Josh Peppas Sports Information Director

Emily Black begins her second year as a student assistant. Black was promoted to the department’s Director of Social Media where she manages Ozarks’ social media efforts, including Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram. Additionally, Black assists in the day-to-day operations of the Sports Information Office covering all ten sports. Black provides Ozarks’ athletic web site with content through press releases and athlete biographical information. Black, a native of Clarksville, was named to the President’s List for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average her freshman year. She was the editor of the Clarksville High School Panther newspaper for two years and was valedictorian of the 2011 graduating class at Clarksville. She currently blogs for the WNBA’s www.shesaballer. com. She is a sophomore marketing major.

Josh Peppas is in his twelfth year as Sports Information Director at Ozarks. He additionally serves as the Assistant to the Director of Athletics. Peppas is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Sports Information Office, including maintaining the athletic web site and promoting Ozarks’ ten sports. He is an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame and the Ozarks Sports Hall of Fame. Peppas has had a combined thirteen media guides earn “Best in the Nation” citations from CoSIDA the past five years. His baseball media guide has been voted the top NCAA III guide the past four years. Peppas also produces Eagle Insider , a bi-annual alumni magazine for the athletic department, and recently produced a 28-page Ozarks’ Sports Hall of Fame magazine for its members. A native of Ozark, Ark., he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ozarks in 2000. He and his wife, Kelli, are the parents of Brant, Brayden and Brenden.

Cory Snyder Director of Video Technology Cory Snyder begins his first season as the Director of Video Technology for the Sports Information Department. Snyder, a junior from Clarksville, Tenn., produces video highlights, interviews and game coverage of Ozarks’ ten sports. Snyder served as a sports producer for Ozarks Channel 6 as well as producing and co-hosting “SportsSoup.” During the 2011-2012 season, Snyder was the play-by-play commentator for baseball and served as a color commentator for basketball. He also provided play-by-play commentary for KXIO at Clarksville and Lamar High School football games. He assisted in the production of live video streaming for local radio stations KDYN and KLYR. Snyder completed a summer internship in 2012 for 5 Star Radio Group in Clarksville, Tenn., where he co-hosted the radio show “The Team”. He is a Radio/Television major at Ozarks.

Administration + Dr. Rick Niece President Raised in a small town (pop. 900) in Ohio, Dr. Rick Niece attended a school that housed all classes, grades 1-12, in one building. After graduating from high school, Dr. Niece attended Ohio State University where he received a bachelor of science degree with majors in English and speech. His master’s degree and Ph.D. are from Kent State University. Dr. Niece began his professional career in education as a high school English and speech teacher. He subsequently held a variety of administrative positions at the public school level: department chair, supervisor, assistant principal, curriculum director, and assistant superintendent. In 1988, Dr. Niece left the public school sector and became an assistant professor and special assistant to the dean at Kent State University in Ohio. He later went to Walsh University in Canton, Ohio where he served in several positions: professor, academic dean, provost, executive vice president, and interim president. In 1997, Dr. Niece was named president of the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas. He and his wife, Sheree, currently live in Clarksville.

Chad Floyd is in his twelfth year as the full-time head athletic trainer. A native of Ozark, Ark., he began his athletic training career with the University of ArkansasFort Smith. He then went to Arkansas Tech University for three years and on to the Minnesota Twins minor league system. He holds state, district and national training certifications and has an Arkansas teaching certificate in health and physical education. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Southwest Athletic Trainers Association and Arkansas Athletic Trainers Association. Floyd was voted by his conference peers as the 2007-08 ASC East Division Trainer of the Year. He received the award again for the 2010-11 year. He received the University’s Alvin C. Broyles Outstanding Professional Staff Award, given to a member of the professional staff who has demonstrated exemplary dedication, professionalism and ability in his or her position, for the 2007-2008 school year. Floyd is a 1995 graduate of Arkansas Tech University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. He and his wife, Mary, are the parents of one son, Jalen.

