. Produced the SD and DD documentation.

Concept design and feasibility study for the demolition of an existing residence and new construction of a 10,000sf single family home in Beverly Hills. The proposal includes large living and entertainment spaces along with a master suite and two guest suites in the main body of the house. The library office are located across a reflecting pool seen from the main entry. Opposite is the garage and back of house suite, which sits below a tennis court. An additional detached guest suite is located on site. Duties included: Development of the concept design presentation including plans, renderings, fee proposal and sustainability goals. C

Concept proposal for a residential development project on a hillside site of Deep Water Bay. The proposal includes two luxury residences designed to maximise the dramatic views of the site. The homes sit on top of a parking level with garages, back of house spaces and the main entry met with a waterfall at the back of the property. The main level hosts all the entertainment areas, including a terrace and infinity pool. The upper level contains 4 bedroom suites. Simonyi House Extension Medina, WA Olson Kundig 2017
A new living quarters extension to a residence located in Medina, just outside Seattle, WA. The existing house was designed by a local architect in the 1980’s and was later extended to include an art gallery, indoor pool and library. The house went under a full renovation in 2009. The new extension will become the main living quarter of the building and the existing house will become a larger gallery, office and library for the owner. Duties included: Production of existing building model and design progression in the working Revit model. Construction of the physical model for the client presentation.

Unfinished [Spain] Spain 2017
[Espacios] Inacabados is a 35mm film photodocumentary exposing the condition of unfinished Spanish Architecture, 10 years after the 2007-8 economic crisis. [Espacios] Inacabados seeks to engage with architectural sites around Spain that exist in a state of perpetual incompleteness. The series of images draw comparisons among the various developments in an effort identify similarities in the unfinished sites across Spain, in order to define an architectural typology. Through this process, significance is placed on the contemporary ruins by portraying them as the object in focus, in the same way that desired architecture is photographed or represented.
The body of work is positioned as a dialogue that raises questions about the state of Architecture and development going forward in Spain. The goal is to question the integrity of those responsible for Spain’s unfinished developments; from project conception to construction execution. [Espacios] Inacabados should be read as a part of the wider critique of the actions of autonomous development authorities, banks and the construction industry that gave rise to Spain’s Architectural typology known as ‘perpetual incompleteness’.

Potential in Ruin Spain + Italy 2020
A photographic documentation of some of the most notorious modern ruins in Southern Europe and a handful of the most successful adaptive reuse projects in Italy and Spain. The research proposal is aimed to question the abundance of unfinished and abandoned buildings at a time when sustainable development is a serious target in the architecture industry. Can adaptive reuse inspire radical projects at abandoned sites like these, or will they forever remain as monuments of economic crisis. The project documents numerous unfinished buildings across Sicily ranging from residential to civic and infrastructure that were abandoned for various reasons. A condition famous throughout Sicily. In comparison, the offices of RCR Arquitectes [Spain], Ricardo Bofil [Spain] and Studio AMAA [Italy] are shown as an example of radical regeneration of previously abandoned buildings. Together, the work alludes to the potential for these abandoned sites to become something new. This research proposal took inspiration from Incompiuto Italiano, a study of unfinished buildings across Italy, and was presented to the Olson Kundig Office in Seattle, WA.

Systems Diversion: Deviation, Appropriation and Regeneration Ciudad Valdeluz, Guadalajara, Spain DS1 | ‘Urbanicidio’ Unfinished Madrid Oxford Brookes University, MArchD 2016
This portfolio aims to explore the potential of the redundant buildings located in the unfinished urban developments on the periphery of Madrid. Following the crash of the housing market and the economic downturn of 2008, millions of homes have been left unoccupied across Spain. Despite the abundance of housing located in Madrid, immigrants created informal squatter settlements on the outskirts of the city. This type of insurgent behavior reinforces the exploration of alternative uses for redundant building structures in the unfinished Spanish ‘Ghost Urbanizations’.
The design response explores the potential to develop the Ciudad Valdeluz master plan as a collective act of insurgency, defined as an active revolt or uprising. The project incorporates the studio ethos of luxury and austerity to regenerate the incomplete development in Valdeluz on the outskirts of Madrid – a failed example of capitalist development in a boom period. Focusing on the ‘post urban inhabitant’ - the citizen of the unfinished urbanization identified by Ballesteros (2008), the design identifies the steps to acquiring citizenship by rebelling against the modernist agenda set out by the architect’s urban master plan.
The design compositions are explored through a body of research supporting the position of reuse and recycling in times of economic scarcity. The project ties together social and site research that centers on mapping material resources across the unfinished landscape. The architectural interventions use the environment and the landscape of discarded building materials for positive reuse. The final resolutions are a speculative response formulated and composed through a design methodology; one possible outcome to a design process that is open to infinite alternative outcomes.

