Carl Ramsey Head Coach Carl Ramsey begins his seventh season as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of the Ozarks. Ramsey has guided four of his teams to the post-season and has coached four players on the prestigious Academic All-District Team during his tenure. Ramsey turned a struggling program into a contender in just his second year at Ozarks. Ramsey’s team qualified for the playoffs and posted the program’s first winning record in nearly a decade in year two, orchestrating a seven-game improvement from the previous season. For his accomplishments, Ramsey was voted the American Southwest Conference East Division Coach of the Year. His winning style quickly earned him the reputation as one of the premier strategists in the conference. Since his arrival at Ozarks, his teams have consistently been among the top three-point shooting teams in the conference and in NCAA III. Ramsey’s post-season prowess has been fueled on the defensive end. His teams are known for their defensive pressure, including a stifling man-to-man defense. He has had a combined 14 players earn AllConference honors and five earn All-Freshmen Team honors the past six years. 32 of his players have been on the ASC All-Academic Team during his tenure. One player was named a national Academic AllAmerican following the 2011-12 season. Another player was named the ASC East Division Preseason Player of the Year. Ramsey made the jump to his alma mater after building one of the top high school girl’s basketball programs in Arkansas. In 29 years at Lamar High School (Ark.), Ramsey posted a 660-227 (.744) overall record and led the program to eight state tournament appearances, including winning state titles in 1988 and 1991. At Lamar, he was voted the Conference Coach of the Year 10 times and was a fivetime KARV Dream Team Coach of the Year honoree. Ramsey received his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Ozarks in 1979. Ramsey and his wife, Kathy, are the parents of one son and one daughter.

Kourtni Williams Assistant Coach Kourtni Williams begins her second season as the assistant coach after helping the program to a playoff appearance in 2014-2015. Under Williams’ guidance, Ozarks was among the best shooting teams in the American Southwest Conference. Williams, a native of Fayetteville, Ark., played at NAIA Mid-America Christian University (MACU) in Oklahoma City from 2011-2013 where she earned All-America honors her senior season. Following the 2012-13 season, Williams earned NAIA AllAmerica, NCCAA All-America and All-Conference honors for MACU. Additionally, she was named to the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete Team and Sooner Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. Williams, who averaged 17.2 points per game her senior campaign, was also team captain and helped the Evangels to its first-ever national ranking. Prior to MACU, Williams played two seasons at NCAA Division II Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo. Williams has done volunteer work for the Boys and Girls Club, Yvonne Richardson Community Center, Oklahoma Food Bank and Bolivar Intermediate School. Williams graduated from MACU in 2013 with a degree in marketing.

Eagles Primed For Playoff Run The women’s basketball team enters the 20152016 season primed for another post-season run behind a talented and experienced squad under the direction of veteran head coach Carl Ramsey. Ozarks qualified for the playoffs for the fourth time under Ramsey last season, posting a 11-15 overall record and a 7-13 conference mark. Ozarks loss in the first round left a bitter taste in his team’s mouth. “Qualifying for the playoffs is one thing, but we want to finish higher up in the tournament,” said Ramsey. “And we would like to finish higher up during the regular season to receive a higher playoff seed. That is why it is so important not to look ahead in this league. We need to take it one game at a time.” Fueled by four returning starters, Ozarks’ roster includes size, speed and outside shooting ability. Ramsey expects the competition for playing time to be fierce. “Everyone has a chance to grab one of the five starting spots,” he said. “No one can become complacent. I expect it to be competitive.” Ozarks returning starters include All-Conference performers Ashley Hipps and Bryanna Moltz. Hipps, a Ashley Hipps senior point guard, was Honorable Mention All-Conference, while Moltz earned Second Team honors. “Madison is a work horse,” said Ramsey. “She Guard Madison Sherrer was named to the Conferbrings a lot to the table with her intensity. Hipps has 238 career assists, ranking her among the top-15 in program history. “Ashley is one of our captains,” he said. “I depend on her for leadership. I think she is playing her best basketball right now.” Sherrer averaged 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Sophomore forward Tyler Adams started in 17 games a year ago and averaged nearly five points and five rebounds per game.