Jimmy Clark begins his seventh year as the Athletic Director and his twelfth year as head baseball coach. As Athletic Director, he is responsible for all aspects of the athletic department, with oversight of 19 staff members. A former baseball standout at the University of Central Arkansas, Clark was named the 2005 American Southwest Conference East Division Baseball Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to their first winning season in nearly a decade. Clark’s 2007 club earned a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 1996. The 2008 team went 32-11, the best record in school history, and made its second straight playoff appearance. Two of his players from the 2008 club earned All-America honors from D3baseball.com and another was named to the ABCA/ Rawlings All-America Team. A native of Conway, Ark., he coached at Heber Springs High School (Ark.) for nine years and was named the 2AAA Conference Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1998. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from UCA and his master’s degree in secondary education from University of Arkansas-Little Rock. Clark and his wife, Kelli, have two sons, Dax and Cole.

+ Coaching Staff Shaun Wiseman Head Coach Shaun Wiseman begins his fifth season as Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach. Wiseman, a native of Rogers, Ark., has proven to be among the top young collegiate tennis coaches in the region. Wiseman has quickly established a strong athletic and academic tradition at Ozarks as he continues to emphasize the development of a well-rounded student-athete. Under Wiseman, both programs vastly improved in his first year, with the men’s team nearly qualifying for the playoffs. Wiseman had one player earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors, a program first, and had a combined six players named to the American Southwest Conference All-Academic Team. Additionally, two of his women’s players earned All-Conference honors his first year. Wiseman followed that season by again having another player earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors to go along with two more women’s players earning All-Conference. Wiseman continued to build both

programs, and in 2012, he led the men’s program to its first ten-win season in more than a decade. Again, the Eagles just missed qualifying for the playoffs. On the men’s side, Wiseman had the conference Freshman of the year and four AllConference players. It was a banner year academically, too, in 2012 as both the women’s and men’s programs earned the ITA Team Academic Award. Prior to Ozarks, he was the assistant women’s coach at NCAA Division II Arkansas Tech University from 2005-2007 where he helped with all aspects of the Golden Suns Tennis program. Wiseman assisted with the development of the junior tennis program in the River Valley community. He graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in vocal music. He earned his master’s degree from ATU in college student personnel and is currently pursuing his PhD in Athletic Administration from Northcentral University. He serves as the athletic department’s compliance officer and is an admissions counselor. He also is the athletic department’s staff representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Wiseman and his wife, Alicia, were married in 2008.

Chad Mann Assistant Coach Chad Mann begins his second year as the assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach. Mann, a native of Roswell, New Mexico, was a student assistant at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor for one season. Mann played at UMHB from 2006-2008 where he was named the American Southwest Conference West Division Newcomer of the Year. Mann also served as a tennis pro in central Texas for two years. He has an USPTA pro tennis certification, and plans to earn his master’s degree in sports science from the United States Sports Academy. Mann graduated from UMHB with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science in 2008. Additionally, Mann served the United States Army from 1999-2003.

2013 Women’s Season Preview + Veteran Group To Lead Lady Eagles Head Women’s Tennis Coach Shaun Wiseman is happy to have a veteran group return for the 2013 season, and with that experience comes increased expectations. Two seniors, three juniors and two sophomores give Wiseman the luxury of an experienced team in the competitive American Southwest Conference. Chelsea Glasscock and Tara Richards return for their senior seasons and have been with the program for all four years. Whitney Lewis, Kalli Simpson and Macie Kelley are back for their junior seasons. Megan Wallace and transfer Mollie Grace Wilkinson make up the sophomore class, while talented freshman Elly Eibes comes in with high expectations. “This is about as good as it gets as far as experience,” said Wiseman. “They play well together and it is a close group. We are not flashy but rather very blue-collar. They are hard working and consistent, and that is very important. We fight in each match and you have to take it from us. We don’t give it to you.” The Lady Eagles got off to a slow start last season, but came together and positioned themselves for a better 2013. Ozarks finished 4-10 overall and won the final two matches of the season. “Our team got better as the season went

Richards went a solid 3-3 against conference opponents in singles play. “Our two seniors have meant so much to our program,” said Wiseman. “They have been the foundation of the program. I have

Simpson had three wins in both singles and doubles. “It might be a little too early to tell who is No. 1,” said Wiseman. “Whitney has been a leader on the court. She has as good a work ethic as any female athlete that I have been around during my time at Ozarks. She practices harder and longer than anyone. It will depend how Elly handles the spotlight. She has some growing to do and still needs more experience. But she has the raw ability to be a dominant No. 1 in our conference. It will just come down to whether she will be patient enough to get there.” Wallace and Wilkinson give the team even more experience. “Mollie Grace moves forward well and has great hands,” said Wiseman. “And when she is confident she is as good as anyone on the team. Megan has developed into a solid player. She works hard and doesn’t get discouraged. She refuses to quit.”

