Marsha Hunt: actor and first celebrity activist

At 104. Marsha Hunt is the oldest

living star from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Just as impressive as her acting career, however, is her many years as an activist.

She was Hollywood’s first celebrity activist, working tirelessly for the UN and to raise awareness and money for hunger, homelessness, peace and the refugees who need to make a new start.

Marsha is remembered and beloved

around the world for her beauty, her talent, and for her bravery in standing up to the powerful forces of the McCarthy era. Although she was blacklisted in the movies, she continued performing on television and Broadway.

Los Angeles Times reviewer Roger Abele describes her documentary as, “articulately told by Hunt herself, primarily, in interviews that showcase her elegant mien, fiercely intelligent eyes, poised diction and sense of drama (“The clouds were gathering … the rain came”), the movie flits across decades in which the New York-raised performer navigated Hollywood’s enchanting ups and, after the Red Scare swept show biz, disturbing downs.”

She also had a special concern for veterans, selling war bonds, visiting wounded soldiers, and trying to raise their morale wherever she went. CONTENTS

Sometimes all it takes to bring peace into our lives is to be thoughtful to someone we may not even know. Simple things like opening a door for someone with their hands full, noticing something beautiful or interesting that someone is wearing.

If peace begins with us, what is holding us back? What attitudes might be keeping peace at a distance, keeping us from noticing the opportunities for peaceful interactions available to us every day?

One of the most important things that we can do is watch our thoughts. They have power and our thoughts about peace can become tomorrow’s reality, helping to create the world, the community, and peace not only for ourselves but for others who happen to cross our path.

Today, find opportunities to be peace. – Gratefully, Barbara
