WARM WINTER SALADS BY JAMIE GELLER
If, like my grandfather zl, I can eat a steaming bowl of soup in the heat of summer, then I can also enjoy a fresh salad in the dead of winter. These warm salads featuring leafy greens, root vegetables, citrus fruits and wheat berries are total tummy warmers.

Pumpkin Spiced
Challah BY SHANNON SARNA
I
am one of those people who can’t wait for the colder months to arrive. I love breaking out the cozy sweaters, making a pot of comforting soup, and just about any recipe that includes the words “pumpkin spice.” And so it seemed long overdue to create a challah recipe that included one of my absolute favorite ingredients: pumpkin. I have made just about everything with pumpkin: pumpkin macaroni and cheese, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin bread, pumpkin cake, pumpkin soup, and even pumpkin lasagna. There are so many varieties of pumpkin and each one truly has its own characteristics, flavor and uses. I have made a savory and rich cheddar ale pumpkin soup from a white pumpkin, and made delectable baked goods using small, sweet, sugar pumpkins. I also love using kabocha pumpkins for soup or a simple side dish. And if you are wondering: yes, by January my husband is sick of eating pumpkin in all these various forms. Too bad for him, I still love my pumpkin.

Chanukah Party To get the party started I went out to my favorite fabric store in the city and picked out a warm wintry pattern. Whenever I need some inspiration I love to go to the fabric store and somehow it always pulls together. We picked a safari print. Table designed by Chani Greenbaum
The placemats, cutlery, and crockery are from my next best place – IKEA! There’s always a bargain and they always have something to match. 56