ASC Honors Three For Academics Three women’s tennis players were named to the 2011-12 winter/spring American Southwest Conference AllAcademic Team. To be eligible for ASC All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have lettered during the 2011-12 season, be in at least their second academic year at their institution, and carry a career grade-point average of 3.00 or better. The team included Chelsea Glasscock, a junior mathematics major from Prairie Grove, Ark.; Ashley Teague, a senior political science major from Lavaca, Ark.; and Whitney Lewis, a sophomore marketing major from Clarksville, Ark. Lewis Named ASC Player of the Week Sophomore Whitney Lewis was named the American Southwest Conference East Division Women’s Tennis Player of the Week during the 2012 season. Lewis, a native of Hartman, Ark., won in straight sets in No. 1 singles against John Brown and was victorious in No. 3 doubles against Hendrix College at the Hendrix College Invitational. She also teamed with Megan Whitney Lewis Wallace for a 9-8 doubles win.

Lady Eagles Earn ITA Academic Awards The women’s tennis team earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 academic year. Ozarks was among a handful of NCAA III schools across the country to earn academic distinction for both men’s and women’s teams. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a team grade point average of at least 3.20 for the 2011-2012 academic year. Ozarks was the only American Southwest Conference program to earn the award for its men’s and women’s teams. Under Head Coach Shaun Wiseman the women’s program posted a 3.29 team grade point average and joined Texas Lutheran University as the ASC’s only representatives. The men’s program posted a 3.20 team grade point average and was the only ASC school on the list. Additionally, three student-athletes earned individual accolades from the ITA. Megan Wallace, Whitney Lewis and Ashley Teague earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a letterwinner, maintain a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) and have been enrolled at their present school at least two semesters.

+ 2013 Men’s Season Preview Expectations At An All-Time High For Men’s Tennis Program Expectations are at an all-time high for Shaun Wiseman’s men’s tennis team following a record-breaking 2012 season. The Eagles have their sights set high after more than doubling their wins from the previous season. The 2012 team posted its first winning record in nearly a decade, ending with a 10-5 overall mark. Spurred by the momentum of last season, the Eagles appear primed to again challenge for a playoff spot. “I think they have the potential to go a lot further than last year,” said Wiseman. “There is no substitute for experience and these guys now have a year of conference play under their belt. We can take what we accomplished last year and put that as a baseline to where the program can be every year.” Wiseman has his top six players back, including four All-Conference players. Wiseman’s men’s team is the first to have four players named All-Conference during Ozarks’ NCAA III run. Sophomore Todd Turner returns as the No. 1 singles player after posting a 9-5 mark. Turner made Honorable Mention AllConference in doubles. No. 2 singles player Bishop Bass is back after earning ASC Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-Conference honors. He went 12-3 in singles and teamed with Turner to go 11-4 in doubles.

Todd Turner “Scott is a team leader,” said Wiseman. “He has developed a lot since his freshman season. He is stronger mentally and now has the ability to put away close matches. Michael wins more matches with his mind and mental fortitude than most. He is creative and smart on the court. He is a multidimensional player and that is how he wins his matches.” Sophomores Corey Dillard and Greg Knaggs round out the top six in singles for Ozarks. Dillard posted nine wins in singles while Knaggs had seven singles wins. “Corey arguably had as good a season as Todd and Bishop,” said Wiseman. “He fights harder than most of his opponents. Eibes went 9-5 at No. 5 singles, while teaming with Skimbo to go 6-4 in doubles.

And that motivation has been a driving force during fall play. “The first day of practice was to the point where I thought we would have a fight because of the intensity,” said Wiseman. “These guys are more driven as a result of not going to the playoffs. We don’t just want to be a team that wins a lot of matches, we want to win quality matches and win the big matches.” Qualifying for postseason play is always difficult in the competitive American Southwest Conference, which has as many as three teams in the NCAA Division III’s top-40. Ozarks posted a 3-3 conference record, one spot away from making the post-season last year. “We now know what it takes to win the big matches,” said Wiseman. “The guys are not afraid of having a goal of trying to defeat the top teams in the division, and that is important. Last year we didn’t know how because we were not accustomed to winning. But now the culture is to win. The guys talk about winning the entire conference tournament and receiving the bid to the national tournament. I believe the talent is on campus to do that, but it will take a herculean effort. They must put in the hard work to accomplish that goal.”

