Dr. Eugene Richardson, Global Health #58

Eugene Richardson, MD, PhD Why do people continue to die from preventable diseases?

Dr. Eugene T. Richardson - With Covid-19 still raging around the world, why do people continue to die from preventable diseases? This is a question for our time and Dr. Richardson explains some of the complexities in finding solutions. Black individuals are dying from COVID two to three times more than white people in the U.S. Causes of this disparity include overcrowded housing and frontline service work. Dr. Richardson explains that the pandemic was completely underestimated and solutions didn’t include anything about reducing disparities. Dr. Richardson, Harvard Assistant Professor, Global Health and Social Medicine, served as the clinical lead for Partners in Health’s Ebola response in Sierra Leon. His book, Epidemic Illusions addresses dismantling institutional racism by repairing the colonial legacy that led the way to unfair trade agreements in places like India, South Africa and Brazil and how to make amends.

Dr. Geraldine Schwartz & Dr. Desmond Berghofer Founders: Visioneers International Network

Geraldine Schwartz (Gerri) #20

Dr. Gerri Schwartz comes to us from the perspective of a global elder, parent and grandparent who is vitally interested in our future. Dr. Schwartz’s work spans seven different constituencies as a teacher, guidance counsellor, neuroscientist, applied clinical psychologist, researcher, and founder and co-founder of non-profit organizations. Her special expertise is in the understanding of brain function as it applies to performance and behavior. Her work helps us understand the evolving power of our mind for helping us act with intention instead of by accident to address the planetary emergencies facing us in this post-pandemic period. Once we know how our brain functions, we will be equipped with a new compassionate and kinder prosperity that can produce a new world culture, less dependent on the systems, industries and choices that have created the pre-pandemic global emergencies of climate change, inequality and international conflict. Dr. Des Berghofer is an entrepreneur, futurist, teacher, seminar leader, and author of a remarkable novel titled The Visioneers: A Courage Story about Belief in the Future. This inspiring novel features a small group of passionate people moving the world from its current trajectory of economic and social collapse and environmental destruction toward a global civilization of peace, cooperation and sustainability. Having lived through a period of turbulence and emerging globalism in the second half of the 20th century and the acceleration of technological change and increasing environmental concern in the 21st century, Des is committed to raising his voice to inspire the search for global unity and working to help create the best possible outcomes for current and future generations, This focus culminated in the founding with his wife Geraldine Schwartz of the Visioneers International Network, which aims to transform the fantasy of the the Visioneers novel into reality.