These residents, like primitive men and women or rather, like post-urban inhabitants - will have to re-think their surroundings and patterns of life in places where the street is no longer the street. Here, the overlaying of functions has been eliminated, buildings are icebergs floating in isolation, and contact is reduced to the absolute bare minimum’ (Ballesteros, M. 2008).

Evora Alternative Technology Centre Convento Sao Bento de Castris, Evora, Portugal International Architectural Regeneration and Development Oxford Brookes University, MArchD 2015
This is a comprehensive regeneration proposal for the Convento Sao Bento de Castris, a 13th century convent located in Evora Portugal. The project is articulated through a number of stages including an appraisal of the existing building, a proposed outline business plan, and proposed programme that have been developed based on the critical analysis of the current Economic, Social, Site Conditions and Educational background data in Evora and the wider Alentejo Region. The regeneration proposal is contextualized through precedent research and the feasibility of the proposal has been outlined through a three phase masterplan. The reuse strategy makes a clear intention to depart from the historical layout and function of the Convent by employing a creative strategy to achieve an outward looking Design and Research Centre. The Phase One design proposal focuses on three key areas of intervention for the provision of an Accommodation Wing, Library and Communal Cafe, and Materials Workshops. The design interventions are presented through visual imagery, detail design and through traditional architectural drawings.

_The Non-Cloister The removal of the East Wing opens up the Cloister to be directly accessed from the wider extents of the site. This now encourages the expansion of Materials Research studies from the workshops to the rest of the building, ultimately contributing to the wider regeneration of the building in later phases.
_Cafe and Communal Spaces The Cafe Bar at ground level serves as a rest point for visitors and students of the Centre. The lounge areas encourage people to stay and enjoy the space.
_Links to Accomodation Wing The widened openings leading out of the Library travel towards the West Wing around the new 3-sided Cloister. _Materials and Research Library Shelving on First and Second Floors for the display and storage of literary and material research. This becomes the focus of the Centre, housing and expressing the embedded knowledge gained through experimental research and application.
_The Chapel Exhibition Hall The EATC utilises the Chapel as a function space, exhibiting the work produced by the students of the centre and other researchers throughout the year.

Design of a state of the art dedicated Music School including recital hall, rehearsal spaces, music teaching and individual practice rooms located at the heart of the Dragon School site in Oxford. Each of the spaces in the building are designed according to specialist specifications in order to provide the highest quality learning environment both inside and outside the dedicated teaching spaces. Duties included: Production of a Revit model that was used to develop a full set of drawings presented in client design review meetings and the formal planning submission, and would later be used as the central BIM model for design team collaboration. Conversion of Pembroke College’s existing Porter’s Lodge, mail room and storage areas into a more formal and modern entrance to the College with a security check point. The entrance was amended to be fully accessible and secure, requiring students pass through a secure gate and visitors to pass through the Porters Lodge to enter the grounds of the College. Additional ground works were designed in the cloister to provide level access to all areas. Duties included: Production of 2D and 3D information for client presentations and a full drawing package for Planning Application.

Architectural services to design a 20 person funicular lift as a part of a Regeneration Scheme in Ebbw Vale, Wales. Duties included: Production of a BIM Revit model following planning approval. Participation in the BIM coordination between specialist lift designers, Structural and Civil engineers. Updated drawings to construction status including plans, sections and elevations, details, cladding setting-out drawings and site drawings. Produced door elevations and schedules as well as internal cladding panel arrangement drawings to show the principle for internal cladding and lighting arrangements. This project was developed using level 2 BIM.

A small private studio/gallery for a californian artist based in Healdsburg, CA. The design proposes the reuse of an garage originally constructed in the 1920’s as a minimal intervention art space. ‘Ribbon’ walls float off the existing concrete structure and provide display space for art. Many of the original features of the building are retained, including the steel garage doors which will close off the space when not in use. Duties included: Production of the Pre-Design pricing set including plans, elevations, sections and 3D imagery.

Oxford School of Architecture End of Year Show Oxford Brookes University Oxford, UK 2015, 2016
Worked closely with the Exhibition Designer to manage the construction team consisting of 8 other students of architecture, to deliver the painting, assembly and construction of the 2015 End of Year Architecture Exhibition. Duties included: Management of the construction team and material deliveries, painting mdf sheets, and preparation of materials to construct the new walls within the studio and exhibition spaces over 3 floors of the Abercrombie building at the Oxford Brookes Headington Campus. The exhibition spaces hosted the work of over 500 students of Architecture in the Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research courses and was open to the public for 2 weeks.