ASC Honors Four For Academics Four men’s tennis players were named to the 2011-12 winter/spring American Southwest Conference All-Academic Team. To be eligible for ASC All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have lettered during the 2011-12 season, be in at least their second academic year at their institution, and carry a career gradepoint average of 3.00 or better. The team included Jeff Adams, a sophomore accounting major from Houston, Texas; Matt Arant, a senior history/literature/ sociology major from Georgetown, Texas; Tanner Holman, a senior English & radio/ tv/video major from Mesquite, Texas; and Michael Skimbo, a sophomore physical education major from Claremore, Okla. Bass Named Player of the Week University of the Ozarks freshman Bishop Bass was named the American Southwest Conference East Division Men’s Tennis Player of the Week in February. Bass, a native of Greenwood, Ark., won at No. 1 singles and doubles to fuel team wins over state rival Hendrix College and John Brown University in the Hendrix College Invitational. Bass, who dropped just one game in the singles action, teamed with Todd Turner for two wins in doubles play.

Eagles Earn ITA Academic Awards The men’s tennis team earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 academic year. Ozarks was among a handful of NCAA III schools across the country to earn academic distinction for both men’s and women’s teams. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a team grade point average of at least 3.20 for the 2011-2012 academic year. Ozarks was the only American Southwest Conference program to earn the award for its men’s and women’s teams. The men’s program posted a 3.20 team grade point average and was the only ASC school on the list. Additionally, four studentathletes earned individual accolades from the ITA. Matt Arant, Bishop Bass, Tanner Holman and Todd Turner earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a letterwinner, maintain a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) and have been enrolled at their present school at least two semesters.

Greg Weghorst Media Relations Director Assistant Commissioner

The American Southwest Conference, one of the largest intercollegiate athletic conferences in NCAA Division III, will celebrate its 17th championship season of competition with the 2012-2013 academic year. Founded in May 1996 to provide a structure for intercollegiate athletics among the member institutions, the American Southwest Conference includes former members of the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association (TIAA) and other institutions outside the Texas border. From the eight founding institutions to today’s present group of 14 college and universities, the ASC encompasses institutions sharing similar educational and athletic philosophies. ASC championships are conducted in 16 sports (8 men, 8 women). Men’s championships are offered in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and track and field. Women’s championships are offered in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. The American Southwest Conference is headquartered in Richardson, Texas.

Greg Weghorst is the Director of Media Relations of the American Southwest Conference. Weghorst was named the Director in February 2007 after serving in an interim role since August 2006. He was also promoted to the Assistant Commissioner position in 2010. Weghorst provides an oversight of the conference’s media relations operation, including compilation of league statistics and standings and NCAA reports, maintaining the ASC web site and assisting with conference issues and tournament administration. A sports writer with the Temple Daily Telegram prior to coming to the ASC, Weghorst provided coverage of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Central Texas Blackhawks/Marshals of the North American Hockey League and Temple-area high schools. He was part of the coverage team for the 2005 EV1.net Houston Bowl and the 2004 Major League Baseball AllStar Game. A native of Waco, Texas, he is a graduate of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications/ journalism.

Amy Carlton ASC Commissioner Amy Carlton is the Commissioner of the American Southwest Conference with oversight of the league’s long-term and daily administration and operations, including member and NCAA relations, compliance, scheduling and championships. Carlton was appointed Interim Commissioner July 1, 2006 after serving as ASC Assistant Commissioner/ Director of Media Relations. Carlton joined the ASC office in January 2002 after 13-1/2 years in sports information at NCAA Division I institutions, including 10 years as Assistant Director of Athletic Media Relations at the University of Michigan (19902000). She was Assistant Sports Information Director at Northern Illinois University (1989-90) and a graduate intern at both Western Illinois University (1987-88) and Michigan (198889). Carlton began her career at Division III institutions as an assistant in the news bureau at Franklin College (1981-82) and Director of News and Sports Information at Manchester College (1982-87). A native of Greencastle, Ind., Carlton is a 1981 graduate of Franklin College (Ind.), where she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
