Coaching Staff Bryan Drotar Head Coach Bryan Drotar begins his sixth season at Ozarks after leading the Lady Eagles to a programbest 8 wins in 2008. The team also tied for the most conference wins in school history with 6. The 2008 campaign saw four players earn All-Conference honors, while eight others were named Academic All-Conference. Two made the NSCAA Scholar-Athlete All-Region Team. The 2009 team had eight players on the conference’s All-Academic Team, while a pair of players were named to the All-Conference Team. His 2009 team also tied a school record for most shutouts in a season (5). The 2010 squad produced one All-Conference player and seven who made the conference All-Academic Team. Drotar’s 2010 team also earned the conference’s Sportsmanship Award. The 2011 and 2012 squad received the prestigious NSCAA Team Academic Award for its team grade point average. Drotar, a native of Longmont, Colo., was the head women’s soccer coach at NAIA Geneva College (Pa.) from 2002-2005 where he led the team to the playoffs in 2003. Prior to his arrival, the team went 3-15-0. Drotar’s team steadily improved in each of his three seasons, with the 2003 team posting a 4-5-1 conference mark. His teams consistently played one of the toughest schedules in the region, competing against NCAA II teams on a regular basis. He served as the assistant women’s coach at NAIA Missouri Baptist College for one season, helping the team to a 12-5-1 record in 2001. Drotar was the boy’s and girl’s head coach at Longmont High School (Colo.) and led both teams to the playoffs during his tenure. Prior to Ozarks, he was the Director of Coaching with the Pittsburgh Strikers Soccer Club and is the owner of Step Ahead Soccer, a Pittsburgh-area business that provides private and group lessons. Drotar earned his bachelor’s degree in biblical studies from Colorado Christian University in 1996. He received his master’s degree in sports science from the United States Sports Academy in 2005.

He holds an “A” License from the United States Soccer Federation and has an advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Drotar and his wife, Bria, are the parents of four children, Ally, Samuel, Kara and Arden Vicky Johnson Assistant Coach Vicky Johnson begins her third year as the assistant women’s soccer coach. Johnson, a native of Hartfield, Virginia, played at Randolph College (Va.) where she finished her career as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and Randolph College all-time leader in saves and was named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Second-Team All-State squad in 2010. Johnson, who finished with 912 saves and seven career shutouts, was a three-time All-ODAC first-teamer. Johnson owns the school’s all-time record in starts and games played (71). She received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Randolph in 2011.
2013 Outlook The women’s soccer team should see vast improvement in 2013 according to Head Coach Bryan Drotar. The Lady Eagles return nearly every starter for the 2013 campaign, including the team’s top two goal scorers. A solid junior class has also emerged to lead the up-and-coming program. “I think statistically we will be better in every category,” said Drotar. “There is a general excitement and passion this season. The team feels like they are preparing to win instead of just going out on the field practicing. Tactically, we have to come together, but I do think we will be better on the attacking side and defending side this season. The junior class is beginning to develop into leaders and will be ready to go.” The defense will be led by three-year starting defender Monica Seiler. Even though Seiler is anchoring the backline, the other spots are up in the air. “Monica is probably our most consistent player on the field,” said Drotar. “We know what to expect from her every match. She understands her role and her work ethic is very high. But we have spots open in the back four. There is a little bit of uncertainty there.” Goalkeeper Mary Eoff returns after starting 17 matches last season, but will be pushed by fellow sophomore Codie Freeman. “We will be very strong in goal,” said Drotar. “Both are competing for the spot.” Ozarks finished 1-17-0 last season and scored just 11 goals, but Drotar believes his offensive attack is much improved. Sophomore forward Haley Gilliam produced a spectacular freshman season with six goals and one assist in 2012. Joining Gilliam up front could be sophomore Hannah Carter. A pair of newcomers, Frances Adams and Vicky Romero, have also displayed a knack for scoring goals. “Haley now has a year of experience,” said Drotar. “Hannah could play forward and Frances and Vicky can add goals, too. We have depth at the forward.” Junior Brooke Tralmer adds another creative option for the Lady Eagles. “We are in the process of moving Brooke from center back to a center mid,” said Drotar. “She will have a lot more freedom to exercise her gifts as a player.”
Drotar believes a competitive spirit among the players has increased the team’s energy and new perspective this season. “The competition is high for spots,” said Drotar. “There is a whole new level of energy on the team. The team’s positive attitude has been contagious.” Drotar also noted that his team has a good mix of veterans and younger players. “We have been really young the past two seasons, but this year the team is a good mix,” he said. “We have four new players that will challenge for playing time on the field. We need to decide who is in the backline. And, tactically we need to straighten out our defense. That will be key for us.”

American Southwest Conference The American Southwest Conference, one of the largest intercollegiate athletic conferences in NCAA Division III, is in its second decade of providing quality athletic experiences for its student-athletes, coaches and administrators. Founded in May 1996 to provide a structure for intercollegiate athletics among member institutions, the American Southwest Conference includes former members of the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association (TIAA) and other institutions from outside the Texas borders. From the eight founding institutions to today’s present group of 12 college and universities, the ASC encompasses institutions sharing similar educational and athletic philosophies. The roster of American Southwest Conference members includes Concordia University Texas, East Texas Baptist University, Hardin-Simmons University, Howard Payne University, LeTourneau University, Louisiana College, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Mississippi College, University of the Ozarks, Sul Ross State University, University of Texas at Dallas and University of Texas at Tyler. ASC championships are conducted in 16 sports (8 men, 8 women). Men’s championships are offered in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and track and field. Women’s championships are offered in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. University of the Ozarks UNIVERSITY OF THE OZARKS has approached education with an unyielding search for truth. That search led our founders to establish the first co-educational college west of the Mississippi. It set the stage for the first Arkansas woman to receive a college degree. And because truth often defies convention, ours was the first historically white college in the state to admit AfricanAmericans. Every day, our history inspires Ozarks students to discover their own individual truths.
